At 4K 60 I prefer my 5900X for most of my games. I don't need 16 cores at all, but I sure would like the slight clock bump, and the extra core count comes in handy for WCG.
Officially 5900X and 5950X have 100MHz (2%) speed difference. Besides the extra 4/8 cores/threads the 5950X has nothing realistic to offer for ST and games. Especially in 1440p/4K.
Mostly the FPS difference will be 1-3% and in a few best cases like 5-10%.

Right, doesn't 5050Mhz sound better than 4950MHz though? :p

And then you have PBO.. 5250MHz sounds better than 5150MHz

The real elephant on my face is the fact that I can get a newer model for pretty much the same money.. but I would need another high end board, new high end ram.. have everything else though :D

How about 5900XT? Funny enough, 5950X is cheaper at least here in Finland. 320EUR including postage and VAT at cheapest.

I feel like as much money as you have to blow, and as bored as you are, at this point you should just sell the 5800x3d, 5900x, and mobo/ram as a combo, and get a 9800x3d rig.

Nah, this is my new X58 rig, except this one will stay with me.

Edit:

I took that AM4 CPU out of my cart last night, right now I have a 9950X in it.

As an aside City Skylines 2 will use every single CPU core once the population is high enough. There you will see the difference.I would describe the 5900X as butter smooth and the 5950x as super snappy.

That is a great price for a 5950X.

I did put thought into the X3D angle.. but I have to be real with myself. I run at my TV's native res of 3840x2160, 60Hz. So I don't need to chase over 150. I know they game better, but its not like the X counter parts suck.. and save a few bucks in the process.. because you know X3D does not magically lower prices :D

But we shall see.. right now there are no X3D parts that interest me on Amazon, so there is that too.

5700X3D...220€
5900X........230€
5950Χ........325€

At least who ever has AM4 and upgrades from 2000/3000series the 5700X3D/5900X options are very compelling.

The XT is more expensive here too. 100MHz less and pretty much the same temps.. I dunno.

Maybe if it ran cooler, used less power.. you know better cores than yeah maybe.. but nope.

Could be newer chips with better overclockability, but at least I wouldn't care a bit as I don't manually OC Ryzens. :D

I had a quick look at HWBOT and there was none that I saw in the 20 seconds that I looked, which is what got me started down this path to begin with lol..

You don’t really need to manual OC. That’s dead for me and for most users anyway.
At least In theory a better chip can sustain higher speed within the same power envelope. Better undervolt (-CO) and so…
Even so the level of higher pricing can’t be justified in my book. I don’t expect 1:1 ratio for perf/price metrics as the price climbs, but at some point it’s becoming absurd.

So the latest CPU-Z is bluescreening on my Ryzen 9950X + 24H2. Apparently affects some 7xxx board/cpu combos as well. I'm sure it will be fixed, but until then downgrading to 2.10 works fine.

Honestly, I thought PBO was kind of a waste with my 3600XT. I just ran a static clock and voltage.

I think it works better with Zen 3 and up. But that is JMO of course :)

It depends. It does absolutely nothing on the 7800X3D that runs below all limits basically all the time. It also does nothing on any other Zen 4 if you're on a thermal limit. It only works if you're hitting a power wall.

Still broke though lol..

Got a new job, but couldnt start till I got glasses.

Glasses dont fit under respirator so company paying to have lenses made for it.

On employment insurance from my last job, have 2 checks stuck in limbo thanks to our country wide postal strike.

December is a bust for this guy.

It depends. It does absolutely nothing on the 7800X3D that runs on power limit basically all the time.

In that regard, your CPU is just like mine, can only use PBO to undervolt the curve, and lower your power limits if you fancy that sort of thing on these older X3D..

I thought PBO was kind of a waste with my 3600XT.
I'm not a fan of PBO in general. Too much voltage being dumped into the package. I usually do 103 or 104(105 if it'll stay stable) on the bclk, change the multi a few notches and call it good.

On employment insurance from my last job, have 2 checks stuck in limbo thanks to our country wide postal strike.

December is a bust for this guy.
Damn.. Here's to good things coming your way! :toast:

(I edited my post - there's no limit at all) :ohwell:

Yep, static 4.8 GHz all-core no matter what I do. No biggie, I'm not great with overclocking, and it's a great CPU anyway. :)

Edit: Speaking of, I think I've got to repaste soon. I noticed it reached its thermal limit crunching WCG the other day which it never did before. It always ran at 83-84 C max. It hasn't even been a year. Is MX-4 so bad with pump-out?

Different jobs load the processor differently. I don't crunch on my Ryzen (which runs my game servers), and limit my i7s via power rather than temp. There can be a nearly 10C difference at the same power draw depending on what they're chewing on. That doesn't preclude a TIM issue, of course.

Fair point. I'll try with Einstein@Home to see if it settles back to earlier temps. This was the first time I got decent work on WCG.

Hey guys, I really need some help with 2D artifacting on my iGPU (5800H). This is a copy of the thread here.
@eidairaman1 pointed out to me I should join the Zen garden

I have an interesting issue on my laptop. When using any 2D apps, even Windows Settings etc., I get these weird artifacts that disappear as soon as I move my mouse over them:

I already tried updating both GPU drivers (integrated AMD and discrete Nvidia), but the issue still persists. Could the default 2D clocks be too high?
Thanks!

Edit: There's no artifacts whatsoever when using 3D applications, with integrated or discrete GPU
