Tested with Sabertooth x58 using a XEON 5690 with 48 GByte main memory.
The NVMe drive was a Samsung 970 Evo Plus (2 TB, latest firmware).
This is quite good, but I observe extremely long boot up times:
- With a short '_' cursor blinking top left from last BIOS message to occurance of Windows 11 boot logo: ~ 30 s.
- From begin of the Windows 11 boot logo showing until white circle indicating bootup: 20 s
- The rest (some 10 s) can be attributed to the normal Windows boot process.
Since all other drives including a Samsung SATA SSD 840 Pro (256 GByte) are booting much faster than
the NVMe Samsung drive, I suspect either the BIOS mod or a flaky Samsung firmware being the culprit.
Thank you for the good work!

i had the same problem with the 980 Pro 2TB, where i didnt have any with same model 1TB.
someone else is having 1 minute boot time with a 990 2TB

so i guess it s the 2TB that is the issue. it s not a big deal when the computer is 24/7, i guess it must be annoying if you turn on the computer 10 times a day.

Tell me you are using bios modded ver. for your mobo from the first post ?
Samsung 970 Evo plus is know it for slow boot and came in multiple variants according with techPowerUp ssd database.
What is your device id ?
You can try other way than the bios from the first post which is done with Samsung ssd 950 pro OpRom.
If you want to use another Option Rom from VMware maybe you boot time will decrease . ( https://winraid.level1techs.com/t/e...vme-option-rom-for-amibios8-core-legacy/40283 )
Take a look at my guide ( and at the previous link ) and prepare modded bios for your mobo .

Catup, i really think it s linked to the size of the drive. something goes bad over 1TB and boot takes 2 times a 20sec pause. (post bios, and then, post windows boot, aka, windows logo appears, and the spiral appears only 15 20 sec later)

i tested it on both of my drives. it really seems to be a matter of size.

Ok MrPanda but from work with two drives 980 and 990 (only 1Tb each) it happened the same long windows post in the drive added with samsung option rom and very short in the drive added with VMware option rom . If you tested both Option rom with your drive it seems that you are right and the size is the matter.

oh you're right, i totally forgot about the vmware. well the samsung rom behaves differently if it is 1TB or 2TB. i couldnt test the vmware rom because it implies a LOT of troubles on my computer with the Grub boot manager, if disks get a different name, well, i'm basically offline -it will not be easy at all to get back a working boot if the one i currently have fails-

ideally if i had a spare nvme i could try on a blank system. depends if i'm given some broken hardware with spare parts i can use. recently, people keep the spares and even the broken things, they dont "give" much anymore.
