RivaTuner Creator Protests Anti-Russian Nazism, Bans NvNews Linkage
Alexey Nicolaychuk, popularly known by the computer enthusiast community as "Unwinder", creator of RivaTuner graphics card tweaking utility, lodged a strong protest against community members of NvNews for allegedly using slurs against his national identity. Community members of NvNews will not be able to post links to download RivaTuner as they are explicitly blocked by the author. Not that they can't get the software some way or another, but that it is more of a retaliation by Unwinder to contents of this thread, which portrays mockery against Russia and the recent Russian-Georgian conflict. The most recent license-agreement of RivaTuner now shows an added clause:
While the forum thread that had those slurs was closed rather quickly by the forum staff at the post count of 6, ironically, the same staff didn't find it necessary to delete those comments or the thread as a whole, or the thread that followed Unwinder's actions on NvNews forums that had posts of retaliatory nature with extreme personal attacks towards Unwinder. It made 198 replies without moderation of any sort. At least it didn't seem like the forum staff was doing its job, but since it claims to be a "fansite", they may have variable thresholds to trigger moderation. Some members even protested that Unwinder was making "Anti Free Speach [sic] remarks". Truly, the Internet is serious business.
New license agreement explicitly restricts publishing any links to RivaTuner on www.nvnews.net homepage or in www.nvnews.net discussion forums. Russian software can not co-exist with the community tolerating anti-Russian nazism.

I dont think hindering distribution was top on his list of priorities.
its not his fault russia and georgia are at war is it?
as far as im concerned heres a thanks for giving us this useful amazing program
Freedom of expression is one thing and is acceptable, prejudice is another and may not be tolerade.
It's the same thing IF I say "America is a dumb country for Bush election twice" ( I mean, it's just an exemple, I don't have any oppinion about americans presidents, it's America duty to decide the best one, not mine).... youy see... some may like Bush others may not.... but to make this kid of statment about American people is WRONG and is just prejudice....
So, don't blame the guy of getting offended by this kind of thing..
I don't care who made it, It's a good tool.
Bucnh of kids, I mean they are just racilist.
Just because someone comes from Germany it doesn't mean he's a Nazi.
Some people just like to start trouble on the internet because they are a long distance away from the other person they are insultng.
Chances are very slim of someone tracking the person down to thier house and beating them up.
So this is Alexey's way of getting back at them.
Who knows, there may never ever be another RivaTuner update ever again for teh people who use it.
Has any attempt been made to solve this amicably, i.e. communicating with NvNews administrators and moderators? or has he just taken a stand because he can't handle comments from a few ignorant individuals?
I'm not entirely convinced that this license agreement will work to benefit him, other than bringing out the real ugly people that will suddenly see him as a target.
I sincerely hope that this is not the case though.
If he got his account locked due to fairly expressed discontent, then there is definitely something very wrong with how they moderate over there.
Unwinder refuses to accept donations :slap:me. ... just assumed that you could do it.
