ASUS today released the TUF Gaming VG279QL1A, a 27-inch flat-screen gaming monitor with an IPS panel. Designed for high refresh-rate e-sports gaming, it offers Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) resolution with 165 Hz refresh-rate, 1 ms (MPRT) response time, and support for AMD FreeSync Premium technology. It also features G-SYNC adaptive-sync capability, subject to NVIDIA adding support via graphics driver updates.

Other key panel specs include DisplayHDR 400 certification, 400 cd/m² maximum brightness, 178°/178° viewing angles, and 125% sRGB / DCI-P3 95% color saturation. You get a wide selection of ASUS-exclusive features such as GamePlus (crosshair overlay, FPS counter, display alignment), GameVisual (set of display presets specific to game genre), Shadow Boost, ELMB, and GameFast input. The display takes input from a pair of HDMI 2.0 ports, and DisplayPort 1.2a. Other features include 2 W stereo speakers, and headphones jack. The company didn't reveal pricing.

MSI today announced a new addition to their monitor lineup in the form of the Optix MAG272C, a 27", VA-based monitor with a 1080p resolution. The monitor's refresh rate is set at 165 Hz for fluid content consumption and/or creation, and the 1 ms response time is well in-line with the expected specs for monitors that have gaming on their crosshairs. The presence of FreeSync Premium and a 1,500R curvature helps to improve the package on offer.

Contrast is being quoted at 3,000:1, with 178º viewing angles and maximum brightness at 300 cd/m². The display offer 100% sRGB coverage and a respectable 89.5% DCI-P3 color-space coverage. There are anti-flicker and blue-light filtering capabilities built-in. I/O is taken care of by 2x HDMI 2.0, 1x DisplayPort 1.2a, 1x USB Type-C (DP Alt mode), as well as 2x USB 3.0 hub ports. No pricing information was available at time of writing.

Featuring a 1500R curvature, this monitor uses a VA panel with WQHD (2560 x 1440 pixels) native resolution, 1 ms (MPRT) response time, 165 Hz refresh rate, 178°/178° viewing angles, and support for AMD FreeSync Premium technology. Other vital panel specs include 3000:1 static contrast ratio with dynamic mega-contrast, 250 cd/m² maximum brightness, and 91.43% coverage of DCI-P3. The panel features a matte finish and anti-glare treatment. Inputs include one DisplayPort 1.2a (needed for FreeSync), and two HDMI 2.0 ports. The company didn't reveal pricing.

MSI today announced the release of not one, not two, but four monitors to their Optix lineup, under the Optix PAG272 family. These monitors aim to cater to all budgets, apparently, as their features vary across resolution and refresh rates according to the model number. RGB lighting on the back of the monitors is stock across the lineup. Starting from the top-down in terms of specs, the Optix PAG272URV features a 27", IPS panel sporting 4K resolution, 60 Hz refresh rate, a 4 ms GtG response time, FreeSync (non-Premium), and VESA Display HDR 400 certification. I/O is taken care of by 2x HDMI (1.4), 1x HDMI (2.0) and 1x DisplayPort (1.2).

That's not the most impressive display, though - that honor is reserved for the Optix PAG272QR2. The Optix PAG272QR2 features a 27", IPS panel sporting 1440p resolution, 165 Hz refresh rate, a 1 ms GtG response time, FreeSync Premium, and an HDR-ready badge (with maximum brightness set at 300 nits). I/O is taken care of by 2x HDMI (2.0) and 2x DisplayPort (1.4). The more interesting spec in this panel, though, is the addition of a Quantum Dot layer, which greatly improves color rendition: MSI claim 10 bit colors (8 bit + FRC) with 150% of the sRGB color gamut coverage, alongside 99% of the Adobe RGB color gamut, and 98% of the DCI-P3 color space, which makes this an interesting panel not only for gaming, but also for color-sensitive tasks.

EVE Distribution, the company that's already crowd-sourced the Microsoft Surface-rival Eve Hybrid, which launched to very positive feedback from the tech community (even with the incredible delays in shipping and distributing the purchased Eve Hybrids, though the company now says they've rebuilt their logistics and distribution mechanisms. Now, the company is eyeing next-generation gaming with its Spectrum monitor lineup, which aim to be both PC-centric and console-centric gaming monitors.

The three monitor models all share LG as a panel source (specifically, the same panel used in the LG UltraGear 27GL850. All of them also share the same IPS technology with 1 ms response times, 98% DCI-P3 and 100% sRGB coverage, as well as the same 1,000:1 contrast ratio. Freesync Premium (from 48 Hz VRR support through to the maximum refresh rate of every monitor) and G-Sync Compatible support is standard on all monitors. Differences start to appear when looking at maximum resolution, brightness and refresh rates.
