be quiet! Announces Straight Power 11 Platinum PSU Series

be quiet!, the market leader in PC power supplies in Germany since 2007, is expanding the company's most silent power supply series with 80 PLUS Platinum-certified models. In addition to the increased efficiency, Straight Power 11 Platinum power supplies will include a state-of-the-art and high-quality topology, additional connection options, and models from 550 up to 1,200 watts. The base characteristics remain untouched, such as the whisper-quiet operation, exemplary cooling concept, and wire-free interior.

All models of the Straight Power 11 Platinum series have been awarded the 80 PLUS Platinum certification and offer an efficiency of up to 94.1 percent at 230 V input. Thanks to an active PFC, the power factor is a maximum of 0.99, and the power supplies meet the ErP standard with less than 0.16 watts consumption in standby mode, ensuring lower energy consumption, better cooling and low noise levels.

Silverstone at CES 2020: Cases, PSUs, and Accessories Galore

Silverstone at CES 2020 took the opportunity to showcase selections of their portfolio for the media, ranging from PC cases in major form-factors, PSUs, and a range of "ease-of-life" and aesthetic-driven accessories. Accessory-wise, there's a range of SSD-related products, such as the MS09 stick, which allows conversion of an M.2 SSD to what basically amounts to a USB 3.1 pen drive; other products in this category include the MS09-Mini and the MS11, which improves support for the NVMe protocol. The ECM26 is a PCIe adapter for M.2 sticks, while the Silverstone TP02-M2 presents itself as a heatsink for installation on non-passive-cooled M.2 SSDs.

Continuing the SSD accessories galore, there are a number of other solutions, including a tool-less NMVe to PCIe adapter (ECM21-E), an ARGB powered one (ECM24-ARGB, which includes a heatsink), a simpler, non-ARGB one with a heatsink (ECM23), and my personal favorite, a docking station for a barebones M.2 drive you may have around, in the form of the TS16 station. The presence of a Power button very surely means this can't be hot-swapped - the risk of data-loss is real.

This reduced the need to purchase large amounts of customized PSUs and keep stock waiting to be sold.

FSP's FlexGURU Flex ATX's modular design with slim ribbon cables allows for easier set up, reducing cable clutter and improves airflow efficiency. Users only need to install the minimum number of cables required for their own system. Modular connectors allow users to efficiently move cables, and reduce debugging time for a better experience. This also gives users the flexibility to replace the PSU without the hassle of disconnecting every cable from the PC. FSP has created a universal bracket that fits into two different orientations for quick installation into any chassis. The mounting holes and auxiliary bracket are designed to ensure the FlexGURU series is compatible with 99 percent of Flex-ATX PC chassis on the market.

Intel Releases ModernFW as Open Source, minimal Firmware Replacement

Today Intel announced ModernFW - an experimental approach to building a minimum viable platform firmware for machines such as cloud server platforms. The reason for this software is that, while traditional PC Firmware has evolved over time and retained its backward compatibility, it has become very big and often inefficient.

So to meet the requirements of new platforms that need to be built quickly and adapted easily, Intel decided to offer a new software package that will help with that. The new firmware package targets x86_64 from ISA standpoint and Linux kernel based OSes.

Be Quiet! Announces Straight Power 11 Modular PSU Series

be quiet!, the market leader in PC power supplies in Germany for eleven consecutive years, announces its latest, most silent power supply, Straight Power 11. With its completely redesigned PCB, wire-free design on the DC side, an expanded power range with models up to 1,000 watts, and a modern topology using high-quality components, Straight Power 11 is a worthy successor to be quiet!'s premium power supply series.

The Straight Power 11 series uses be quiet!'s renowned Silent Wings 3 135 mm fan with a funnel-shaped vent that simultaneously provides excellent airflow and reduces unwanted turbulence. A 6-pole motor and fluid-dynamic bearings create both an extremely low noise level and the lowest startup rotational speed in the market - under 200 revolutions per minute. This fan is extremely silent, making semi-passive solutions unnecessary and ensuring constant cooling at a low noise level. Since fans are not the only source of noise in a power supply, high-quality capacitors are used to prevent high-frequency electronic noise emission and noise induced by extreme load changes (like, for example, from modern graphics cards) is also minimized.

SilverStone Intros Essential Gold Series Power Supplies

Also, unlike the other models, the Essential Gold Series offers partially modular cabling, and as the name suggests, 80 Plus Gold-rated efficiency (the others are 80 Plus Bronze).

The PSUs feature single +12V rail designs. Other internal features include active-PFC, and protection against over/under-voltage, overload, overheat, and short-circuit. All cables, including the fixed ones, are flat ribbon-type. The other fixed cables include 4+4 pin EPS, and two 6+2 pin PCIe power. Modular cables include two additional 6+2 pin PCIe power on the 650W and 750W models, nine SATA power, three 4-pin Molex, and one 4-pin Berg.
