Global SSD Shipments Down 10.7% YoY to 114 Million Units in 2022

TrendForce has issued its latest findings, indicating that the global SSD market has rectified its supply and demand dynamics in 2022, following a resolution in the shortage of master control ICs that had hampered the market in 2021. Despite the normalization of supply, global SSD shipments witnessed a decline, with only 114 million units shipped in 2022—a 10.7% decrease from the prior year.

The top three SSD shipment leaders of 2022 were Kingston, ADATA, and Lexar, with Kingston and ADATA maintaining solid advantages and experiencing growth in market share over 2021. Lexar's growth was attributed to an aggressive push for revenue in anticipation of going public. Kimtigo, in 2022, made significant strides in expanding into industrial control and OEM markets, which in turn boosted its shipment volume and market share. Netac maintained its competitive edge in the SSD market alongside securing several government orders in the enterprise SSD sector, keeping its market share and ranking consistent with the previous year.

Netac Launches Hurricane Z RGB Series DDR5 Memory with Speeds of Up to DDR5-8000

Netac on Wednesday launched the Hurricane Z RGB line of premium DDR5 memory kits. These are characterized by their chunky aluminium heatspreaders that have a clear chrome finish (claimed to be silver-plated), and crowned by silicone addressable-RGB LED diffusers. The company released dual-channel (two module) kits with densities of 32 GB (2x 16 GB), across six speed-based variants.

At the very top is a DDR5-8000 variant with 38-48-48-128 timings and 1.5 V module voltage; followed by a DDR5-7600 variant that offers 36-46-46-122 timings at 1.4 V. A notch below is the DDR5-7200 variant with 34-45-45-115 timings and 1.4 V; followed by a DDR5-6600 variant with slightly tighter 34-40-40-105 timings at the same 1.4 V. The DDR5-6200 variant offers a tighter 32-38-38-96 timings at 1.35 V, while the series begins with a DDR5-6000 variant with 36-36-36-96 timings at 1.35 V. All six variants rely on XMP 3.0 profiles to enable their advertised speeds and timings. Under the hood, these modules are using SK hynix-sourced DRAM chips. Netac released the Hurricane Z RGB series in China first, where its prices range between the equivalent of $203 and $335, depending on the model.

Netac Rolls Out NV5000-t M.2 NVMe Gen4 SSD

Netac over the weekend released the NV5000-t, an M.2 NVMe SSD that takes advantage of the PCI-Express 4.0 x4 host interface, offering mid-range performance. Available in 500 GB and 1 TB capacities, the drive uses an unspecified type of 3D NAND flash memory, and a DRAMless controller design. On offer, are sequential transfer rates of up to 4800 MB/s reads, with up to 4600 MB/s writes for the 1 TB variant. The 500 GB variant writes sequentially at speeds of up to 2700 MB/s, but with the same up to 4800 MB/s reads. The 1 TB variant offers endurance of 640 TBW, while the 500 GB variant does 320 TBW. Both models are backed by 5-year warranties. The company didn't reveal pricing.

Netac Announces Shadow II DDR5 Memory Series

Netac officially announced its release of Shadow II DDR 5 memory. Since the end of 2021, DDR5-related topics have maintained a high level of popularity. The first reason is that the market has been looking forward to new productivity tools for a long time. Second, compared with the previous generation, DDR5 has a revolutionary improvement in both appearance and performance, such as doubling the frequency and starting at 4800 MHz; Integrated PMIC power management chip, the voltage reduces to 1.1 V, and the power consumption is lower; On-die ECC error correction function is added to make the operation more stable.

Besides the first-line brands, Netac, an established storage manufacturer, is also actively deploying this field. Netac introduces the memory of Shadow II DDR 5 after Shadow RGB DDR5. Like Shadow Series, Shadow II DDR 5 is also positioned in the middle and high end, but without RGB lighting function. In terms of parameters, the frequency specification of 4800 MHz will be launched soon, and 8/16/32 GB*2 high-capacity strap specifications will be available, with a latency of 40-40-77 and a voltage of 1.1 V. Netac said that high-frequency specifications such as 5600 MHz and 6200 MHz will be launched in the future.

Netac Announces Four New NVMe SSDs

Netac has recently announced four new NVMe SSDs aimed at various market segments with the NV7000, NV5000, NV3000 RGB, and NV3000. The NV7000 is a flagship PCIe 4.0 drive featuring a composite aluminium alloy fin heatsink design and boasting sequential read and write speeds of 7200 MB/s and 6850 MB/s, respectively. The flagship SSD also features random read/write speeds of 940K and 1000K IOPS and is offered in 1 TB, 2 TB, and 4 TB configurations. The NV500 is another PCIe 4.0 drive with lower performance coming in at 5000 MB/s and 4400 MB/s for sequential read/write and will be available in 500 GB, 1 TB, and 2 TB capacities.

The NV3000 RGB is a PCIe 3.0 NVMe SSD featuring an ARGB heatsink compatible with all mainstream motherboard lighting ecosystems. The drive is equipped with an independent DRAM cache allowing it to reach sequential read speeds of 3500 MB/s and sequential write speeds of 2100 MB/s and will also be offered in 500 GB, 1 TB, and 2 TB models. The NV3000 features reduced performance than its RGB counterpart with max speeds of 3100 MB/s and 2100 MB/s and is only available in 250 GB, 500 GB, and 1 TB sizes.

Netac DDR5 Memory Officially Launched

Netac DDR5 memory will be officially launched for gamers after the release of the 12th generation processor supporting for PCIe Gen5 and DDR5 memories with the introduction of big. LITTLE mixed architecture on the desktop platform and the first 10 nm Enhanced SuperFin process. The DDR5 memory launched this time is one of the Basic Series products, which is designed with the concept -- the first memory for every ordinary dream chaser. Netac hopes to bring a purer and broader world to every user with its excellent performance.

Currently, DDR4 has the initial capacity of 4 GB, while that of the Netac Basic Series DDR5 is 16 GB with the maximum capacity of 128 GB. As for frequency, the supported range is 4800 MHz to 8400 MHz. In addition, the operating voltage is lowered to 1.1 V, ensuring better power efficiency with high performance.

Netac Kickstarts Research and Development Process for 10 GHz DDR5 Memory

Netac, a Chinese company based in Shenzen claiming to be the inventor of USB flash drive, has reportedly started the research and development process of DDR5 memory modules that will outperform everything on the market. Netac is rumored to have started the development of DDR5 memory that will have a frequency of over 10,000 MHz. While the JEDEC specification notes that the DDR5 frequency range is between 4800-8400 MHz, manufacturers are always welcome to go over the official specifications. Being that Netac is a relatively new player in the PC memory space, we are wondering how the company plans to execute its plans.

A 10 GHz DDR5 memory would require a very high voltage to run, meaning high heat output. We know that DDR5 chips can run at 2.6 V, according to T-FORCE, who tested such a configuration earlier. The next potential problem would be a platform that could handle 10 GHz DDR5 memory, however, by the time we get this memory in our hands, platforms will mature enough to handle high-speed RAM. The first batch of new DDR5 memory that was sent to Netac was Micron's Z9ZSB modules, which are 2Gx8, CL40 memory modules. They are manufactured in the 1znm memory manufacturing node Micron uses. It is left to be seen what we end up with and if Netac delivers on its promise.
