The AMD Athlon 550 was a desktop processor with 1 core, launched in November 1999. It is part of the Athlon Model 2 lineup, using the Pluto architecture with Slot A. Athlon 550 has 512 KB of L2 cache and operates at 550 MHz. AMD is making the Athlon 550 on a 180 nm production node using 22 million transistors. The multiplier is locked on Athlon 550, which limits its overclocking potential.
With a TDP of 28 W, the Athlon 550 consumes only little energy. The highest officially supported memory speed is 100 MT/s, but with overclocking (and the right memory modules) you can go even higher. Actual memory technology support depends on the chosen motherboard, because the memory controller is located on the motherboard (not in the processor). For communication with other components in the system, Athlon 550 uses a PCI-Express N/A connection. This processor does not have integrated graphics, you will need a separate graphics card. A lot of games will not work on this processor, because they require the SSE instruction set, which is not supported.
