GIGABYTE A620M Gaming X Motherboard Pictured

Here's the first picture of the GIGABYTE A620M Gaming X, a product the company is targeting at the entry-level gaming PC crowd. The Socket AM5 Micro-ATX motherboard is based on the AMD A620 chipset, which lacks CPU overclocking, and limits both PEG and M.2 PCIe to Gen 4. The board draws power from a 24-pin ATX and 8-pin EPS power connectors; and uses an 8+2 phase VRM to condition power for the processor. You get four DDR5 DIMM slots, and expansion slots that include a PCI-Express 4.0 x16, and a PCI-Express 3.0 x1.

Storage connectivity on the GIGABYTE A620M Gaming X includes an M.2 slot with PCI-Express 4.0 x4 wiring from the processor, and four SATA 6 Gbps ports from the A620 FCH. The M.2 slot gets an included M.2-2280 heatsink. Display outputs include HDMI and DisplayPort. Networking is care of a 1 GbE wired Ethernet backed by a Realtek controller; and a basic 6-channel HD audio solution consisting of a Realtek ALC887 CODEC, electrical isolation, and audio-grade capacitors. You get two 10 Gbps USB 3.2 ports, one of which is type-C. Four 5 Gbps USB 3.1 ports (two type-A on the rear panel, two via headers); and a handful USB 2.0 ports, make for the rest of it. The board's empty traces suggest that GIGABYTE has the option to create a variant that includes WiFi.

AMD Speeds Up Development of "Zen 5" to Thwart Intel Xeon "Emerald Rapids"?

In no mood to cede its market-share growth to Intel, AMD has reportedly decided to accelerate the development of its next-generation "Zen 5" microarchitecture for debut within 2023. In its mid-2022 presentations, AMD had publicly given "Zen 5" a 2024 release date. This is part of a reading-in-between the lines for a recent GIGABYTE press release announcing server platforms powered by relatively low-cost Ryzen desktop processors. The specific sentence from that release reads "The next generation of AMD Ryzen desktop processors that will come out later this year will also be supported on this AM5 platform, so customers who purchase these servers today have the opportunity to upgrade to the Ryzen 7000 series successor."

While the GIGABYTE press release speaks of a next-generation Ryzen desktop processor, it stands to reason that it is referencing an early release of "Zen 5," and since AMD shares the CPU complex dies (CCDs) between its Ryzen client and EPYC server processors, the company is looking at a two-pronged upgrade to its processor lineup, with its next-generation EPYC "Turin" processor competing with Xeon Scalable "Emerald Rapids," and Ryzen "Granite Ridge" desktop processors taking on Intel's Core "Raptor Lake Refresh" and "Meteor Lake-S" desktop processors. It is rumored that "Zen 5" is being designed for the TSMC 3 nm node, and could see an increase in CPU core count per CCD, up from the present 8. TSMC 3 nm node goes into commercial mass-production in the first half of 2023 as the TSMC N3 node, with a refined N3E node slated for the second half of the year.

12GB Confirmed to be GeForce RTX 4070 Standard Memory Size in MSI and GIGABYTE Regulatory Filings

It looks like 12 GB will be the standard memory size for the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 graphics card the company plans to launch in mid-April 2023. It is very likely that the card has 12 GB of memory across the 192-bit memory bus width of the "AD104" silicon the SKU is based on. The RTX 4070 is already heavily cut down from the RTX 4070 Ti that maxes out the "AD104," with the upcoming SKU featuring just 5,888 CUDA cores, compared to the 7,680 of the RTX 4070 Ti. The memory sub-system, however, could see NVIDIA use the same 21 Gbps-rated GDDR6X memory chips, which across the 192-bit memory interface, produce 504 GB/s of memory bandwidth. Confirmation of the memory size came from regulatory filings of several upcoming custom-design RTX 4070 board models by MSI and GIGABYTE, with the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC), and Korean NRRA.

Gigabyte B650 AM5 Motherboard Joins the $125 Crowd

Despite the fact that AMD promised that $125 AM5 are coming, there aren't many such motherboards on the market. The newest addition is the Gigabyte B650M K, which is now available at $124.99. Gigabyte's B650M K will be joining the previously available ASRock B650M-HDV/M.2 microATX motherboard, which was the first B650-based motherboard available at $125.

Same as the ASRock motherboard, the Gigabyte B650M K is also a micro-ATX motherboard with the same 8+2+1 VRM, but features four DIMM slots with support for up to 128 GB of DDR5-6400+ memory. Unfortunately, it apparently features two PCIe 4.0 M.2 slots, rather than a PCIe 5.0 x4, and comes with a single PCI-Express 4.0 x16 slot (in addition to the PCIe 3.0 x1). The rest of the specifications include Realtek's Audio, Realtek 2.5 Gb Ethernet, couple of USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C, Type-A, and USB 2.0/1.1 ports, as well as DisplayPort 1.4 and HDMI 2.1 outputs. Bear in mind that both of these are $139.99 motherboards, discounted down to $124.99, so hopefully, we'll see more of these $124.99 motherboards soon.

Gigabyte Also Teases 192GB Memory Support on X670E Motherboard

Gigabyte is also apparently testing the new BIOS update that should bring non-binary memory support to AMD's 600-series chipset motherboards. With the official AGESA update for AMD X670 and B650 apparently just around the corner, it does not come as a surprise that all motherboard makers are implementing it and testing it on their motherboards.

The latest comes from Gigabyte over at Coolaler forums, showing the AORUS X670E Master motherboard running 192 GB of DDR5 memory. This time around, the memory was running at 6000 MT/s, so the official support is certainly around the corner, even for overclocked kits. Both Corsair and G.SKILL have already announced their own 24 GB and 48 GB modules running at up to DDR5-8000. The official AGESA update is rumored to come in April, but there is no official word from either AMD or various motherboard makers.

Giga Computing Announces Entry-Level AMD Ryzen-based Servers

Giga Computing, a subsidiary of GIGABYTE and an industry leader in high-performance servers, server motherboards, and workstations, today announced new GIGABYTE servers for the AMD Ryzen 7000 series processor that are highly cost-effective, high performing, and enterprise feature rich. The line that separated data centers from personal users is not so clear because modern desktop processors have a respectable CPU core count and impressive multi-threading performance, laying the foundation for infrastructure that is highly manageable, scalable, and efficient. Installing a consumer CPU platform into an enterprise rack solution provides a low-cost barrier to entry-level servers that are typically used for dedicated hosting, cloud gaming, code development, and content creation.

Of the four new 1U GIGABYTE servers, the E133-C10 is a short-depth edge server, whereas the R133-C10, R133-C11, and R133-C13 are traditional rack servers. This spectrum of entry-level servers allows for excellent price points to be reached with each model having its unique advantage whether that be the need for dual 10GbE ports or support for a dual-slot GPU. On the more budget friendly side are the E133-C10 and R133-C10 servers that are very similar and have been designed to support an AMD Ryzen 7000 "Zen 4" series processor up to 105 W TDP. Conversely, the R133-C11 and R133-C13 have additional support for the full spectrum of processors up to 170 W TDP and a power delivery system for a discrete GPU, so they will be used for 3D modeling, machine learning, VDI, and more. Last, each server comes with a 80+ Platinum rated power supply, and buyers can talk to our sales if they prefer a 80+ Titanium unit. Because this is a low power server it will surely to be deployed in homes, offices, and colocation centers.

MSI Also Working on Motherboard With Connectors on the Reverse Side

After Gigabyte and ASUS, it appears that MSI is also working on a similar motherboard concept that puts most, if not all, connectors on the reverse side of the motherboard. MSI will be joining Gigabyte, ASUS and MaxSun with such concept, as MSI B650 DIY-APE motherboard has been now spotted online. In order to optimize cable management, the idea is that most, if not all connectors are located on the reverse side of the motherboard, allowing users to hide power, fan, storage, and peripherals cables behind the motherboard.

According to the latest leak, MSI is apparently working on two motherboards based on AMD B650 chipset that have entered a qualification state. While it means that these are still far away from being a retail product, it is certainly an interesting concept that we are looking forward to. Of course, this also means that one would need a compatible PC case, that has strategically placed cutouts in order to access those connectors. The original post has some of those cases pictured. In addition to ASUS, MaxSun, and now MSI, Gigabyte also had a similar concept with Project Stealth.

Giga Computing Releases First Workstation Motherboards to Support DDR5 and PCIe Gen5 Technologies

Giga Computing, a subsidiary of GIGABYTE and an industry leader in high-performance servers, server motherboards, and workstations, today announced two new workstation motherboards, GIGABYTE MW83-RP0 and MW53-HP0, built to support the Intel Xeon W-3400 or Intel Xeon W-2400 desktop workstation processors. The new generation of Intel "Sapphire Rapids" Xeon W-3400 & W-2400 series processors adds some significant benefits to its workstation processors when compared to the prior gen of "Ice Lake" Xeon W-3300 processors. Like its predecessor, the new Xeon processors support up to 4 TB of 8-channel memory; however, the new Xeon CPUs have moved to DDR5, which is incredibly advantageous because of the big jump in memory bandwidth performance. Second, higher CPU performance across most workloads, partially due to the higher CPU core count and higher clock speeds. As mentioned before, the new Xeon processors support PCIe Gen 5 devices and speeds for higher throughput between CPU and devices such as GPU.

GIGABYTE Intros Radeon RX 6800 XT Gaming OC Pro

GIGABYTE gave its previous-generation Radeon RX 6000 graphics card series an unexpected revision even as the new RX 7000 series is out. The company released the Radeon RX 6800 XT Gaming OC Pro, a new graphics card model in the company's main GIGABYTE Gaming brand, positioned a notch below the AORUS Gaming series. The new Gaming OC Pro features a significantly larger cooler than the original RX 6800 XT Gaming OC, measuring at least 33 cm in length, up from roughly 29 cm for the original RX 6800 XT Gaming OC. It's also significantly taller, by at least 1.5 cm.

It turns out that GIGABYTE is sitting on plenty of cooling solutions it originally ordered from its suppliers for the Radeon RX 6950 XT Gaming OC, and is now reusing them for other SKUs based on the same "Navi 21" GPU, such as the RX 6800 XT. The company is also reusing the same PCB. Selling for around $550-650, the RX 6800 XT remains a formidable 1440p gaming graphics card for classic raster 3D graphics, although its ray tracing performance is closer to those of mid-range GeForce RTX 30-series models, such as the RTX 3060 Ti. A reuse of the RX 6950 XT board design means that the new RX 6800 XT Gaming OC Pro has three 8-pin power inputs instead of two on the original RX 6800 XT Gaming OC.
