I bought this motherboard today looked it up thought it was a good board .But sad to say nothing took the Heat sink off and the cpu out and saw there are bent pins there. :(If the heatsink was not on there i would not have bought it, i take a magna fine glass to check motherboards f i buy.It would be i good board if it had worked:(It is ABIT AA8
The Abit AA8 is a high-performance motherboard based on the Intel 925X chipset, designed for Intel LGA 775 processors. Here are some key features and specifications:
I am really gutted as it is the second board i have got this week ,the first one i got free but he did advertise it for £5 but then said i could have it for free.He must have known it was the pins that were causing the Ram and USB problem :(Ironically this one cost £5 i did get a working ide Dvd drive and a stick of CORSAIR XMS pro series DDR2 Ram 512mb.The mouse and keyboard lighted up and the yellow light on the right hand side.could it be more than bent pins on the CPU socket? And what is the best tool to straighten pins?I have a third board i could test the tool on it is another Abit board.:(

It came with a Pentium 4 3.6 and one of thous old school heat sinks with the bras on the bottom,if i had known it had bent pins i would have never bought it. :(
I am learning i bought a Sony Vio last month with Rambus Ram last month for £1 at a boot fair.:)I got two 2x 256 of the ram on eBay they were dual ones but unfortunately they did not work. i tried every which way to try and get them to work but no dice.:(

It is a Pentium 4 here is a photo of it.

That's an early Pentium 4 Prescott before they changing to 3 digits numbering in 2004 I think (yours was 2003), which equivalent to Pentium 4 560 on their database.

I'm thinking of building ultimate Windows 7 gaming PC. What would the hardware be?
You can choose anything Intel upto socket 2066. Socket 2011 x99 would be a sweet spot right now. CPU's boards and RAM are all at very reasonable pricing. Ryzen support is there, but can be a bit hit & miss. The best RTX card you can get would be a 2000 series. I'm not sure about Radeon lineup cards.

Forgot about LGA2066 system, it seems like an interesting build. But there's plenty of LGA2011 going cheaply around so might be a better build throughout, because of HEDT platform doing SLI/Crossfire would be a treat!

Go for a Xeon CPU, E5-2667V3 or V4 are the best value for money ATM. An 8core will serve anything that will run on Win7. With the Quad channel RAM, DDR4 2666 would be more than fast enough for any needs. Also, an RTX2070 is a total sweetspot GPU for Win7. However, a GTX1070/ti would be a good shout too!

Yes it is a early one just a shame that there are bent pins on there. :(

Blue-skinned space elves...smells like late 2000s all right. :p

Wasn't 8600GT one of the cards that suffered from some chip packaging problem? My own 8600M GT died of that after throwing screenfuls of artifacts. Did not last through even 4 years of use. A shame as the performance was actually pretty great compared to older cards with non-unified shaders.

I'm broke af and bored so I wanted to revive this old PC I bought along with a couple of CRT. It was a Pentium 4 1.5GHz, on a Matsonic MS9138D+ V1.4, also known elsewhere as ECS P4VMM2 V1.3. It was a generic 'clone PC' back in early 2000 with generic '300W PSU' that still got AT plug on it. It got 56k PCI modem too :D

IMG20240712142322.jpg

As you can see from above and below picture, there is a red sponge behind the mobo. Unknown to me why local PC shops decided to put the sponge that comes with the mobo to put it there? I see a lot of PC this era comes with this, I assume to prevent short with case? Idk and I think its weird so I removed it

IMG20240712143312.jpg

The harddisk was shot, clicking like crazy and BIOS unable to detect it. It was a Maxtor Fireball 3 20GB ATA133. Maxtor is known for premature death and bad reputation of the harddisk, before Segate bough them and become their problem too . Warranty sticker suggest this was purchased in 3rd week of December 2001.

IMG20240712144107.jpg

I wanted to put SATA harddisk on it, I have the PATA to SATA adapter but I forgot the old PSU don't have SATA power connector. I delve into my boxes to look for IDE drive and I found 80GB Seagate PATA drive. This was originally found on my other Pentium 4 LGA775 machine which I thought it was dead, but actually the harddisk jumper is configured wrong (someone put it to limit to 32GB). When I put it to Master and plug it to the system, BIOS detect them. Of course because of different system it can't boot into Windows (it have XP in it) so now I'm downloading 98SE, or should I try the *gasp* ME? Hopefully everything went well. For now I'm gonna utilize the onboard graphics and see how it cope, I'm sure VIA S3 ProSavage8 could handle older titles. It got universal AGP on it, I will find my 3DFX Voodoo Banshee to see whether it still ok or not.

The pair in the first picture is ECC RAM and your single stick is non-ECC so they are not compatible to mix with each other. :(

I suppose its just as well as my Rams don,t work when in slots 1 and 2 they only work in 1 and 3. o_O Why would that be?o_O

I just got this i was keeping my fingers crossed that it worked .I see the problem see photo 2199 it is thous caps they just put it in a normal envelope and of course thous caps are going to get damaged. The one i got off Amazon the caps are only half the size ,plus the fact the molex cable goes in easy one the one that does not work you have to really push it in.

NFHK EP-014 SATA Disk to IDE/PATA 40Pin Motherboard Converter Adapter PCBA for Desktop & 2.5 3.5 inch Hard Disk Drive.I am going to tell Phil this is the one to get,he gave up on them. It does not come with a jumper for master and Slave but shows as Master.I got 3dmark 2000 on there but it is XP. 3DMARK2000 result with the Asus v7100

5363 3dmarks

That's how they are supposed to work in your motherboard. RDRAM has specific requirements about slots. Your board requires that you use slots 1 & 3 for a pair. Other boards may use slots 1 & 2, but no other combo will work there either.

Palomino chip - Nice.
Had one of those but it wound up with a burnt spot so it's dead.

No I wasn't OC'ing it, the thing just went bad and that was the end of it.

When the computer hangs like that, it is usually a problem with RAM or some of the buffer on CPU or some other stuff in communication like North bridge or South bridge.

Maybe it would be good to run the RAM check with some DOS based bootable CD / USB? MEMtest is surely suggested.
