Fallout 3 Available October 28

Bethesda Softworks, a ZeniMax Media company, announced today that its highly anticipated title, Fallout 3, will be available on store shelves and online in North America on October 28, 2008 and in Europe on October 31, 2008. Developed at Bethesda Game Studios - creators of the 2006 Game of the Year, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion - Fallout 3 is slated for release on the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, PLAYSTATION 3 computer entertainment system, and Games for Windows.

"We are very excited to let gamers get their hands on Fallout 3, the latest chapter in this beloved and highly acclaimed franchise," said Vlatko Andonov, president of Bethesda Softworks. "To meet the huge demand for this title by our fans worldwide, we are planning one of the biggest launches of any game released this year."

Fallout 3 features one of the most realized game worlds ever created. Set more than 200 years following a nuclear war, you can create any kind of character you want and explore the open wastes of Washington, D.C. however you choose. Every minute is a fight for survival as you encounter Super Mutants, Ghouls, Raiders, and other dangers of the Wasteland.

Hailed as one of the most anticipated games for 2008, Fallout 3 has already won numerous awards including Best of Show from the official Game Critics Awards at E3 2008, a selection voted on by an independent group of journalists from 36 leading North American media outlets that cover the videogame industry.

Fallout 3 has not yet been rated by the ESRB. For more information on Fallout 3, visit fallout.bethsoft.com

I may have to go pick that up. Any idea on the companies making it (info about them, good, bad, etc)? I can't remember who made the first two off the top of my head.

Bethesda is fantastic. They don't make many games, but the ones they release are extremely well done, almost always among the best of the year (or few years for that matter). I believe they made the first two as well, although I may be wrong on that.

Thanks. For some reason I thought the title had been sold just before or a little after fallout tactics. Wich I still like some of the aspects of. Especially multiplayer, lol.

Looks like that is what happened, I was wrong. Interplay did the first 2 but went bankrupt when beginning fallout 3. Bethesda picked it up, and began working on it after Oblivion. Said they are going to try to keep it close to the first 2. Wiki: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fallout_3

That makes me happy. I liked how they were done.
Just wish Tactics had the freedom to play around, lol.

Interplay published it and Black Isle Studios developed the first two I believe. A lot of people were worried actually when Bethesda took over the game because they thought it was going to turn into Oblivion with guns, hookers and drugs. I have faith it'll be good though.

I wish they would release the system requirements for the game, so at least we know how it would play on current hardware.

If I have to go Quad, SLI/CF, 8GB DDR3, and Vista, then I might just get a PS3 then. :(

I have been looking forward to this game for waaaay too long now...

You never need a quad for games, nor do you ever need 2 video cards, nor would you need ddr3, nor is it dx10 I don't think. Your system in your specs over there probably won't max it out, but you should be able to play it. Optimal max may require more juice from your video card.

Are you referring to my 8800GS or the old 7900GS (that I just realised I never updated)?

Seeing as though this game is strictly single player, we can assume that AI will be working overtime; I think if bethesda was smart they will code heavily for multi cpu systems like Supreme Commander.

I really hope that my XP system will be able to play it.

I'm considering upgrading my 9600GT to a 280, also buying a new case. I'm a little bored of this acrylic case I'm using now, also the heat a 280 would be putting out should be vented better. I'm happy with the rest of my hardware though. I don't think a 9600GT will be enough to play FO3 on higher settings since my native resolution is 1920x1080.

Yeah no I was referring to the 7900gs. The 8800gs should do it a lot better. Indeed it may be multi-threaded well, and a quad may help, still a game like supreme commander requires far more calculations at any given time for the cpu than a fps though, so I would be very surprised if it was essential. Your proc oc'd should suffice I would think, but yeah we should be getting the specs pretty soon I would imagine.

Does anyone know if this is dx10, or is this still dx9?

Thats what Fallout is all about. i played the first 3 games to death, i'm hoping this one would be as good.

Bethesda doesnt always make superb games though. Obvious hits: Oblivion, obvious misses: Star Trek Legacy.

Actually Star Trek Legacy was a pretty good game for the Xbox, the controls were great, game was great, no issues. The PC version was god awful though, just an absolutely terrible port. Yes it's their fault, so you're right Bethesda isn't flawless, but I have confidence all the versions of Fallout 3 will be high quality. Maybe they just got lazy and didn't care about the smaller trekie base.

Yea, i was referring to the PC version, i dont own an Xbox so i cant speak for how that version of the game was. I just hope they dont get lazy again and dont piss off the not so large group of Fallout fans.

The hype for this game is extending beyond the original fallout fanbase. I myself never played the first 2, just started playing the 2nd one actually, but everything about this game has gotten me excited to play it, even while being unversed in the fallout legacy. I don't think this will be a lazy release, I think they know the expectations and are going to try to deliver a fully polished game. Their major releases (namely elder scrolls) are usually top-notch, although not perfect, have frequently only been limited by technology not matching their ambition. I'm hoping anyway........

lol, this just got me thinking how back in 98 a buddy of mine told me of this game called Fallout. I wasnt really into RPGs then but after playing for a bit i was hooked for life. So i know how you feel

BTW, check out No Mutants Allowed for the mods, patches for all 3 games:
