Akasa's Cypher X133 is a Premium Custom Chassis for Intel's NUC 13 Extreme

Akasa might be the most well known third party housing manufacturer for Intel's NUC series of devices, most of which offer passive cooling and full aluminium construction. At Computex, Akasa was showing off its Cypher X133 which the company has been selling to system integrators for some time already, but there hasn't been a public announcement. The reason for keeping this product on the low is because it's using a low profile, server grade liquid cooling solution which takes some skill to install in the compact chassis. That said, the entire internals slide out on rails, which should make most parts much easier to access than in a typical chassis this size.

Even though it's a compact chassis, it can house an NVIDIA RTX 4090 graphics card, in addition to the NUC 13 Extreme, which is no small feat. That said, the width limit sits at 3.9 slots for the GPU, so some custom models with wider coolers might not work. The chassis is very much a premium product with a very nice finish that is easily comparable to high-end notebooks. Hopefully Akasa will figure out a way to make a more DIY friendly version of this chassis, although it's possible that the price tag will be too high for this to make sense as a DIY build.

Intel Readies the NUC 13 Rugged "Bravo Canyon" for Factory Floors and Digital Signage

Intel is preparing to expand its NUC mini-PC product line into the rugged industrial PC and signage PC segments with the NUC 13 Rugged. The PC has an operational ambient temperature range of 0°C to 50°C, making them fit for industrial PC (IPC), and digital signage use-cases.

The chassis has several features relevant to its specific form-factor that allow it to be deployed in the field over extended periods. The NUC 13 Rugged comes in three SoC options—Atom x7425E, x7211E, and N50, all three of which feature 6 W to 12 W TDP, and IPUs (infrastructure processing units). You also get a DDR5-4800 SO-DIMM slot, and connectivity that includes dual 2.5 GbE wired LAN, Wi-Fi 6E, 64 GB eMMC storage, an M.2-2280 NVMe slot, and provision for a 4G/5G MODEM. Intel is backing these with 3-year warranties, and assures market availability of 5 years (so companies planning large-scale deployments of these have a stable supply over that period).

Intel Previews NUC 13 Extreme With Space for a Triple Slot GPU

We've been aware of Intel's upcoming NUC 13 Extreme—codenamed Raptor Canyon—since July this year, with the compute element module having leaked back in August. Now Intel has previewed the NUC 13 Extreme at TwitchCon and we have a better idea what the biggest NUC to date will look like. The chassis has a volume of no less than 13.9 litres, which is bigger than many Mini-ITX cases. The main reason for this is that the NUC 13 Extreme has enough space for a triple slot GPU, although if you're hoping to put a GeForce RTX 4090 inside, then you're out of luck, as it seems to be limited to the length of an RTX 3080 or thereabout. The compute modul appears to have changed somewhat from the early leak, or it's possible it just wasn't a very good render.

As we've known, Intel will be kitting out the NUC 13 Extreme with a range of CPU options and it was confirmed during the stream that it'll handle a "full" Core i9K without specifying which model. The Intel rep mentioned a highly optimised heatsink, which appears to be something along the lines of a modified GPU cooler with a blower cooler. This is because the compute module is largely the same shape and size as a graphics card. The chassis itself looks like a bit of a nightmare to deal with, as it has a lot of removable parts to allow access to the innards of the NUC 13 Extreme. The compute module has to be installed at an angle, or it won't fit inside the chassis, whereas the graphics card looks relatively easy to install. You can find the full video in the link below and it starts just past the four hour mark.
