What's your latest tech purchase?

oh, well, same recommendation as for @P4-630 get a good case for it! preferably something from UAG like a Monarch or a Pathfinder, can even get a Magsafe compatible one like the Monarch Pro and use Apple magsafe accessories (or compatibles )
My personal choice is Spigen. Always did good for my Note10, still doing good for my S23U.

Strange new tech that nobody wants, and probably nobody should want because it's pointless. So naturally, I wanted it. :D

No more upgrades this year. Seriously this time.
The only question now is to you pop it in or strap it on? (to the motherboard that is, get your minds out of the gutter people!)

Speaking of Amazon Prime Day, I just finished setting up the LG 34GP63A wide screen 1440 monitor I bought for 249.99$ +tax. It was supposed to be delivered in the early afternoon but wound up at 8:00 PM Thursday night.

It is a big change from the Samsung CRG5 24" 1080P monitor that I had, and well worth it.

I'd rather have more of a 34" UWQHD
Ultrawides are an extremely niche concept that won't stick around for long, they're reject panels from 16:9 TV's, with the dead pixels cut off

you can make one 4K display or four 1080p displays from the same stretch of panel off the assembly line (The joys of working in a textiles factory years ago, i know how the basics work for this stuff) - or if you've got a row of dead pixels you can cut an in between size and get 2 or 3 ultrawides out of what could have been four 4K displays
It also lets them use older HDMI and DP ports they get cheaper, and use the lower bandwidth to run higher refresh rates

Seeing how they're really flawed for gameplay too with so few games actually supporting them properly (no, zooming in and giving you less vertical is not the same as giving you more horizontal) it's not something anyones going to care about other than people who've fallen for marketing

Eesh of course i reply to that, and the next page slaps it below someone elses ultrawide. Hating the tech doesn't mean i intended to diss your purchase, @Lost_Troll

3x 2TB WD SN850X $90 with $12 in honey points each
Samsung S23 Ultra
2x Polk Audio Monitor XT90
couple cheap Abode security cams

Trying to get back into gaming, but super busy with work

It's the slow dumb charging and requirement of being in pairs thats the issue - use a device that runs off 3 batteries for example, and you're screwed, a minimum of two batteries will end up being charged with different starting voltages, so one will get a lot more wear and tear

And with the whole 10-15 hour trickle charge thing, it's guaranteed that some will be overcharged
That makes sense. Luckily, both my GameBoy Advance and the house thermostat use two batteries, so I can charge and discharge them in pairs. I also have a few wireless mice that use a single AA battery, but I use non-rechargable ones for those, as they last for a very long time anyway.

yeah welcome to getting nothing extra in the box

I wish Samsung would have just kept the TPU case like other asian manufacturer just to keep the phone safe if the user wanted to use it I would until I got something better.

Is Samsung Pay an option for your bank?

I am not sure I ever come across any Samsung Pay support in my country, I bet if I was in south korea it would be huge

The wierdest part is my bank cannot even see I try to add the card and I get error OR-TAPSH-08.

It's unfortunate Samsung wasn't running a promo. I got mine on the Victoria Day promo (the one for the long weekend that didn't end for like 2 months lmao) for $879cad 256GB S23 with a free color matched case. The silicone case and the grip case are the same except the grip case has the cutouts to facilitate the strap system. The fitment is really good, these cases aren't low quality trash like the one Xiaomi bundles with its Pocos. But knowing that stuff like my current case exists on Amazon for $10, I probably wouldn't pay 3x the money for comparable quality.

I have alread tried this and I choose email, I am not sure if I could have taken the chat :wtf:

ahhh, Spigen ... well for me, after UAG anything else look cheaply build and overpriced, for example the Spigen Optic is nice but at 42~chf it look too flimsy to me. specially when Nilkin do a similar case for 27chf

the Monarch was 59chf, hilariously due to the construction (which include carbon, leather or Kevlar alongside rubber surrounding, polycarbonate shearplate and an alloy metal plate ) it doesn't feel too overpriced being 18chf more than the Spigen Optic

could argue : bulky... but with a compact like the S23, it does not really feel like that (imho mostly )

luckily the S23 GG Victus make it though as hell ... i dropped my S23 once, before getting my Monarch zero issues, plus the aluminum side are also though and it has quite an excellent "hold in hand"

exactly ...

also yeah ... UAG is pricey but they are the only that warrant the price for me ... as i mentioned above

I put on a tg screen protector though, PRONTO. Victus scratch resistance is such garbage.

yeah weak to scratch strong to impact indeed (although no scratch on mine so far :D and i carried it with my key in the same pocket sometime  )

I have already ordered tempered glass and a case of aliexpress sadly it's gonna take sometime.

I gonna see how much the official PanzerGlass is gonna cost at work usually we can get it at a really good price compared to the local stores that sells them for up to £34-57/€40-67 which is insane because a third tempered glass protection for a fraction of the price have served me with no issues on all my smartphones.

Argh, hope your predictions are wrong :/
I'm an UWQHD user for many years, and i won't go back to a "normal" screen ...

But you are right, it's not very popular, and there are not many choices in shop ...
Hope my montor will last ...

I do have to agree with both KrazyT, when I was pulling the display out of the box, I was thinking how big it was and that I was probably going to be sending it back. But once I started using it, the more I liked it, especially working with spreadsheets or two programs side by side.

Same here, switched to a 21:9 Ultrawide in 2019 and I aint going back for 'normal' monitors anytime soon if possible.
And no there wasn't marketing involved in my case, my bro bought one before me and I checked it there and liked it so I bought one for myself.

My only issue is that if I wanted to step up my res then I would have to opt for a 3440x1440 monitor and thats fairly harder to drive than my 2560x1080 one and I'm not exactly in the market for higher end GPUs every few years just to play new more demanding games at that res with decent in game settings.

I had a case like this, Sleeping Dogs was struggling in 3440x1440 ... well, my old system was in cause :)
I've switched the resolution to 2560x1080, and it was allright !

I'm not at the point where I need to consider a monitor upgrade. But if I was, I'd rather have a true double-wide 5120x1440 than a standard 4K.

(Actually, the best answer would be 5120x1600; but 16:10 appears to have disappeared forever, which makes me a sad panda.)

Time for some new earbuds - Anker Liberty 4 NC

Bought a second hand inverter, it too exploded.

Considering it runs at 11.7v to 15.5v, this seems within its hapy range

I can find nothing i'm doing wrong, using provided cables (screw in types), correct voltages etc. But i'm having the shittest luck.

The transformer? screwed to the heatsink cracked down the middle, and some resistors appear to have been assimilated by the borg

It's all about the use case for the monitor - they can be quite handy for work use, with 2D content (Although personally i'd just go 2x 16:9 displays)
For example, 99% of Esports titles and RTS games don't support ultra wide displays

I play a lot of older games, like recently i converted borderlands 1/2/3/Pre-sequel to vulkan to replay them, and they dont support the resolutions.
Running any other res than native would disable Gsync (needs to be native res and max refresh to work) so i'd never want to play these older titles if i owned an ultrawide because it'd work so poorly.

A decent amount of singleplayer games do support them, ironically console games seem to do it fairly well despite having issues running above 60FPS (elden ring comes to mind)

And hide your PC behind the monitors?.. Not doing that... :D
