LG Electronics (LG) announced today pricing and availability of its 2024 UltraGear OLED gaming monitors, designed to provide superior gaming experiences. The lineup is led by the 45GS95QE-B—an immersive 45-inch curved LG OLED monitor with a 21:9 aspect ratio. The expanded lineup includes the highly anticipated CES 2024 Innovation Award-winning 32-inch 4K gaming monitor (model 32GS95UE) equipped with the new Dual Mode feature which allows gamers to switch between 4K (3,840 x 2,160) at 240 Hz and Full-HD (1,920 x 1,080) at 480 Hz with one simple click.

The company is also introducing its 39- and 34-inch models with ultra-wide curved screens: the 39GS95QE and 34GS95QE. All four models are now available for pre-order thru March 17, 2024 at LG.com (shipping expected in late March and throughout April) and available later at LG-authorized retailers. Customers who place a pre-order for the 45GS95QE-B, 39GS95QE or 34GS95QE UltraGear OLED gaming monitors via LG.com are eligible to receive a $200 Virtual Mastercard prepaid card. AMD in an announcement on Tuesday, announced changes to its AMD FreeSync display requirements. The updated requirements should vastly reduce the flood of 1080p and 1440p displays with lower refresh rates, such as 75 Hz, from boasting of FreeSync support. AMD has three tiers of FreeSync based on the refresh-rate and features such as HDR. The base tier FreeSync feature now calls for a desktop monitor or TV to come with a refresh rate of at least 144 Hz, if its horizontal resolution is under 3440 pixels. This would cover everything 2560 x 1600, to 2560 x 1440, to the popular 1920 x 1080, and certain ultrawide resolutions such as 2560 x 1080.

To qualify for the FreeSync Premium tier, which customers use to identify high refresh-rate displays; a desktop monitor or TV with a horizontal resolution under 3440 pixels now needs at least 200 Hz of refresh rate. Displays with over 3440 pixels (which should include 4K Ultra HD), now need at least 120 Hz to qualify for FreeSync Premium. AMD isn't clear on what refresh-rate it takes for a 4K UHD display to qualify for the base FreeSync tier. Moving on, the top FreeSync Premium Pro tier, which helps customers identify displays that not only have high refresh-rates but also HDR; nothing is changed—the display must feature HDR on top of meeting the new requirements for FreeSync Premium. The story is different for notebook displays. For the base FreeSync tier, a refresh-rate of 40-60 Hz will do; and for FreeSync Premium, you need at least 120 Hz. HDR on top of this gives you FreeSync Premium Pro. All displays will need FreeSync hardware support (which essentially builds on top of VESA Adaptive Sync).

Back in December, details of HP's OMEN Transcend 32 leaked and one of the big reveals was that this upcoming OLED display was going to feature DisplayPort 2.1 support. Now details have emerged via TFTCentral that the Transcend 32 might not be all it was expected to be, as its DP 2.1 port is what can only be referred to as severely limited, since it only supports UHBR10 which equals 40 Gbps worth of bandwidth. Comparing this with the upcoming Gigabyte AORUS FO32U2P which supports UHBR20, you're looking at twice the bandwidth at 80 Gbps. To put this into real world terms, this means that the OMEN Transcend 32 will still require DIsplay Stream Compression enabled to hit its maximum refresh rate of 240 Hz at 4K resolution, as this requires close to 69 Gbps of bandwidth. That said, it's still capable of 144 Hz without DSC, which is a small consolation prize, but it's hardly going to win over potential customers.

The OMEN Transcend 32 does have a few extras though, such as support for VESA AdaptiveSync 240 and ClearMR in addition to AMD's FreeSync Premium Pro. Other niceties include a USB Type-C port with DP Alt mode as well as 140 W USB Power Delivery, a USB Type-C output and KVM functionality. It's also said to feature "OMEN Gear Switch technology" which makes the display act as a network switch and enables files to be dragged and dropped between devices connected to the monitor. HP has as yet to announce pricing and a launch date for the OMEN Transcend 32.

Following its high-end 4K UltraGear pricing reveal, LG has released the full specs and pricing on a further three SKUs that were also announced back in December of last year. The models in question are the 34GS95QE, 39GS95QE and 45GS95QE, all of which sport a 3440 x 1440 resolution. As the model names suggest, we're looking at 34, 39 and a massive 45-inch display panel in these monitors. Other common denominators are that all three models are curved at 800R and a 240 Hz refresh rate, as well as a 21:9 aspect ratio. All three models also feature FreeSync Premium Pro and G-Sync support, a 275 cd/m² typical brightness and a 0.03 ms GtG response time.

Inputs also appear to be shared across the range with all models offering two HDMI 2.1 inputs and one DP 1.4, plus one USB 3.2 Type-B input and at least a pair of Type-A outputs and a headset jack. The stands are limited to height, tilt and swivel adjustments due to the curved nature of the displays. Price wise, these new OLED models are unlikely to sell as hotcakes, as the 34GS95QE starts at US$1,299.99, followed by the 39GS95QE at US$1,499.99 and finally the 45GS95QE at US$1,699.99. Considering that there are similar displays with lower refresh rates from several competitors at far lower price points, LG is likely going to have to offer some hefty discounts for these new models before they start selling in any kind of quantity.

Just before Christmas, LG unveiled the UltraGear 32GS95UE-B OLED gaming monitor with what the company is calling Dual-Hz, which allows for different refresh rates at different resolutions. In this case, 240 Hz at 4K and 480 Hz at 1080p. However, LG only provided basic specs and didn't reveal pricing back then, both of which now have been revealed. The 31.5-inch OLED panel used doesn't really stand out from the crowd with a typical brightness of 275 cd/m², a color depth of 1.07 billion colors (10-bit panel), a contrast ratio of 1.5 million to one a gray to gray response time of 0.03 ms and DisplayHDR True Black 400 certification.

As far as connectivity goes, some of you will be disappointed, as the 32GS95UE-B only sports DisplayPort 1.4 as well as HDMI 2.1. There isn't even a USB Type-C port on this monitor, instead a USB Type-B input and standard USB-A outputs, as well as a headphone output is all you get. LG has also kitted out the 32GS95UE-B with what the company called Pixel Sound speakers, i.e. the speakers are hidden behind the display panel. Both FreeSync Premium Pro and G-Sync compatibility is included, as well all the usual gaming features you'd expect. LG also includes a stand that supports tilt, height, swivel and pivot adjustments. In the US, the 32GS95UE-B comes with a two-year warranty, a US$1399.99 price tag and a mid-April shipping date.

Back in January, Gigabyte announced a wide range of new displays at CES and one of the new models that the company didn't have on display at the show was the AORUS FO27Q3. The company has now shared more details on its website of the new display and it gives us a lot more details than what had previously been released. As the model name suggests, the AORUS FO27Q3 is a 27-inch display and the resolution is 2560 x 1440 pixels and the refresh rate will top out at 360 Hz and has a response time of 0.03 ms. The FO27Q3 is built around a QD-OLED panel with an anti-reflective coating. The panel is said to be a 10-bit panel capable of 10.7 billion colours and it's certified for DisplayHDR True Black 400, has a typical brightness of 250 cd/m² and a contrast ratio of 15 million to one.

Other features include support for AMD FreeSync Premium Pro and VESA ClearMR 13000, but there's no mention of G-Sync support. Other features include a range of gaming related features such as crosshairs, night vision, black equalizer etc. as well as picture by picture and picture in picture support. Inputs consist of two HDMI 2.1 ports, one DP 1.4, one USB Type-C with DP Alt mode support as well as a very disappointing 18 W of USB Power Delivery. Furthermore there's a USB 3.0 upstreams port and two downstreams ports, a headphone and a microphone jack. Gigabyte has also added KVM support and a stand that offers tilt, swivels, pivot and height adjustment. The display is said to have a peak power draw of 53 Watts and relies on an external power brick. No word on pricing or availability.

ASUS and Republic of Gamers (ROG) today announced an exciting lineup of displays for gaming, professional content creation, hybrid work, and entertainment at CES 2024. GIGABYTE certainly came to the CES 2024 show in force and big part of its showcase were existing and new monitors, including the 48-inch OLED AORUS FO48U and the 49-inch OLED AORUS CO49DQ gaming monitors. During the show, GIGABYTE revealed a bit more information about its current monitor lineups, including gaming oriented AORUS, as well as multimedia, and standard G- and GS-series gaming monitors.

The flagship offer and the star of the monitor show at GIGABYTE's CES 2024 event was certainly the AORUS OLED monitor lineup, including the CO49DQ, MO34WQC2, FO32U2P, and the FO48U. The big 34-inch AORUS MO34WQC2 OLED monitor with 3440x1440 WQHD resolution and 240 Hz refresh rate is certainly a sight to behold. It is AMD FreeSync Premium certified, has 0.03 ms GTG response time, has integrated KVM switch, and offers two DisplayPort 1.4 and two HDMI 2.1 inputs. The CO49DQ is also another one that peaked our interest, and although it does not include the KVM switch, this 49-inch 10-bit OLED monitor with 5120x1440 resolution offers impressive picture quality with 99% DCI-P3 but sticks with 144 Hz refresh rate. It is also AMD FreeSync Premium certified and has two DisplayPort 1.4 and two HDMI 2.1 inputs, but lacks integrated KVM switch.

Acer has expanded its Predator gaming monitor line for hardcore gamers with four premium models designed to make gaming more immersive than ever with wide curved screens, spectacular picture quality, and smooth performance. Samsung Electronics America today announced new Odyssey OLED gaming monitors debuting at CES 2024, the world's biggest tech event owned and produced by the Consumer Technology Association (CTA), in Las Vegas next week. The GR65DC is available to purchase for $799.99 now at LG.com and LG-authorized retailers. For a limited time, customers shopping on LG.com can preorder the LG UltraGear GR75DC for $899.99 and receive an UltraGear GP9 gaming speaker ($399 ARV) along with free expedited shipping.

Titan Army is a Chinese gaming monitor brand that's been making waves in Asia due to their incredible value for the features on offer. The company uses Fast IPS and curved VA panels to offer resolutions and refresh rates from a segment above, at a given price range. The brand is now making inroads to the US market, and is now available on Amazon. The company dipped its toes into the US market with three well priced monitor models.

At the top, is the B0CKVPB31C, a 32-inch curved 16:9 monitor with WQHD (2560 x 1440 pixels) resolution, 144 Hz refresh rate, 95% DCI-P3 coverage, 1500R curvature, and support for AMD FreeSync Premium Plus. All this, for $299. At the same price, the company is also selling the B0CKVL7KMZ, a 27-inch flatscreen monitor with the same WQHD resolution as its 32-inch curved sibling, but with faster 180 Hz refresh rate using a Fast IPS panel. For under $200, the company is selling the B0CKVL38N5, a 24-inch flatscreen with Full HD (1920 x 1080) resolution, but with 100 Hz fresh rate using a Fast IPS panel. All three models are now available on Amazon, some regions could see a checkbox coupon that shaves $20 to $40 off.

The gaming monitors are on display at Gamescom 2023—the world's largest event for computer and video games, held from August 23 to 27 in Cologne, Germany—and the Odyssey Neo G9 57" can now be pre-ordered globally.

LG is something of an expert when it comes to silently launching new monitors and although its latest additions to its UltraGear range of gaming monitors are only minor variants of already existing products, it appears that we're looking at a pair of more affordable models. The 27GR93U-B and 32GR93U-B as the new models are called, measure 27 and 32-inches respectively and both offer 4K resolution and a 144 Hz refresh rate. Comparing the 27GR93U-B to the 27GN950-B, the first really obvious difference is the use of a standard IPS panel instead of a Nano IPS panel and this leads to a slight reduction in the DCI-P3 colour gamut from 98 to 95 percent.

The new models are only certified for FreeSync Premium, rather than FreeSync Premium Pro, but that appears to be the only obvious reduction in gaming features, as G-Sync compatible support, VRR, Black Stabilizer, Dynamic Action Sync, Crosshairs and the FPS counter are all present and accounted for. Both displays have two HDMI 2.1 ports, one DisplayPort 1.4 and one upstreams and two downstreams USB 3.0 ports, as well as a 4-pole 3.5 mm jack for a headset. On the plus side, these new models have slightly lower power consumption, with a typical power consumption of about 50 W for the 27-inch model and 65 W for the 32-inch model. The stand still supports tilt, height and pivot adjustment. No official pricing was announced, but we found the 27-inch model listed in Hong Kong for the equivalent of around US$560, which is around US$200 less than what the 27GN950-B retails for.

LG has launched what appears to be something of a budget model in its UltraGear range of gaming monitors in the shape of the UltraGear 27GR75Q-B. What we're looking at is a 2560 x 1440 resolution display with a refresh rate of up to 165 Hz, which not so long ago would've made this a premium product in the 1440p monitor segment. However, taking a closer look at the specifications, it's pretty clear that this is more of a budget model, as it only supports HDR10 and has a typical brightness of 300 nits and a minimum brightness of a mere 240 nits. You still get an IPS panel at least, although we're not sure how LG can claim it has a 1 ms grey to grey response time, as that's not something commonly found in IPS displays.

Other gaming features include FreeSync Premium and G-Sync Compatible support and LG's various gaming features, such as black stabilizer, dynamic action sync and an OSD feature that allows you to add a crosshair. Connectivity consists of two HDMI ports which top out at 144 Hz and one DP 1.4 port that tops out at 165 Hz, as well as a 3.5 mm audio jack. The monitor is at least fairly power efficient with a maximum power draw of 48 W and a typical power consumption of 45 W. The stand supports tilt, height and pivot adjustment. We found the UltraGear 27GR75Q-B listed for sale in Hong Kong for around US$250, confirming that this is indeed a more budget friendly option from LG.

Philips has revealed its debut model in the Evnia 5000 range of gaming monitors - 25M2N5200P. The Dutch electronics firm has already released a diverse lineup of premium screens for enthusiast gaming-types, but the relatively young games-oriented Evnia brand is now expanding into more mainstream territory with its 5000 series - the dark slate (gray-colored) chassis distinguishes this lineup from the more sophisticated offerings (usually finished in white). Philips is readying its new 25M2N5200P ultra fast gaming monitor for release in Europe next month, coming in at more budget conscious price of €299. This 24.5-inch sized mid-tier model is fitted with a snappy IPS panel rated for a maximum refresh rate of 280 Hz (in overclock mode).

Speedy gaming enthusiasts will be happy to learn that the FHD (1920 x 1080) Fast IPS-type panel accommodates a 0.5 ms MPRT response time. The 25M2N5200P appears to be quite a unique case when compared to equivalent competitors - AMD FreeSync Premium adaptive synchronization and motion blur reduction (MBR) can be enabled in parallel which provides the end user with a fast and smooth in-game experience, free of major image ghosting issues. Philips will be offering customers who prefer VA panel technologies an alternative model called the 25M2N3200W, set for release in European markets within the next few months.
