This modder's other projects:
Performed Mods:
Stripped case, remounted LCD perpendicular to case, Removed keyboard, trackpad, optical drives. New CPU heatsink from MSI ATI x300 gfx card, custom usb powered cpu fan, custom stand from 2x ide hdd's (WD 500MB, IBM 2GB). All held together with duct tape.
This mod was inspired by Buro Vormkrijgers Pong Clock
http://www.burovormkrijgers.nl/
The screensaver is also by the same company.
Virtually everything on this case is held together with duct tape, as evidenced by the rear pictures.
In addition, this system can also play Space Invaders and Pac Man.
Currently, I am working on a cycling system to cycle the screensavers on a predetermined schedule.
With the addition of speakers, this unit can act as a fancy audio/video alarm clock. With a wireless card, it could act as a rss feed downloader as well as a PMP. Currently, this unit does not have any inputs, and is solely designed to be a desk clock.
And yes, this was a waste of a perfectly good laptop, but i was bored last week.......

LoL, I like it just for that comment :-), nicely done, probs the most overpowered desktop clock in existence! hehe
Its like saying I built the most uncrackable safe, now if only i could open it to get the blueprints id b rich!
Thumbs up from me!
I like it, prob not quite as efficient as a regular clock that takes an aa battery or 2 but MUCH prettier lol :D
i have a few suggestions.
1. move the blue fan in front over just a little. as it is, the motor in the middle of the fan is coverign most of the heat sink. if you move the fan over to one side just a little, the fan will be blowing ON the heat sink instead of on all sides of it. maybe when it is cooled better you can oc a little if you can find a hacked bios....
2. jesus that thing is ghetto. get rid of the duct tape and mount it in a clear plexiglass case with soem pretty blue lights to match the fan
3. maybe some more modern hardware?
-------
all in all, i give it a 10 for the creativeness and the amount of work it looked like it took to make...

2: Duct Tape is awesome.
3: I don't think you need Dual Opterons and an dual crossfire overclocked R600s to run A PONG CLOCK SCREENSAVER all day. It's better than having the hardly-upgradeable laptop sit in a box.
