Hydrogen Series Makes a Comeback, MSI Preparing GeForce RTX 3090 Model

MSI's iconic Hydrogen series of graphics cards are making a comeback. According to the latest Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) listings, we have information about the latest addition to MSI's lineup of graphics cards. For starters, MSI has filled EEC reports about its upcoming GeForce RTX 3060 LHR variants, which feature an updated GA106-302 GPU. The new cards will carry the LHR name as a part of the official product name, to be easily separated from non-LHR variants, so buyers know exactly what model they are getting.

Additionally, MSI is seemingly making a comeback of its Hydrogen series. Hydrogen lineup used to be popular with GeForce GTX 580 Hydrogen card, which delivered awesome overclocking performance enabled by a water block strapped onto the card. If MSI brings the series back, it will come in the form of the GeForce RTX 3090 Hydrogen model, which could represent the highest-end RTX 3090 design from the company. It remains to be seen what MSI does with it, and if we are getting it at all, so we have to wait for more information.

ASUS and MSI Put out Windows 11 TPM 2.0 Compatible Motherboard and Processor Lists

ASUS and MSI have each put out lists of their motherboards and compatible processors that meet the Windows 11 requirement of a TPM 2.0 spec-compliant trusted platform module, without needing an add-on TPM. ASUS says that its motherboards dating back to the Intel 300-series, and AMD 300-series, and processors compatible with them, meet the requirement, which would mean Intel "Coffee Lake" and forward; and AMD "Zen" and forward. MSI, on the other hand, extends support all the way back to Intel 100-series (when paired with "Kaby Lake" or forward); and AMD 300-series ("Zen" and forward).

For HEDT platforms, both companies support TPM 2.0 on Intel X299, AMD X399, and AMD TRX40. Server- and workstation chipsets from processor generations corresponding to these platforms, will also support Windows 11. Intel and AMD began integrating a firmware TPM with these platforms that met TPM 2.0 specification. Older platforms will require an add-on TPM, which scalpers are selling for upward or $100 these days (normally under $20). The firmware TPM, although present, is usually disabled, and needs to be enabled in the UEFI setup program. In addition, the firmware must be configured for UEFI boot, with Secure Boot enabled, to meet Windows 11 requirements.

MSI Announces MAG X570S Series Motherboards

At the beginning of June, MSI presented the brand-new X570S Series motherboards during MSI's online product launch event. The unique designs and remarkable features sparked widespread discussions. Here are more in-depth concrete details regarding the MSI MAG X570S Series. In 2019, AMD's X570 platform came out and became the first chipset that supports PCIe 4.0 solution. Even now, MSI X570 Series motherboards are undoubtedly a great lineup with high specifications and aggressive designs. However, MSI can't just stop there. Our mission is to deliver the best computing experience for every gamer and creator. The new X570S Series motherboards achieved exactly that.

MSI Launches CMP 50HX MINER with 3584 CUDA Cores

MSI has recently launched the first NVIDIA Cryptocurrency Mining Processor (CMP) 50HX model with the MSI CMP 50HX MINER. The CMP 50HX is the third card in the CMP lineup above the CMP 30HX and CMP 40HX and a step below the flagship as of yet unreleased CMP 90HX. The CMP 50HX was expected to feature nearly identical specifications to the RTX 2080 Ti due to the similar reported mining performance and the fact that 30HX and 40HX models were derived from consumer cards. MSI has revealed that the CMP 50HX does use the TU102 but with only 3584 CUDA core compared to the 4352 cores found with the RTX 2080 Ti, the 50HX also features less memory with only 10 GB GDDR6. These core and memory reductions do come with a small power requirement reduction from 250 W to 225 W however dual 8-pin power connectors are still required. The MSI CMP 50HX card features a blower cooler design with a small plastic window and no display outputs.

MSI Pledges to Solve Graphics Card Shortages Single-Handedly... Thanks to the GeForce GT 730?

This just goes to show exactly how starved the market is for graphics cards - that the puny GeForce GT 730, from seven years ago, is being relaunched by a graphics card company. MSI might be oddballing the market here, since we haven't seen any other brand offering this particular graphics card. Of course, this won't solve the gaming graphics card shortage - this is a product that's meant for users that don't have a GPU output on their CPU and need to have a discrete solution.

The GT730 may have been revived partly due to its usage of DDR3 VRAM instead of the now ubiquitous GDDR6 - the pricing pf which is bound to increase, as we've seen with current ridiculous levels of demand. The GT 730 packs 384 CUDA cores and features a 902 MHz boost clock and 2 GB of DDR3 memory operating at 1,600 MHz across a 64-bit memory interface. The GT 730 sips only 23 W of power, meaning that it doesn't need any power delivery outside that of the PCIe port - and aiding in the card's passive cooling. The fact that this is a Kepler card - and the fact that NVIDIA has announced end of support for Kepler cards with the release of the GeForce R470 drivers - should actually have no impact on its preferred usage on today's technology landscape.

MSI: Commemorating 35 Years in the Industry With the RTX 3090 SUPRIM Anniversary Limited Edition

MSI is celebrating its 35 years in the industry with a slight revision to its RTX 3090 SUPRIM graphics card. The celebration takes form via the RTX 3090 SUPRIM Anniversary Limited Edition graphics card (you can tell because of the NV Link connector, which is only present on that card), which should see about the same availability as the lowliest RTX 30-series graphics cards. The SUPRIM Anniversary Edition features MSI's Tri Frozr 2S cooling solution, which help to cool the base 350 W TDP of the SUPRIM card - still fed here by a triple 8-pin power connector setup.

For now, details are scarce on what physical differences there actually are on the card that could actually affect it performance-wise - MSI has promised to share more details in the future. For now, the card seems to be an aesthetic job, with much increased art detailing in the shroud and backplate. Both the shroud and backplate actually feature what look like single-line renders of MSI's past graphics cards, which is a cool legacy touch for the company. The Limited in the name is both a reference to how MSI will artificially limit this cards' production so it becomes a collector card, and the general state of the market. Check after the break for what exactly MSI is aiming at with this 35th Anniversary Edition graphics card.
