Microsoft Scraps Windows 7 Beta 1 Download Cap
Microsoft's newest operating system, Windows 7, though in an unreleased beta stage, has been grabbing a lot of attention lately. After the beta went online last week, Microsoft's servers seem to have been bombarded with hits. At least this seems to have worked in building up hype around Windows 7. In the latest move, Microsoft scrapped the official limit it set to give away "only" 2.5 million keys to be able to install and use the OS.
Microsoft will give away as many copies of the OS as it can, till the 24th of January. Till the 24th, people will have access to the download as well as procurement of the legal Windows 7 Beta 1 key.

Reading the title I only saw "Microsoft scraps Windows 7."
I was going to be confused.
Ho and my isp block the mail from microsoft (why?)
If anyone's already got your key, but you're still having the 32-bit download crap out on your, try the Java downloader link: wb.dlservice.microsoft.com/download/6/3/3/633118BD-6C3D-45A4-B985-F0FDFFE1B021/EN/7000.0.081212-1400_client_en-us_Ultimate-GB1CULFRE_EN_DVD.iso
You'll have to copy and paste it into a new window, don't just click on the link. Should work every time.

Well? Is it actually a perfectly use-able OS that I can have on for months, like Vista 64-bit SP1, or just some side-show intended to make me want to buy Windows 7 when it actually comes out retail? Of course, if it's anything like Vista, even the retail release will be buggy and unstable, so this beta should be an absolute disaster... right?!

Coincidence?
Other than that, it seems pretty stable, and works great with 512MB of RAM in a default configuration (something Vista really, really struggled with). That being said, there's some painful reminders here and there that this isn't really a new OS, and is really just a tweaked Vista... :shadedshu
Why does everyone have to slam MS, I think they were pretty open in letting more people try it and try to get it out. They didn't have to spend the time and money. They very well could have just shut the door and said to bad, sucks to be you.
It is great to have 2.5 mil beta testers.
By the way, my keys are completely different and work in 86 or 64 bit;)
I hope Windows 7 never has fate but is in the Ranks of Greatness
Aka Windows 98SE, 2000, XP
