Cougar finally got around to releasing the Phontum Pro gaming headset to the market, having unveiled it way back at the 2018 Computex, and announced it in December 2019. The Phontum Pro is an upscale variant of the Cougar Phontum, featuring a USB DAC in addition to the 4-pole 3.5 mm jack input. ASUS- upcoming ROG Strix Go 2.4 headset may well grab more headlines than this one here at TechPowerUp, since the company has decided to integrate the latest buzzword in their upcoming product (missing is a "Gaming" addition). According to ASUS, the ROG Strix Go 2.4-s bi-directional boom-mic uses a noise-cancelling algorithm to block out up to 95% of unwanted noise, ranging from rage-induced keyboard mash-ups through nagging significant others (just kidding, they never nag). ASUS says that the algorithm they've deployed in these noise-cancellation features has been trained on a database of over 50 million records for tens of thousands of hours. But noise-cancellation with no discernible output sound quality wouldn't a driving product make, and so ASUS has included their 40 mm Asus Essence drivers on these headphones, which ASUS says have a penchant for Bass, and have been conditioned in an airtight chamber for reduction of any parasitic sounds.

While at Computex we made sure to visit Gamdias and let's just say they had quite the diverse lineup on display. Starting with peripherals the company had the HEBE P1A headset on hand. Sporting RGB lighting like the majority of products on display it did have some impressive specifications. Starting with the drivers, Gamdias went big cramming 53mm units into the headset with a noise canceling system. Taking things a step further on the sound front the HEBE P1A also offers simulated 7.1 surround sound. For comfort and ease of use, it has oversized earcups along with a flexible unidirectional microphone. Meanwhile, impedance is quite low with it being rated at 32 Ohm meaning it won't need an amp to get the most out of it.

When we first covered Valve's own teaser about their first-party VR hardware ecosystem under the Valve Index moniker, we were not expecting to hear much more until May. Thanks to an error on their part, product pages for the headset, base stands, and controllers were all published prematurely on Steam for a few hours yesterday, and that was enough time for all the information to be saved online by others. The product pages were not complete, and lacked details that we expect to get sooner than later, but Valve has since confirmed that all information inadvertently leaked are accurate and we now more about the retail package now.

To begin with, May 1 is targeted as the official announcement date which will also bring with it pre-order options for those going this route in PC VR. The complete package will contain the headset itself with integrated headphones, of which we have a better render available now as seen below, a tether cable using DisplayPort 1.2 and USB 3.1 Gen 1 connections (and not the VirtualLink standard we were hoping to see), a region-specific power adapter and plug(s), and two face gaskets (narrow and wide). Interestingly the now-renamed Index Controllers are not included and are an optional, separate purchase. This is also the case with the Index base stations, which all leads us to assume that existing HTC Vive controllers and base stations will be compatible with the headset, or there will be another, more complete package to choose from. No pricing information available yet, and Valve says they are still finalizing this as well as actual shipping detail- with an aim to hit it in June.
