AAEON and AOTU.AI Announce Smart Vision AI Dev-Kit

AAEON and AOTU.AI are excited to announce the launch of the BrainFrame Edge AI Developers Kit (DevKit) on an Intel AI platform for IoT that will allow developers and system integrators to rapidly create and deploy Smart Vision applications. AI computer (smart) vision applications are often bespoke and laborious to build and deploy. The BrainFrame Edge AI DevKit provides a new paradigm in creating solutions such as vision-based access control, uniform compliance, manufacturing automation, and video analytics.

AAEON's fanless industrial computer is powered by 8th Generation Intel Core i5 Processors and Intel Movidius Myriad X VPU and pre-installed with the Aotu.ai BrainFrame Smart Vision platform. BrainFrame is a platform designed to be easy to scale and highly configurable to allow any connected camera to become a continuously monitoring Smart Vision system. BrainFrame's automatic algorithm fusion and optimization engine is powered by VisionCapsules, Aotu.ai's open source algorithm packaging format. These self-contained capsules have a negligible memory footprint and include all necessary code, files, and metadata to describe and implement a machine learning algorithm.

Shuttle Unveils XPC DH370 Mini-PC for 6-core 8th Gen Intel Processors

The 1.3-litre PCs of the XPC slim model series are getting a facelift - the DH370 sports a new chassis design which accommodates Intel processors of the 8th generation for socket LGA1151v2, relies on the faster H370 chipset and offers a total of four USB 3.1 ports with up to 10 GBit/s. With the DH370, Intel's H370 chipset makes its debut in Shuttle's range of 1.3-litre PCs. The models with a 3-litre volume are the largest and therefore most flexible ones in the XPC slim series. They are based on the Intel H310 chipset and support Intel processors up to 65 Watt of TDP for socket LGA1151v2. Up to 32 GB DDR4 memory can be used in both devices.

Intel 9000 Series CPU Lineup Confirmed in Official Microcode Revision Guidance + Clocks

Following all of the unofficial, tentative tidbits of information following Intel's on-again, off-again 9000 series CPU lineup (which still belongs to the 8th Generation), we now have official confirmation - as is usual, through Intel's documentation. In this instance, the "culprit" is Intel's Microcode Revision Guidance. The Coffee Lake S series featuring 6+2 configurations are now listed with Core i5-9600(K), Core i5-9500(T) and the Core i5-9400, while the Core i3-9100 and Core i3-9000 SKUs are listed with a 4+2 configuration.

Update: Intel's 8th Gen Specification Update now lists clocks and core count for the aforementioned CPUs. Overall, there's an increased 100 or 200 MHz Max Turbo frequency across the board within the same TDP package, and some instances of 100 MHz base frequency increases over Intel's 8000 series CPUs (can't just call them 8th gen anymore now can we?). The 9600K, for example, increases base clocks from the 8600K by 100 MHz (up to 3.7 GHz base), but pole-vaults its predecessor in maximum Turbo (up to 4.5 GHz).

Coffee Lake S 8-Core CPU With iGPU Referenced in Company's Documentation

Intel's upcoming Coffee Lake-S CPUs are still only referenced as smoke and mirrors - gradually becoming denser, surely, but slowly. However, hawk-eyed users have begun noticing the usual trickle of information that precedes a product release. In this case, Intel themselves have started listing technical documentos referencing the Coffee Lake-S parts, and though these read as confidential, the hints they hide are enough to piece together some broad strokes.

Intel's 8th Gen Core-B Processors Are BGA Solutions for AIOs

Intel has announced, in-between the flurry of announcement sin the past week, that they're introducing a line of BGA (Ball-Grid Array) microprocessors to their 8th Gen line-up with the Core-B branding. The new CPUs look to deliver easily installed, scalable, premium processor options for all sorts of limited Z-height computing packages, such as the ones found in AIOs, without sacrificing performance in order to keep TDPs in check.

This means that these processors ship with a 65W TDP - higher than Intel's top-performing mobile H solutions. This move may come in handy for some users that wonder regarding upgradeability of a given AIO they're eyeing - if it comes with a Core-B processor, you know it won't be user-serviceable, much less upgradeable. The line-up will start with the Core i7-8700B, i5-8500B, and i5-8400 (yes, there's an absence of a B there) processors, all shipping with a 65 W TDP, and equivalent to their desktop counterparts - core counts, base frequencies, turbo frequencies, memory support, Optane support, and integrated graphics are all the same. The only difference is that these CPUs are likely - and should be expected - to be placed into TDP-limited scenarios enabled through firmware.

Dell Gaming Laptops Are Perfect for Cheating in PUBG

Intel held an event in Beijing last week to launch their new 8th Gen Intel Core mobile processors. As usual, PC and laptop manufacturers flocked to the venue to promote their latest gaming products. This time around, Dell single-handedly stole the spotlight. The company claimed that their gaming laptops were perfect for running multiple 'plugins' in PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds. Ben Mansill from PC Authority was present during Dell's presentation, and this was what he had to say about Sally Zhang, the Account Director and assigned Dell spokesperson:
"She spoke of how Chinese gamers are the most innovative and dominant in the world by using 'plugins' to, for example, run faster than other players, or blow up ten cars at a time, and that these top gamers can really use 8th-Gen power to 'run more plugins to win more at Chicken Dinner', and that the top players run the most 'plugins' so that's where 8th-gen Dell power gives them the gamer's edge. Behind her a video proudly shows various cheats in PUBG in action (they really like the one with the massively oversized gun and show that a lot), with the new Dell gaming laptops shown every few seconds while Sally told us that gamers should buy a Dell because they're better at running many plugins. Wow."
