Alphacool today unveiled the Eisblock Aurora Plexi GPX-A line of full-coverage water blocks for a range of custom-design AMD Radeon RX 5700 series graphics cards. The lineup includes a model for the Sapphire RX 5700 XT Nitro+, one for the PowerColor Red Devil and Red Dragon models of RX 5700 and RX 5700 XT, and one for the MSI RX 5700 XT Gaming X. The common element between the three is a combination of nickel-plated copper primary material, mated with a clear acrylic top. The three weigh roughly 1.2 kg, and feature mount hole spacing aligning with PCBs from the three brands. Available now, the blocks cost 109.94€ a piece.

The Sapphire-specific model is compatible only with the RX 5700 XT Nitro+, and measures 260 mm x 141 mm x 23 mm (LxHxW). The PowerColor-specific model, which supports the common PCB PowerColor uses across its Red Devil and Red Dragon models based on the RX 5700 and RX 5700 XT, measures 238 mm x 143 mm x 23 mm. The MSI-specific model is the longest among the three, measuring 293 mm x 139.3 mm x 22.5 mm, supporting the RX 5700 XT Gaming X. All three support standard G 1/4" fittings.

MSI launched their latest monitor, in the form of the PS341WU Prestige monitor. This one comes in an all-white design with gold MSI accents - a welcome departure from the usual black color scheme preferred for these particular peripherals. The Prestige has been built with screen real-estate and color accuracy in mind - a monitor designed purely for gaming this is not. Its 21:9 aspect ratio is already slightly hit or miss in official game support, compounded by the 60 Hz refresh rate and 5 ms response time.

The monitor makes up for this for professionals or casual gamers (and aren't most of us?) due to its resolution and color rendition, tough: 5120 x 2160 pixels covering 98% of the DCI-P3 color gamut and 100% sRGB. DisplayHDR 600 certification is also on board, meaning up to 600 nits peak brightness and high-contrast HDR content delivery. The monitor's contrast ratio is set at 1,200:1, and support for display of 1.07 billion colors. Connectivity stands at 2x HDMI 2.0, 1x DisplayPort, 1x USB 3.1 Gen1 Type A, 1x USB 3.1 Gen1 Type B, 1x 3.5 mm headphone jack, mic in and an audio jack. It's currently available for preorder in select retailers for $1,199.99.

AMD is giving final touches to an AGESA microcode update that fixes the issue of underwhelming Precision Boost behavior on its 3rd generation Ryzen processors. Version ComboAM4 1.0.0.3ABBA is being pushed to motherboard manufacturers to integrate with their UEFI firmware, and one such dispatch to MSI got leaked to the web on ChipHell. Tom's Hardware grabbed the BIOS as it was compatible with the MEG X570 Creator motherboard they have, and tested the Ryzen 9 3900X and Ryzen 7 3700X with it.

In its testing, posted in a mini-review article, Tom's Hardware observed that with AGESA 1.0.0.3ABBA, their 3700X sample was correctly hitting 4.40 GHz across the board at stock settings. With the older 1.0.0.3AB, it would touch 4.375 GHz. The Ryzen 9 3900X behaves slightly differently with this microcode. Tom's Hardware was able to raise its peak boost frequency from 4.575 GHz to 4.625 GHz (above the 4.60 GHz specification), but in certain tests such as POV-Ray and Cinebench, its boost frequency decays down to 4.250 GHz. Overall, the reviewer tabulated improved performance on the chips with the new microcode. The new microcode also apparently changes the processor's thermal thresholds.Update (10/9) AMD posted an elaborate release detailing the AGESA 1.0.0.3ABBA update.

MSI today rolled out the MAG Optix G27C4 27-inch curved gaming monitor. With a more acute curvature of 1500R (compared to the prevelant 1800R monitors), the Optix G27C4 boasts of 165 Hz refresh-rate and support for AMD FreeSync. The Samsung-sourced VA panel offers Full HD (1920 x 1080) resolution, 1 ms response-times, 178°/178° viewing-angles, and an anti-glare surface treatment. Display inputs include DisplayPort 1.2a (needed for FreeSync), and two HDMI 1.4a ports. The panel also offers blue-light reduction, and flicker-free LED backlighting. Measuring 611.5 mm × 225.4 mm × 457.9 mm (WxDxH), the monitor weighs around 5.4 kg. The company didn't reveal pricing.

During this year's Gamescom, MSI had a booth set up showcasing multiple products among which they shown new model of Radeon RX 5700 and 5700 XT graphics cards. Boasting a beefy triple slot cooler with two of MSI's Torx fans, the card is designed to stay cool under all kinds of workloads. Interesting thing to note here is the addition of aluminium plate that spans over VRM area, presumably to help with cooling. Card is powered by two 8 pin connectors, indicating that PCB is clearly a non-reference, custom model with boosted VRM configuration.

For I/O, we are getting a standard set for RX 5700 series, meaning three DisplayPorts and one HDMI port. Frequency is undisclosed, however we can expect to see a slight factory OC. MSI has confirmed that the card will become available in a couple of weeks, precisely 21 days from now.

MSI unveiled its Radeon RX 5700-series MECH graphics cards. The lineup includes graphics cards based on both the Radeon RX 5700 XT and the Radeon RX 5700. MSI further differentiated them into a base variant that ticks at AMD-reference clock speeds out of the box, and OC Edition variants that come with factory-overclocked speeds. The MECH series is positioned slightly lower than the company's Evoke series, and the OC Edition variants come with clock speeds that are a notch lower than those of the Evoke OC. The RX 5700 XT MECH OC Edition ships with 1670/1815/1925 MHz (base/gaming/boost) clocks, while the RT 5700 XT MECH has reference clocks of 1605/1755/1905 MHz. The RX 5700 MECH OC Edition comes with 1515/1675/1750 MHz, while the standard RX 5700 MECH ships with reference clocks of 1465/1625/1725 MHz.

All four MECH series graphics cards are based on a common board design. The PCB is custom-design, and is similar to that of the RX 5700 Evoke series. The cooling solution uses the same exact aluminium fin-stack heatsink as the EVOKE, with the same pair of 90 mm TorX fans, but suspended onto a cost-effective plastic shroud, compared to the diamond-cut alloy shroud of the EVOKE. All four cards feature a backplate. The cards draw power from a combination of 6-pin and 8-pin PCIe power connectors. Display outputs include three DisplayPorts and an HDMI. The RX 5700 XT and RX 5700 MECH series from MSI are expected to be priced about $10-15 higher than the AMD baseline prices for the base variants, and about $15-20 higher for the OC Edition variants.

Another MSI interpretation of AMD's RX 5700 graphics card has been taken out of the bag. This time, on the form of the Mech OC series, which carries a dual-slot, dual-fan configuration not dissimilar to MSI's Ventus graphics cards, but with a darker color palette. The design is appealing, even if fully in plastic save for the backplate, which is full black and has some white strips to add a little more interest to the otherwise blank surface. The MSI Radeon RX 5700 Mech OC graphics card ships with 3x DisplayPort 1.4 and 1x HDMI 2.0 ports, and will join other MSI custom design mainstays in the company's portfolio for AMD-based hardware.

Ahead of its launch, TechPowerUp scored an exclusive picture of MSI's premium custom-design Radeon RX 5700 XT graphics card, the RX 5700 XT EVOKE. The EVOKE is a completely new card design and brand-extension making its debut with the RX 5700-series. MSI drew some visual cues from the NVIDIA TITAN RTX, as the card features a solid metal cooler shroud holding a pair of 90 mm fans, with a champagne gold finish and diamond-cut edges. The shroud binds seamlessly with the matching metal back-plate. Underneath it, MSI appears to be using a similar aluminium fin-stack heatsink to its Twin Frozr VII cooling solution, which uses four 6 mm-thick copper heat pipes t, and a single fin-stack that spans the entire length of the card.

It's not just the heatsink, even the two fans are similar 90 mm TorX spinners. The card offers idle fan-stop, a must-have especially for this GPU. Interestingly, underneath this custom cooling solution, our sources tell us that MSI is using AMD's reference-design PCB for the RX 5700-series, which draws power from a combination of 8-pin and 6-pin PCIe power connectors. In terms of monitor connectivity, the card has three DisplayPort outputs and one HDMI port. It remains to be seen what factory-overclocked speeds MSI offers for these cards. The card should hit the shelves on August 15, our review sample is already on its way.

MSI today announced that their in-house overclocker Kovan Yang has broken the world overclocking record for DDR4 memory. The record-breaking feat was achieved with a pair of HyperX Predator DDR4 memory modules paired with MSI's MPG Z390I GAMING EDGE AC motherboard, with a little help from liquid nitrogen cooling.

The overclock was achieved with some compromises: the Intel Core i9-9900K processor that powered the system was running in a pared-down configuration with only a pair of active cores, and the DDR4 memory was working in single-channel mode with a single 8 GB stick and highly relaxed timings of 31-63-6363-2. While this isn't usable in your regular machine, that's not the point of these extreme overclocking feats, anyway. The goal is to showcase component quality and stability whilst working way beyond specifications.

MSI is among the motherboard manufacturers who had to significantly modify their UEFI firmware packages to cram in AGESA ComboAM4 1.0.0.3ab microcode on their AMD 300-series and 400-series chipset motherboards, due to firmware ROM size limitations. Most older MSI AM4 motherboards have 128 Mbit (16 MB) SPI flash ROM chips, which proved insufficient to integrate the latest AGESA microcode alongside its feature-rich ClickBIOS 5 UEFI setup program. MSI addressed the issue on two fronts. For its existing motherboards that have 128 Mb flash chips, it released BIOS updates that have AGESA 1.0.0.3ab, but shed some bulk on the setup program, by replacing ClickBIOS 5 with the "GSE-lite" setup program. The company is also releasing newer revisions of many of its AMD B450 chipset motherboards anticipating demand from the section of 3rd gen Ryzen buyers who don't want to spend at least $170 on an AMD X570 motherboard.

These revised motherboards feature "MAX" in the name, and come with 256 Mb (32-megabyte) SPI flash ROM chips, enabling MSI to combine AGESA ComboAM4 1.0.0.3ab with ClickBIOS 5, and not compromising on any of the motherboard's BIOS-level feature-set. These motherboards also come with out-of-the-box support for all of the 3rd generation Ryzen processors launched so far, as indicated on the box. The boards also retain support for A-series "Bristol Ridge" and "Raven Ridge" Athlon APUs that had faced the axe with the latest BIOS updates. The B450 Tomahawk MAX and Mortar MAX are characterized by matte-black heatsinks replacing silver; while the B450-A PRO MAX has the "MAX" logo clearly printed on the VRM heatsink. Pricing of these boards are expected to be on par with the models they're replacing.

AMD succeeded in delivering on its backwards-compatibility promise for the 3rd generation Ryzen processors on motherboards based on AMD 300-series and 400-series chipsets. This promise was very close to being derailed suggests a community thread on MSI forums. According to MSI representatives active on the forum, the capacity of the SPI flash EEPROM chip that stores the motherboard UEFI firmware is woefully limited to cram in the AGESA ComboAM4 1.0.0.3a microcode on many of its motherboards.

The company had to make several changes to its UEFI BIOS package that's currently being circulated as a "beta," to accommodate support for 3rd generation Ryzen processors along with AGESA ComboAM4 1.0.0.3a. First, it had to kick out support for A-series and Athlon processors based on the 28 nm "Bristol Ridge" silicon. Second, it had to [and this is a big one], kick the RAID module, breaking SATA RAID on many of its motherboards. Third, it had to replace its feature-rich Click BIOS 5 setup program with a barebones "GSE Lite" Click BIOS program, which lacks many of the features of the original program, and comes with a dull, low-resolution UI. This program still includes some essential MSI-exclusive features such as A-XMP (which translates Intel XMP profiles to AMD-compatible settings), Smart Fan, and M-Flash.

While the reviews of Radeon RX 5700 and 5700 XT have been published, there were no confirmations or signs of custom designs from AMD's partners of any kind. However, Hardwareluxx, a German tech media, has acquired some slides from MSI about its upcoming line of Navi GPUs. There will be a total of 7 new models, four being RX 5700 XT variants and three for RX 5700. Surprise here is the new branding series for those GPUs. The MECH series is a rebrand of previous Armor series, now with different red and black color combination. Notable addition to design is inclusion of DVI port. Unlike before, we will now get a so called "EVOKE" series, which we don't have details on yet. All we know is that the new cards supposed to arrive with all the custom cards in August.

MSI released one of first low-profile (half-height) graphics cards based on the GeForce GTX 1650. The card uses a monolithic aluminium heatsink that's ventilated by two 60 mm fans. Although there's just one row of display outputs, the cooler is over 1 slot thick, and so you get dual-slot I/O shields for both full-height and half-height (low-profile). The card relies on the PCI-Express 3.0 x16 slot for all its power, and sticks to NVIDIA-reference clock speeds of 1665 MHz boost, and 8.00 GHz (GDDR5-effective) memory. Based on the 12 nm "TU117" silicon, the GeForce GTX 1650 features 896 "Turing" CUDA cores, 56 TMUs, 32 ROPs, and a 128-bit wide GDDR5 memory interface, holding 4 GB of memory. Display outputs on this MSI low-profile card surprisingly lack DisplayPort, you only get an HDMI 2.0b, and a dual-link DVI-D (lacks analog D-Sub pins).

Last week, we brought you an exclusive report of an ASUS AMD X570 motherboard price-list leak that foretells a $50-150 average price increase over launch-prices of motherboards based on the previous-generation AMD X470 chipset. European PC component price aggregator Geizhals has a partial list of X570 motherboards by another major manufacturer, MSI. It must be noted here, that while the ASUS price-list was for day-one retail prices, these prices of MSI boards are early listings, and could be marked-up by the retailer.
