EIZO DuraVision FDH3601 On Display at NAB 2012

EIZO's 4K posterboy, DuraVision FDH3601 will be up for display on the 14th of April at the NABShow 2012, in Las Vegas USA, a convention of creative professionals and production houses. What makes this 36.4" PC monitor an eyeball magnet (literally), is that it sports a 4K resolution (4096 x 2160 pixels), and has a bleeding-edge featureset for content-creators. So high is its resolution, that it requires two dual-link DVI connections (or two DisplayPort connections, provided they transport two TMDS links each). It can deliver 100% coverage of the RGB palette, with the ability to reproduce 278 trillion colors. Other vital stats include 700 cd/m² brightness, 1000:1 contrast ratio, 176° and 176° (H and V) viewing angles, and 8 ms response time. The DuraVision FDH3601 was first announced in 2011. It costs a little over $35,000.

ZOTAC Unveils ZT-Z77-U1D SuperOverclock High-End Motherboard

ZOTAC unveiled a monster LGA1155 motherboard aimed at professional overclockers, and based on the new Intel Z77 Express chipset, the ZT-Z77-U1D. Pictured below, the designers' focus was evidently on giving the motherboard a very strong VRM, apart from just enough expansion and connectivity features for 2-way multi-GPU setups. To begin with, the LGA1155 socket is powered by a 27-phase VRM, which consists of AIO ferrite-core solid-state chokes, DrMOS, tantalum capacitors, and a super-ML multiphase capacitor to condition power. The VRM is controlled by a VRD12-compliant controller.

The LGA1155 socket is wired to four DDR3 DIMM slots, supporting dual-channel DDR3-2133+ MHz memory, and two PCI-Express 3.0 x16 slots (x8/x8, when both are populated). Other expansion slots include four PCI-Express 2.0 x1, wired to the Z77 PCH. All six SATA ports from the PCH are assigned as internal ports, that's two SATA 6 Gb/s, and four SATA 3 Gb/s. Display connectivity includes DVI, HDMI, and DisplayPort. Other connectivity includes 8+2 channel HD audio, 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 3.0, gigabit Ethernet, six USB 3.0 ports (two on the rear panel, four via headers), and a number of USB 2.0 ports.

Galaxy Unveils Single Slot-Capable Liquid-Cooled GeForce GTX 680 Graphics Card

Galaxy released a picture of a new GeForce GTX 680 graphics card it's working on, a liquid-cooled model that beats EVGA's GTX 680 HydroCopper at being truly single-slot capable. It does this by using the 6-pin and 8-pin PCIe power connectors in the same plane, instead of using an 8+6 pin piggy-backed connector that spans across two expansion slots. Also changed here is the stacked DVI connector cluster, it's replaced by two mini-DisplayPort connectors next to a full-size HDMI and a full-size DisplayPort. The card uses a full-coverage water-block, with its coolant ports protruding outwards on top, so enthusiasts will have plumb out tubing for each card in SLI setups, and can't use conventional multi-port fittings, unless of course, Galaxy has a solution for that. More details are awaited.

GIGABYTE GeForce GTX 680 WindForce 3X OC Graphics Card Pictured

GIGABYTE is ready with its first non-reference design GeForce GTX 680 graphics card, the GTX 680 WindForce 3X OC. The card makes use of an NVIDIA reference-design PCB (in GIGABYTE's signature shade of blue, of course), and its in-house design WindForce 3X cooling solution. The reference-design PCB is slightly-customized by GIGABYTE to have 8-pin and 6-pin PCIe power connectors (instead of dual 6-pin). By the looks of it, all five NVVDC phases are enabled (only 4/5 enabled on the retail reference-design GTX 680). Interestingly, GIGABYTE chose the 6-pin connector that's otherwise disabled on the reference design, instead of a piggy-backed 6+8 pin connector cluster. Sadly, dual-DVI port cluster ensures the PCB is still single slot-incapable.

Guru3D reports that the card will come with an out-of-the-box core clock speeds of 1071 MHz (base), 1124 MHz (boost, derived), and 1502 MHz (6.00 GHz GDDR5 effective) memory. Cooling the beast is GIGABYTE's tried and tested WindForce 3X, which uses three 80 mm PWM-controlled fans to ventilate a large complex aluminum fin heatsink, which draws heat from three 8 mm-thick copper heat pipes that span the entire length of the card. Display outputs include two dual-link DVI and one each of DisplayPort and HDMI. Pricing and availability are not known.

More Intel Desktop Board Media Series Motherboards Pictured

Intel activated product pages of nearly all its upcoming Desktop Board products based on 7-series chipsets. Last week, we were treated to detailed pictures of Intel's Z77 chipset-based Desktop Board products. Now we move on to other Desktop Board Media Series motherboards, those based on Intel's other 7-series client chipset the H77. Pin-compatible with Z77, Intel's H77 chipset provides nearly all features of its sibling, with the exception of overclocking. So motherboard designers needn't dedicate resources to implementing strong VRM designs on their H77 products, and can instead focus on other features such as connectivity and expansion.

Sapphire Pure Platinum Z77 Motherboard Final Iteration Pictured

Sapphire is ready with a high-end socket LGA1155 motherboard based on Intel Z77 chipset, the Pure Platinum Z77. This is Sapphire's second Z77 motherboard disclosed so far, after the Pure Black Z77 it showed us, at CES. Sapphire is offering 3-way multi-GPU support in a very unique way. Three of its four PCI-Express x16 (long) slots are wired to the CPU, all three of them PCI-Express Gen 3.0. The topmost slot is x16 and x8 capable (x8, if any of the other two slots are populated); the middle slot is x8 and x4 capable (x4, if the bottommost blue slot is populated); while the bottommost slot is x4 capable. PCI-Express 3.0 x4 offers bandwidth comparable to PCI-Express 2.0 x8 (or PCI-Express 1.1 x16), which doesn't heavily bottleneck today's graphics cards. An ingenious slot layout, made possible by inexpensive PCIe lane switches, instead of expensive bridges.

NEC Display Solutions Updates MultiSync EA Series with EA223WM

Updated Dell XPS 15 Laptop Said to Have Slimmer Casing, Ivy Bridge CPU

According to a fresh report, in Q2 Dell will be releasing a new XPS 15 laptop, one that makes use of Intel's 3rd generation Core processors (codename Ivy Bridge), has a chassis just 24.2 mm thick (down from 38 mm of the current XPS 15), and packs a 15.6-inch WLED-backlit Full HD (1920 x 1080) display protected by Gorilla Glass.

The upgraded XPS 15 is said to feature a Core i5-3210M or Core i7-3612M CPU, up to 16 GB of RAM, a 1 TB HDD or a 512 GB SSD, a GeForce GT 630M or GT 640M graphics card, a glass trackpad, a 3-in-1 card reader, USB 3.0 connectivity, Gigabit Ethernet, WiFi, Bluetooth 3.0, and both HDMI and mini DisplayPort outputs. Philips Announces the 241P4LRY 'ErgoSensor' Monitor

Philips has now introduced the 24-inch Brilliance 241P4LRY, its very first monitor to feature the ErgoSensor technology which not only saves power but also helps the user have a healthier experience. To cut power draw (by up to 80%), the ErgoSensor will turn off the monitor when no one is in front of it, while to ensure better ergonomics it will advise the user on neck posture, optimal viewing distance and will suggest breaks at regular intervals.

The 241P4LRY features WLED backlighting, a native resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels, a 5 ms response time, 250 cd/m2 maximum brightness, a contrast ratio of 1,000:1 (20,000,000:1 SmartContrast), D-Sub, DVI and DisplayPort connectivity, four USB 2.0 ports, two 1.5 W speakers, and a stand enabling height, swivel, tilt and rotation adjustment.

Philips claims the 241P4LRY will hit stores early next month, bearing a price tag of 339 Euro.

EVGA GeForce GTX 680 Superclocked Made Official

Only teased last week, EVGA's factory-overclocked GeForce GTX 680s are becoming a reality, with the first one to get make it out being the GTX 680 SuperClocked. The SC model is based around NVIDIA's reference design but has a base clock of 1058 MHz (1006 MHz stock), a boost clock of 1113 MHz (1058 MHz), and a memory frequency of 6208 MHz (6008 MHz).

The GeForce GTX 680 SC also packs 1536 CUDA Cores, a 256-bit memory interface, 2 GB of GDDR5 VRAM, a PCI-Express 3.0 bus interface, 3D Vision Surround and SLI support, and dual-DVI, HDMI and DisplayPort outputs.

The 'vanilla' GTX 680 SuperClocked costs $519.99 while its backplate-equipped sibling goes for $529.99. Both should become available very, very soon.

ZOTAC GeForce GTX 680 Listed for Pre-Order

Here comes one of the first online-store listings of the GeForce GTX 680. Branded by ZOTAC, this GTX 680 is listed on Dutch online-store ComCom.nl, for 426.20€ excluding taxes, and 507.18€ including it. The store is accepting orders, stating that it will begin shipping in 2-5 weeks. There's practically no quantity limit, so those picking four cards for 4-way SLI, can step right up. The ComCom listing doesn't reveal much about the card, except its clock speeds of 1006 MHz (core), 6008 MHz (memory effective), 2 GB memory amount, and display connectivity that includes two DVI, and one each of HDMI and DisplayPort. "In winkelwagentje" is Dutch for "Add to cart". Find the listing here.

New NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680 Pictures Hit The Web

Courtesy of ChipHell we now have a couple of fresh pictures of NVIDIA's first Kepler-powered graphics card, the GeForce (or should we write' GeFORCE') GTX 680. Shot both from above and the back, the incoming card has a black PCB, a dual-slot/single-fan cooler, two (stacked) 6-pin PCIe power plugs, a couple of SLI connectors, and four display outputs - dual DVI, HDMI and DisplayPort.

The GTX 680 is equipped with one GK104 28 nm GPU, and reportedly boasts 1536 CUDA Cores, a 256-bit memory interface, 2 GB of GDDR5 VRAM (4 GB models should also be in the works), PCI-Express 3.0, and a TDP of around 190 W. The GeForce GTX 680 is expected to be launched next week, on March 22nd. Its rumored price tag is $549.

Manli Unveils Elite Mini PC

Manli, a brand owned by PC Partner, showed off its latest mini-PC, the Elite. Driven by AMD E-450 "Brazos" APU, the Elite is a barebone, that requires you to add the memory (a single DDR3-SODIMM slot is available), and storage (a 2.5-inch drive with SATA 6 Gb/s connection available). Pre-configured models with 2 GB memory and 320 GB HDD are available in select markets. Connectivity includes two USB 2.0 ports, two USB 3.0 ports, a DisplayPort and HDMI connector for display, an eSATA port, Gigabit Ethernet, a multi-format card reader, audio jacks and built in 802.11b/g/n WLAN.

ASUS PA248Q 24-Inch Monitor Comes With Four USB 3.0 Ports

At this year's CeBIT ASUS is showcasing the world's first monitor with a built-in 4-port USB 3.0 hub, the PA248Q. Part of the ProArt Series, this SuperSpeed USB-enhanced display makes use of a 24-inch IPS panel, and has LED backlighting, 178/178 degree viewing angles, a native resolution of 1920 x 1200 pixels, a 5,000:1 contrast ratio, a 6 ms response time, and a maximum brightness of 400 cd/m2.

The PA248Q also boasts D-Sub, DVI, HDMI and DisplayPort inputs, the QuickFit Virtual Scale feature, and a stand allowing for height, swivel, tilt and pivot adjusting. A pre-order listing has the monitor at about $594.

AFOX Readies Single-Slot Radeon HD 7850

At CeBIT, AFOX showed off the industry's first single-slot, air-cooled graphics card based on the Radeon HD 7850 GPU. Carrying the model number AF7850-1024D5S1, AFOX' creation sports a similar cooling assembly as the one on the AF6850-1024D5S1, an HD 6850-based graphics card. The cooler uses a big lateral-flow blower that directs air through a dense aluminum fin-channel array, where heat gets dissipated onto it. Heat is drawn from key components such as the GPU, memory, and VRM, using a vapor-chamber plate.

There's a small catch with AFOX' design, though. The memory amount is halved to 1 GB, although it still sits across a 256-bit wide memory interface. We don't expect a significant performance penalty for that. Further, the memory clock speed is reduced from the reference speed of 1200 MHz to 1125 MHz (4.80 GHz eff. to 4.50 GHz eff.), although the core speed stays the same, at 860 MHz. The display IO is an interesting mix of one dual-link DVI, one full-size HDMI, one mini-DisplayPort, and one full-size DisplayPort.

Thunderbolt Port Pictured on MSI Z77A-GD80

At last, we're getting to see visuals of MSI's top LGA1155 motherboard based on Intel Z77 chipset, the Z77A-GD80, featuring Intel's Thunderbolt interconnect. Thunderbolt is a unified interconnect that provides 10 Gb/s of raw bus bandwidth to connected devices, and passes through digital display. The connector itself resembles mini-DisplayPort. On the Z77A-GD80, the Thunderbolt port is located below a D-Sub connector. Naturally, is passes both 10 Gb/s Thunderbolt (which can be daisy-chained through multiple bandwidth-hungry devices), and display relayed from Intel processor-integrated graphics. Lucid VirtuMVP lets you harness the pixel-crunching power of your favourite discrete graphics card over this port, as well.

ITC Administrative Judge Issues Initial Determination in Rambus Matter

Rambus Inc. (Nasdaq:RMBS), one of the world's premier technology licensing companies, today announced it received notice that the Administrative Law Judge (ALJ) for its U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) action against LSI Logic, MediaTek, ST Microelectronics and other Respondents has issued an Initial Determination. According to the notice, ALJ Theodore R. Essex found there to be no violation of Section 337 of the Tariff Act of 1930 for the patents in question. The action is Investigation Number 337-TA-753.

Rambus may request a full Commission review of the ALJ's Initial Determination. If the Commission grants a petition for review, it may affirm, modify, reverse, set aside, or remand all or part of the ALJ's decision in developing the ITC's final determination.

Gigabyte Z77X-UD3H and Z77X-UD5H Pictured, Too

Here are the Z77X-UD5H and Z77X-UD3H pictured up-close. The two form Gigabyte's upper-mid range and mid range offerings based on the Intel Z77 chipset, supporting socket LGA1155 "Ivy Bridge" and "Sandy Bridge" Core processors. The Z77X-UD5H is an extremely feature-rich offering, in some aspects a more complete package than even the G1.Sniper 3. It provides a 15-phase CPU and 2-phase memory VRM. Expansion slots on this board include two PCI-Express 3.0 x16 (x16/NC or x8/x8), one PCI-Express 2.0 x16 (electrical x4), three PCIe 2.0 x1, and one legacy PCI.

Gigabyte's First Micro-ATX G1.Killer Motherboard Pictured

A little earlier, we were treated to pictures and details of the Gigabyte G1.Sniper 3 motherboard based on Intel Z77 chipset, supporting LGA1155 "Ivy Bridge" and "Sandy Bridge" processors. Presenting, Gigabyte's first G1.Killer series motherboard in the micro-ATX form-factor, the G1.Sniper M3. This new board is based on the same Z77 chipset, and is backed by a fairly exhaustive feature-set that makes it a formidable high-end micro-ATX gaming desktop choice (good for LAN party rigs). The LGA1155 socket is powered by a 9-phase VRM, which draws power from a 4-pin ATX connector (instead of 8-pin EPS). The socket is wired to four DDR3 DIMM slots, supporting dual-channel memory.

Gigabyte G1.Sniper 3 Z77 Motherboard Pictured

How time flies. It's been just a little over an year since Gigabyte unveiled its G1.Killer series of gamer-overclocker oriented motherboards, including the G1.Sniper, and now it's already at G1.Sniper 3. While the original G1.Sniper was based on the X58 chipset supporting LGA1366 processors, the the Sniper 2 based on Z68 chipset, supporting LGA1155 processors, the Sniper 3 stays put on the LGA1155 platform, but makes use of the brand-new Z77 chipset. The motherboard is designed to drive up to four graphics cards in 4-way CrossFire/SLI configurations. It takes advantage of a PLX PEX8747 bridge chip, which takes in one PCI-Express 3.0 x16 link, giving out two PCI-Express 3.0 x16 links, it even has a native multiplex that splits its second downstream x16 link to two x8 links. NVIDIA GK104 PCB Drawings, Unusual Power Connector Designs Surface

Here is the first x-ray drawing of NVIDIA's GeForce Kepler 104 (GK104) reference board, outlining the VRM area. The GPU and memory areas are blanked out for some very obvious reasons. Nevertheless, there's plenty of fascinating stuff going on in these pictures. To begin with, the picture confirms that the board will have 5 NVVDD phases, and up to three miscellaneous power domains. The PCB has provisions for two 6-pin and one 8-pin connector.

The funny part here is a strange new plug that has two 6-pin (or 8-pin+6-pin) stacked, while one of the two 6-pin connector leads are blanked. Some of our sources also report having seen a similar connector with 8-pin and 6-pin on samples of this card (refer to the last picture below). It's not just this, that makes the card incapable of single-slot operation, the DVI connectors over at the display IO also are stacked like on previous-generation AMD Radeon cards. Other connectors on the card are HDMI and DisplayPort. There are two SLI bridge connectors, giving it 3-way and 4-way SLI support.

Sapphire Announces the HD 7750 ULTIMATE
