iBUYPOWER Launches Chimera Gaming System

iBUYPOWER, one of the largest gaming system manufacturers in the world, is excited to announce the Chimera Gaming System which is built in the company's first advanced function signature case. The Chimera systems combine a glossy fiery exterior with clear side paneling and optional internal lighting to give it the unique look gamers crave. Its three 120mm cooling fans, Asetek liquid cooling solution, and front panel thermal display keep the Chimera's flames at bay, and the system running cool during even the most intense battles.

iBUYPOWER is offering both an Intel Core i7 based system (Chimera X58) and an AMD configuration featuring the AM3 + Phenom II platform (Chimera AM3). The Chimera systems both support multi-GPU solutions from both ATI and NVIDIA to deliver an unparalleled visual experience.

"We really wanted to make a splash with our first iBUYPOWER signature case," said Darren Su, Vice President of iBUYPOWER. "The Chimera gaming system comes fully loaded inside and out with an aggressive design and innovative technology."

The Chimera Gaming Systems are built with finest components from respected brands like ASUS, EVGA, and Corsair. iBUYPOWER also offers customers the option of several gaming enhancement add-ons like the Killer NIC gaming network card or Creative Labs SoundBlaster X-Fi Sound Card and advanced speaker system. iBUYPOWER also includes a free copy of Halo 2 or Tom Clancy's H.A.W.X with each Chimera Gaming System.

The Chimera Systems start at just $999 MSRP and is available now at iBUYPOWER.com. iBUYPOWER systems come standard with 1 year limited warranty and lifetime technical support.

I never liked cases with front doors. Especially when they're made of plastic. Also a bit tacking looking for my taste

Now if the flames where blue-ish/white, then it would be a whole other story. I still won't buy it, but I'd find it much more appealing.

Case is a bit too flashy for my taste, Intel build looks ok. I would still rather build a custom PC myself rather than buy one prebuilt.

I like it, but I think red lights wouldn't look so great as it would be hard to tell the side panel from the paint, white lights would look better I think.

Not only is it a gigabyte board, but it's a PII 910? Why not something higher end?

Thats the baseline machine. Just like Chevy is advertising the new Camaro at 23k, thats a starting price and lures them in. I checked out the site and you can upgrade to the 955 for $80. And then add a good board like the GD70 for $60, and even a 1x or 2x 285, 1x or 2x 295, 1x or 2x 4890, or 1x or 2x 4870x2 are availible, just matters how much you want to crush your pocketbook.

Funny thing is they mention watercooling and point to it on the pictures, got me curious, a 120mm rad is not going to be worth it, turns out the low end system doesn't come with the water cooler even though they mentioned the 910 they didn't mention that the low end comes with a basic AMD HS/fan. Their WC kit is $63 more, probably garbage, but they have a nice collection of good HS's as upgrade options.

The final price for a bitching tower of: PII 955, 4GB DDR3 1600, 2x 4890, MSI GD70, Xigmatek Dark Knight 120mm, 500GB HDD, Corsair 850TX comes out to $1658

Now a price comparison right off newegg...

PII 955, 4GB DDR3 1600, 2x 4890, MSI GD70, Xigmatek Dark Knight 120mm, 500GB HDD, Corsair 850TX, and HAF 932 comes out to $1373 before shipping and without any copy of windows. I did select a nice 32MB cache 500GB, the ram was a lower G.skill set (reliable but cheap). So really their prices aren't too bad and you get a case that will stand out and you have to do no work on it.

Meh... I'd rather build something myself, but I'm sure most of TPU would as well. I guess it's a nice computer for a gamer who doesn't know or care to know how to build computers. It's actually got a decent price.

I just built a computer with identical specs on both Ibuypower and Newegg (newegg has air and IBP has water) with the same shipping method and IBP was cheaper. :S
