Gigabyte introduced one of the first mini-ITX motherboards based on Intel's new quad-core Celeron J1900 SoC, the J1900N-D3V. The chip integrates a quad-core x86-64 CPU clocked at 2.00 GHz. BIOSTAR has released their newest micro-ATX motherboard based on the Intel H81 chipset, the H81MLC. The board supports Intel 4th generation Core i7 and Core i5 processors. It features Intel single chip architecture with HD 4600 Graphics, along with a new integrated memory controller that will run at speeds up to 1600 MHz. The H81 chipset has two SATA 6 Gb/s ports (plus four SATA 3Gb/s ports), and two USB 3.0 headers.

The H81MLC supports two DIMMs for a maximum of 16 Gigs of RAM. The H81MLC is a great option for small form factor systems where you rarely have more than one discrete card and two SATA drives. MSI rolled out the H81M-E35 V2 entry-level socket LGA1150 motherboard. Designed for Core "Haswell" processors, the board draws power from a combination of 24-pin ATX and 4-pin ATX power connectors. MSI will soon be rolling out a new mini ITX motherboard, a model called J1800I that makes use of Military Class 4 components for ' record-breaking stability' and comes equipped with a Bay Trail-D processor, more specifically, the 2.4 GHz dual-core Celeron J1800. The chip has a maximum TDP of 10 W so MSI added only an aluminum heatsink for cooling.

The J1800I also features two DDR3-1333 SO-DIMM slots (for up to 8 GB of memory), two SATA 3.0 Gbps ports, one PCIe x1 slot, Gigabit Ethernet, 7.1 channel audio, one USB 3.0 port, and D-Sub, DVI and HDMI output. The board is available for pre-order for 74.15 Euro.

Intel is expected to launch its refreshed Core "Haswell" processor lineup in the second quarter of 2014 (between April and June), beating its Computex 2014 anticipated launch window. Motherboard vendors will launch their products based on Intel's new Z97 Express and H97 Express chipsets by the end of April. The products will have reached retail channels worldwide by May.

Intel will release as many as 20 new SKUs spanning its Core i7, Core i5, Core i3, and Pentium brands, including the Core i7-4790, Core i5-4690, Core i5-4590, Core i3-4360, Pentium G3450, and Celeron G1840. Among the low-power SKUs are the Core i7-4790S, Core i5-4590S, and Core i3-4150T. The overclockers among you may want to hold out until Computex (June), because it's only then that Intel is expected to launch the Core i7-4790K and Core i5-4690K, which come with unlocked base-clock multipliers. These chips should be compatible with current socket LGA1150 motherboards, with a BIOS update. Intel's Core i7 "Haswell-E" HEDT platform could also launch around that time. Q2~Q3 promises to be a hectic time of the year for motherboard makers once again.

MSI rolled out the 760GMA-P34FX, a cost-effective socket AM3+ motherboard in the micro-ATX form-factor, designed with out of the box support for AMD FX "Vishera" processors. Based on the dated AMD 760 chipset with SB710 southbridge, the motherboard still offers modern connectivity, such as SATA 6 Gb/s and USB 3.0, but using third-party controllers.

Drawing power from a combination of 24-pin ATX and 4-pin CPU power connectors, the 760GMA-P34FX offers two DDR3 DIMM slots, supporting up to 16 GB of dual-channel DDR3 memory. A PCI-Express 2.0 x16, a PCI-Express 2.0 x1, and a legacy PCI slot make up its expansion area. Storage connectivity includes six SATA 3 Gb/s ports (from the SB710 southbridge), and two SATA 6 Gb/s ports (from an ASMedia ASM1061 controller). The board offers four USB 3.0 ports, two on the rear panel, two by headers. 6-channel HD audio, and gigabit Ethernet make for the rest of the connectivity. Expect this one to be light on your wallet.
