The Intel Atom x7-E3950 is a mobile processor with 4 cores, launched in August 2014. It is part of the Atom x7 lineup, using the Apollo Lake architecture with BGA 1296. Atom x7-E3950 has 2 MB of L2 cache and operates at 1600 MHz by default, but can boost up to 2000 MHz, depending on the workload. Intel is building the Atom x7-E3950 on a 14 nm production process, the transistor count is unknown. The multiplier is locked on Atom x7-E3950, which limits its overclocking capabilities.
With a TDP of 12 W, the Atom x7-E3950 consumes very little energy. Intel's processor supports DDR3 memory with a dual-channel interface. The highest officially supported memory speed is 1866 MT/s, but with overclocking (and the right memory modules) you can go even higher. For communication with other components in the machine, Atom x7-E3950 uses a PCI-Express Gen 2 connection. This processor features the HD Graphics 505 integrated graphics solution.
Hardware virtualization is available on the Atom x7-E3950, which greatly improves virtual machine performance. Additionally, IOMMU virtualization (PCI passthrough) is supported, so that guest virtual machines may directly use host hardware.
