Sony Announces $399, 80GB PLAYSTATION 3 Bundle

During the E3 Media & Business Summit today, Sony announced that it is returning back the 80GB PS3 to the market in September, but this time with a new price of US $399.99. This move is probably dictated by the Xbox 360 price cut which became official two days ago. The 80GB "Core Pack" PLAYSTATION 3 as it will be called will offer all of the features and functionality of the currently selling 40GB model, but with double the storage.

Wile EI still recommend the 60GB with hardware support. That's why I didn't mention the 80GB.
That is only if you can find one...plus the 80gb should be good enough more pretty much all backwards compatibility. Sony has a nice reference site to see how well the game plays. www.us.playstation.com/Support/CompatibleStatus . If all the games you want to play is ok with the 80gb, then there is no point in finding the 60gb.

newtekie1All this different PS3 bundles with different size hard drive? Right now there is only 1 version of the PS3 being sold, when this is released there will be 2.
No, when this console is released there will still be 1 PS3 console. This is a replacement SKU, not a new model.

This is what my Nephew was telling me about yesterday. I was like, they already have this and it offers software emulation, not true hardware like my ps3 does. No biggy, now they have the 80gb and 40gb (with the 40gb soon to be discontinued???)

You could say disconintued. It's actually being replaced. The 80GB has the same SKU as the 40GB, they are giving you 40 more GBs for the same price.
