BOE Demonstrates 110-inch 16K LCD Screen at Display Week 2023

Renowned HDTVTest YouTube reviewer and presenter, Vincent Teoh, has been exploring the showroom floor at this year's Display Week trade symposium (in Los Angeles, CA). He was intrigued by some cutting-edge screen tech at BOE's booth and announced this discovery on Twitter yesterday evening: "Forget 8K. Here's the world's first 110-inch 16K display unveiled by BOE at Display Week 2023. LCD-based, max 400 nits. The resolution is unreal though, no visible pixels even right up close."

The demo unit appears to be a prototype - BOE Displays has not revealed any type of official product launch. Their giant screen is reported to be almost 2.8 meters wide in terms of diagonal length, and a specification sheet placed nearby lists a maximum 15360x8640 resolution paired with a 60 Hz refresh rate. The 16K display has a contrast ratio of 1200:1 and is capable of reproducing 99% DCI-P3 color coverage. We hope to view further reports from this tradeshow - hopefully a BOE rep will provide details about the required GPU power to run their monster LCD monitor.

Intel to Demonstrate PowerVia on E-Core Processor Built with Intel 4 Node

At VLSI Symposium 2023, scheduled to take place between June 11-16, Intel is set to demonstrate its PowerVia technology working efficiently on an E-Core chip built using the Intel 4 node. Conventional chips have power and signal interconnects distributed across multiple metal layers. PowerVia, on the other hand, dedicates specific layers for power delivery, effectively separating them from the signal routing layers. This approach allows for vertical power delivery through a set of power-specific Through-Silicon Vias (TSVs) or PowerVias, which are essentially vertical connections between the top and bottom surfaces of the chip. By delivering power directly from the backside of the chip, PowerVia reduces power supply noise and resistive losses, optimizing power distribution and improving overall energy efficiency. PowerVia is set to make a debut in 2024 with Intel 20A node.

For VLSI Symposium 2023 talk, the company has prepared a paper that highlights a design made using Intel 4 technology and implements E-Cores only in a test chip. The document states: "PowerVia Technology is a novel innovation to extend Process Scaling by having Power Delivery on the backside. This paper presents the pre and post silicon findings from implementing an Intel E-Core in PowerVia Technology. PowerVia enabled standard cell utilization of greater than 90 percent in large areas of the core while showing greater than 5 percent frequency benefit in silicon due reduced IR drop. Successful Post silicon debug is demonstrated with slightly higher but acceptable throughput times. The thermal characteristics of the PowerVia testchip is inline with higher power densities expected from logic scaling."

NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang Confirmed as Headline Speaker at Computex 2023

Taiwan's External Trade Development Council (TAITRA) has announced the keynote speaker for Computex 2023 - NVIDIA co-founder and current CEO Jensen Huang is confirmed as the main host of the opening ceremony event. The forthcoming computer trade show will have a general opening on May 30, with a keynote address delivered by Huang scheduled for the day before. Computex 2023 is set to be hosted at the Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center (Hall 1 & Hall 2) until June. Co-organizer TAITRA boasts that 1000 exhibitors (from 17 nations) will participate in show floor activities. 3000 individual booths will be setup for exploration by prospective attendees.

Huang is one of several key electronics company CEOs announced as participants in conference events. He joins key representatives from firms such as Qualcomm, Acer, NXP Semiconductors and Supermicro. NVIDIA's leader was named in Time's 100 List of Most Influential People for the year 2021, and is a winner of numerous other awards, so it is no wonder that he gets top billing at Computex 2023. Attendees have a lot to look forward to, not limited to a (potentially) dynamic keynote speech delivered by Huang, since this year's show will be an open door affair. A return to proceedings last experienced in 2019, prior to global shutdowns.

E3 2023 Officially Canceled

Following the exodus of many high profile companies within the gaming and entertainment industries, the Entertainment Software Association (ESA) has announced the cancellation of E3 2023. The event was to be held on June 13th through the 16th at the Los Angeles Convention Center, and would have been the first in-person E3 in 4 years, the last in-person event having been in 2019. In an email sent out to members the ESA stated that E3, "remains a beloved event and brand," but that the 2023 event, "simply did not garner the sustained interest necessary to execute it in a way that would showcase the size, strength, and impact of our industry." The email ends with no mention of the event's future.

ESA has issued an official public statement from Kyle Marsden-Kish, Global VP of Gaming, on the cancellation:
This was a difficult decision because of all the effort we and our partners put toward making this event happen, but we had to do what's right for the industry and what's right for E3. We appreciate and understand that interested companies wouldn't have playable demos ready and that resourcing challenges made being at E3 this summer an obstacle they couldn't overcome. For those who did commit to E3 2023, we're sorry we can't put on the showcase you deserve and that you've come to expect from ReedPop's event experiences.

NVIDIA GTC News to Be Shared on March 24, Followed by Investor Call

NVIDIA today announced that, in light of the spread of the coronavirus, it is deferring plans to deliver a webcast keynote as part of the digital version of its GPU Technology Conference later this month. The company will, instead, issue on Tuesday, March 24, news announcements that had been scheduled to be shared in the keynote. This will be followed by an investor call with NVIDIA founder and Chief Executive Officer Jensen Huang, which will be accessible to other listeners. The call will begin at 8am Pacific time and will be accessible at investor.nvidia.com.

NVIDIA had initially planned to host its 11th annual GTC on March 22-26 at the San Jose Convention Center, with an anticipated audience of 10,000. Amid the worsening coronavirus situation, the company said earlier this month that it was shifting much of the conference to its digital platform. The company believes that continuing public health uncertainties would challenge its ability to produce and deliver a digital keynote. Other components of GTC Digital will still take place, including live webinars, recorded talks and panels, research posters, trainings, and Connect with Experts sessions available starting Wednesday, March 25. More details will be provided in the coming days.

R600 Launch on April 23rd to 24th in Tunisia

Finally a date appeared at the internet on that the huge launch of AMD/ATI's latest chip, the R600 will take place. And it won't happen anywhere near you I guess because someone decided to let all this happen in the capital of the North African state Tunisia, Tunis. The reason for that is unknown but I guess it makes it very hard for a potential thief to get away with one of the most sought-after graphics card in the world today. Either you have to swim right through the Mediterranean Sea or you end dried up to the bones in the Sahara Desert.
Anyway, TheInquirer still insists that the mass production of the R600 will be in 65nm whereas the GDDR3-cards at the launch were made using a 80nm process.

Note by W1zzard: This will not be the launch date. At this date the NDA press briefings are scheduled, which will be before the launch so press has time to prepare their articles.
