Acer today announced new models of the AI-ready Acer Swift Go 14 (SFG14-72) powered by Intel Core Ultra processors that feature Intel Arc graphics processing unit (GPU) and Intel AI Boost, its new integrated neural processing unit (NPU), to deliver efficient computing performance of AI workloads and immersive experiences on the thin-and-light laptop. Students, professionals, and creators can leverage the Swift Go 14's array of AI features such as Acer PurifiedVoice and Acer PurifiedView for videoconferencing and customization tools on the OLED laptop. With a bunch of new OLED displays launching from several major brands, it's been very quiet on the Mini LED front. This is despite several panel makers having showed off new Mini LED panels this year. That said, it now looks like Cooler Master is getting ready to launch a new 27-inch model called the Tempest GP2711, according to TFT Central. Looking at the base specs, this is a standard 165 Hz 2560 x 1440 monitor that's built around a VA-type panel with a sub 4 ms grey to grey response time.

However, what makes it stand out from the crowd is the fact that it has a 576-zone Mini LED backlight, which helps deliver an SDR brightness of 600 cd/m². Furthermore, Cooler Master has gone with a Quantum Dot coating, which should make colour pop. It should also have a 3000:1 contrast ratio and a colour gamut that covers 95% of the DCI-P3 reference space. Gaming features include FreeSync Premium Pro support. Connectivity wise the Tempest GP2711 is said to sport one DP 1.4 and two HDMI 2.0 ports, as well as a USB Type-C with DP Alt mode support and 15 W power delivery. There are also two downstreams USB 3.0 ports and an audio out, as well as presumably another USB input, as the monitor is said to feature KVM support. The stand supports standard tilt, height and swivel adjustments. According to TFT Central, the Tempest GP2711 should retail for around US$449 when it arrives early next year.

The drivers also offer 4% to 11% uplifts for "Starship Troopers: Extermination" Early Access. The drivers introduce an all new version of Arc Control, which adds fan speed settings, VRR control, a new Search bar that finds features and settings; improved background replacement for virtual camera, and the ability to select more than one device for telemetry. Apple hardware hoarders do exist - a friend told me that he'd only just replaced a 2013 vintage 15-inch Retina MacBook Pro this month - these folks continue to enjoy repairs or miscellaneous services at Apple Stores and authorized service providers on some products. Unfortunately there is potential bad news for preservationist owners of the original Thunderbolt Display and the first generation iPad Air tablet - a leaked internal memo suggests that Apple has decided to add these two antiques to their end-of-life (EOL) device list, according to MacRumors. Apple's Thunderbolt Display was released back in the summer of 2011, the company boasted that its fancy 27-inch 1440p monitor was the world's first display with Thunderbolt I/O technology (at the time), the asking price was $999. Alongside its requisite Thunderbolt I/O port (designed to connect to compatible Mac Notebooks), the monitor had a number of other spiffy features including an in-built 720p webcam, three USB 2.0 ports, a FireWire 800 port and a Gigabit Ethernet port.

Apple stopped making the Thunderbolt Display in 2016, and customers had to wait another six years for a successor to turn up - the Studio Display launched alongside the Mac Studio in March 2022. The original (1st gen) iPad Air was released on November 1 in 2013. It was the first entry in the iPad tablet family to feature a thinner design - its standard (non-Air) predecessors were a bit chunkier in comparison. It was discontinued in March of 2016, and Apple has so far released five generations of iPad Air products - last year's model debuted with the ARM-based M1 chipset.

LG has launched what appears to be something of a budget model in its UltraGear range of gaming monitors in the shape of the UltraGear 27GR75Q-B. What we're looking at is a 2560 x 1440 resolution display with a refresh rate of up to 165 Hz, which not so long ago would've made this a premium product in the 1440p monitor segment. However, taking a closer look at the specifications, it's pretty clear that this is more of a budget model, as it only supports HDR10 and has a typical brightness of 300 nits and a minimum brightness of a mere 240 nits. You still get an IPS panel at least, although we're not sure how LG can claim it has a 1 ms grey to grey response time, as that's not something commonly found in IPS displays.

Other gaming features include FreeSync Premium and G-Sync Compatible support and LG's various gaming features, such as black stabilizer, dynamic action sync and an OSD feature that allows you to add a crosshair. Connectivity consists of two HDMI ports which top out at 144 Hz and one DP 1.4 port that tops out at 165 Hz, as well as a 3.5 mm audio jack. The monitor is at least fairly power efficient with a maximum power draw of 48 W and a typical power consumption of 45 W. The stand supports tilt, height and pivot adjustment. We found the UltraGear 27GR75Q-B listed for sale in Hong Kong for around US$250, confirming that this is indeed a more budget friendly option from LG.

The Q24G2A/BK is an apparent best selling model in the Chinese gaming monitor market, and AOC has decided to make its popular 23.8-inch 1440p gaming-focused screen available to European customers. It is slightly unusual for a small monitor to feature such a high pixel density (123 pixels per inch), thanks to the 2560×1440 QHD specification - but buoyant sales figures in China indicate that the region's gamers favor higher resolutions within a compact frame. AOC is now motivated enough to bring the IPS-based Q24G2A to a western audience - where tastes could be different - although there is no word about any upcoming availability in North American territories.

The western equivalent of China's popular Q24G2 model (launched in that region last year) has been updated and fitted with a pair of internal stereo speakers (rated at 2 W each), and the overall aesthetic is quite familiar - the Q24G2A/BK looks to share the same chassis (plus stand) with the cheaper/lower spec 24G2U/BK model. AOC is touting an MSRP of €249 for its European customers, and that pricing is a bit eyebrow raising - larger 27-inch IPS QHD gaming monitors sit comfortably in this price bracket. Pixel density enthusiasts could favor the smaller AOC since it beats out the twenty-seven inchers in terms of sharpness (123 vs 108 PPI). It is speculated that AOC has sourced the Q24G2A/BK's IPS-ADS panel from BOE Technology.

Bethesda tweeted out an information update directed at Xbox Series console owners - and it has caused a stir within the fanbase - Redfall will be locked to "Quality Mode" upon launch in early May. PC gaming enthusiasts will have plenty to laugh about with these newly announced graphical performance restrictions, set for the green team's pair of current generation consoles. The frame rate will be capped at a maximum of 30 frames per second on both Xbox Series X and S, under the "Quality" performance mode. The version tuned for Series X will be able to output at the 4K UHD resolution standard (3840 x 2160), and the pixel count will be reduced for Microsoft's weaker console offering, at 1440p QHD (2560 x 1440).

Bethesda states that a 60 frames per second "Performance Mode" for Xbox Series X|S will be added at a later (unspecified) date, presumably via an online patch issued through Xbox Live. No further details were provided regarding the decision to cap frame rates, all the more strange given that Redfall is due to launch very soon. Arkane Studios (the Austin, TX branch) declared last month that it was also working on a removal of the always online requirement for the game's single player element - again, no time period for release has been established for this reversal. Redfall has attracted mounds of controversy over the past two months - including Sony's attention through litigation.

The metoric rise of Hisense as a consumer electronics giant is attributable to its cost-effective smart TVs and home appliances, but with the 2023 International CES, the company stated it intention to dominate the gaming monitor and home cinema markets. The company showed off a wealth of conventional-sized and large-format gaming displays based on cutting-edge tech such as Mini-LED illuminated Fast IPS. The new G7H is a new line of planar 25-inch and 27-inch gaming monitors that feature just that—a Fast IPS panel with 576 min-LED backlit illumination diodes, 170 Hz refresh-rate with 1 ms response time, 1440p resolution, DisplayHDR 600 certification, and 97% coverage of DCI-P3, along with AMD FreeSync Premium Pro.

The U7K is technically a 43-inch TV that Hisense wants to market as a large format gaming monitor, although it does pack the entire set of the company's smart TV features. The display offers 4K Ultra HD resolution a Mini-LED illuminated Quantum Dot panel, 144 Hz refresh-rate, Dolby Vision Atmos, and 1,000 nits maximum brightness. Hisense also unveiled its Laser TV home projectors ranging for projection sizes ranging between 65-inch to 150-inch, featuring a triple-laser light source, 107% BT.2020 coverage, 1,600 ANSI lumens brightness, 4K Ultra HD native resolution, and Dolby Atmos. Its in-built 2.1 speaker set has been sourced from JBL by Harman. The projector supports both Chromecast (in-built), and Apple AirPlay.

HyperX, the former gaming peripherals brand of Kingston, was acquired by PC OEM giant HP in 2021. It was only natural for HP to use the HyperX brand to ship gaming monitors at some point, as the company has a vast lineup of not just PC and professional displays, but also some gaming displays under its HP OMEN brand. The company announced the HyperX Armada brand of gaming monitors in the 25-inch and 27-inch planar category in September 2022. We spotted it at the 2023 CES. It has prominent HyperX badging, some peel-off stickers on the front bezel detailing its key gamer-friendly features; and an NVIDIA G-SYNC logo. Key specs include WQHD (1440p) resolution, 165 Hz refresh-rate, DisplayHDR 400, and a fast IPS panel with 1 ms response time. HP will probably retain the OMEN brand for ultra-premium gaming monitors, with the HyperX Armada series in the mid-range.

NVIDIA today formally launched the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti "Ada" performance segment graphics card at a starting MSRP of USD $799. Based on the 4 nm "AD104" silicon, the RTX 4070 Ti is essentially the same product as the RTX 4080 12 GB, which NVIDIA decided to cancel from its original mid-November launch, toward a new one this CES, under a new model name. The card maxes out the silicon it's based on, featuring 7,680 CUDA cores, 60 RT cores, 240 Tensor cores, 240 TMUs, and 80 ROPs. It gets 12 GB of GDDR6X memory across a 192-bit wide memory interface, running at 21 Gbps (GDDR6X-effective). The card has a typical power rating of 285 W, and continues to use a 12VHPWR power connector, even on the custom-design products.

NVIDIA claims that the RTX 4070 Ti should enable maxed out AAA gaming with ray tracing at 1440p, while also being formidable at 4K Ultra HD in games that can take advantage of technologies such as DLSS 3 frame-generation, or even classic DLSS 2. The company claims that it offers performance comparable to the previous-generation flagship, the GeForce RTX 3090 Ti "Ampere," with a much higher performance/Watt rating. The RTX 4070 Ti doesn't appear to feature an NVIDIA Founders Edition model, and is a partner-driven launch, with custom-design cards dominating the scene. Featuring 4352 FP32 CUDA cores, the GPU is powered by an AD106-350-A1 die. On the die, there is 32 MB of L2 cache. To pair, it has 8 GB of GDDR6 18 Gbps memory, which should be enough to power games at 1440p resolution, which this card is aiming for.

The design of the cards reference PG190 PCB is supposedly very short, making it ideal for ITX-sized designs we could see from NVIDIA's AIB partners. Interestingly, with a TDP of 220 Watts, the reference card is powered by the infamous 16-pin 12VHPWR connector, capable of supplying 600 Watts of power. This choice of connector is unclear; however, it could be NVIDIA's push to standardize its usage across all products in the Ada Lovelace family stack. While the card should not need the full potential of the connector, it signals that the company could only be using this type of connector for all of its future designs.

If LG's 27-inch 1440p OLED monitor wasn't your cup of tea, the company has launched a second UltraGear branded gaming OLED monitor with an entirely different form factor. The UltraGear 45GR95QE-B as it's known as, is a 45-inch ultra wide monitor with a 3440 x 1440 pixel resolution, giving it an aspect ratio of 21:9. As with the 27-inch 27GR95QE-B, we're looking at a 240 Hz refresh rate here and the same 0.03 ms GtG response time and the ability to display up to 1.07 billion colours. However, this is where the similarities end, as the 45GR95QE-B's massive panel means that LG made it a curved display and it's very curved at 800R. Despite its enormous size, it has a pixel pitch of a mere 84 PPI, which is very low, especially as a normal pixel pitch for a 3440 x 1440 display is somewhere around 110 PPI on a 34-inch display, which places this closer to a 27-inch 1080p display.

The monitor has two HDMI and one DP input, as well as one upstreams and two downstreams USB 3.0 ports. It also has an S/PDIF out, a headphone jack with DTS HP:X support and a barrel plug for an external 19.5 Volt power brick. LG doesn't provide a typical power consumption, but the power brick can deliver 210 Watts. It also comes with a remote, for changing the settings. Other features include VRR, FreeSync Premium and G-Sync Compatible support. It also has the same gaming features as LG's other UltraGear monitors. The supplied stand supports tilt, height and swivel adjustments. For those considering this massive display, which measures almost a metre wide, make sure your desk can handle the weight, as it comes in at almost 11 kg. LG's asking price for this beast of a monitor isn't for those with a tight budget, as it's a rather steep US$1,699.99.
