EIZO Corporation today announced the release of the FlexScan EV2760, a 27-inch, WQHD (2560 x 1440) monitor with a frameless design for business environments such as trading rooms, back offices, and control rooms. It contributes to higher work efficiency and a smaller eco footprint for sustainable development, which are globally discussed topics.

The FlexScan EV2760 uses a 27-inch LCD panel with 2560 x 1440 native resolution. It implements LED-backlit IPS (in-plane switching) panel technology with 178° wide viewing angles. The typical brightness is 350 cd/m² and the contrast ratio is 1000:1.

AOC today launched two new interestingly specced and priced monitors. The CQ27G2U and Q27G2U are basically the same monitor with only one distinguishing feature: the CQ27G2U features a 1500R curved panel while the Q27G2U is a flat panel monitor. Apart from that, specs are identical between the two. There's a 27" VA panel with 2560 x 1440 (QHD) resolution; 144 Hz refresh rate and 1 ms response time. there's FreeSync support, albeit in a limited range of 48 Hz through 144 Hz, so these monitors won't really help you keep fluidity in lower frames per second.

Maximum brightness of the panels is pretty low at 250 nits, and color coverage is good enough for office work or gaming at 120% sRGB, 90% Adobe RGB and 85% NTSC coverage. Being a VA panel, contrast ratio stands at a respectable 3000:1. I/O is taken care of by 2x HDMI 2.0, 1x DisplayPort 1.2, and there's also a 4x USB 3.0 hub, Headphone out and 2x 2 W speakers also make an appearance. The non-curved Q27G2U will be available for $299, while its curved sibling, the CQ27G2U, will retail for $20 more at $319.

Lenovo has announced a duo of new gaming monitors soon to be available. Starting with the biggest one in the family, the Lenovo G32qc features a 31.5" diagonal with NearEdgeless technology (a good name compared to all the other bezeless presentations that aren't - not really) and QHD (2560 x 1440) resolution. The VA panel features a 1500R curvature so that all points of the screen are at the same distance to your center of vision. The 144 Hz refresh rate is FreeSync-enabled, and the 4 ms response time is nothing to scoff at, while the 72 % NTSC color coverage and 350 cd/m² maximum brightness are pretty standard. The monitor further features TÜV Rheinland Low Blue Light and flicker-free certifications. I/O is taken care of by 1x DP 1.2 and 1x HDMI 2.0, and the stand features lift and tilt adjustments.

The G27c doesn't take many of its bigger sibling's features (it's more akin to a distant cousin). The 27" diagonal features a 1080p VA panel with the same NearEdgeless technology and 1500R curvature. Refresh rates, however, climb up to 165 Hz (whilst keeping the 4 ms response time) with FreeSync support. The 72 % NTSC color coverage and 350 cd/m² maximum brightness remain, as do features like TÜV Rheinland Low Blue Light and flicker-free certifications. The stand is adjustable in the 130 mm lift range and -5°/22° tilt angle. I/O is still taken care of by 1x DP 1.2 and 1x HDMI 2.0.

It's finally here: a high-end PCI-Express gen 4.0 M.2 NVMe SSD by Samsung, made end-to-end by homebrew components. When it releases sometime later this year with a possible technical reveal in Q2, the SSD 980 will be possibly the only client-segment M.2 NVMe PCIe gen 4 SSD to feature MLC (2 bits per cell) NAND flash memory. This also means that the highest capacity on offer is just 1 TB. The company also put out sequential transfer rates: up to 6,500 MB/s reads, with up to 5,000 MB/s writes. The biggest payoffs of MLC would be sustained write performance and endurance (in its capacity class, compared to TLC and QLC).

Next up, is the Portable SSD T7 Touch, a successor to the T5 from 2017. This drive comes in an in-built fingerprint reader, letting you secure its data with your fingerprints. The drive is also a much needed update to the T5, which still uses 64-layer TLC NAND; and possibly uses the latest generation 96-layer V-NAND. The drive is built with an aluminium case that's drop-resistant up to 2 m. A single USB 3.2 connection handles power and data. The drive includes type-C to type-C and type-C to type-A cables, and will be compatible not just with PCs, but also Samsung Galaxy smartphones and tablets.

MSI today unveiled the Optix MAG272QR, a 27-inch fast gaming monitor. Slotted in the company's Arsenal Gaming family, the MAG272QR features a VA panel with WQHD (2560 x 1440 pixels) resolution, 165 Hz refresh-rate, 1 ms (GTG) response-time, AMD FreeSync support, and 95.6% DCI-P3 coverage. Other key panel specs include 10 bpc color (1.07 billion colors), 178°/178° viewing-angles, 300 cd/m² maximum brightness, and dynamic mega-contrast ratio, besides 3000:1 static contrast.

The Optix MAG272QR features a stand that lets you adjust height, 90° rotation to portrait mode, ±75° swivel, and 5-20° tilt. Behind the monitor are RGB LED embellishments that you control with MSI Mystic Light RGB app, and can also configure as mood-light. Display inputs include USB-C (DisplayPort TMDS passthrough), standard DisplayPort 1.2a, and two HDMI 2.0b inputs; all of which support the monitor's full 1440p resolution. Using HDMI 2.0b caps the refresh-rate to 144 Hz. Available now, the Optix MAG272QR is priced at USD $350.

BenQ today announced the release of the EX2780Q monitor, a 27" affair sporting a WQHD (2560 x 1440) resolution across its 10-bit IPS matrix (95% DCI-P3 color space coverage). The monitor offers an 144 Hz refresh rate which, when paired with the usage of AMD's FreeSync, should enable smooth gaming scenarios - though the 5 ms GtG response time gives us a whole lot of pause. The resolution is a good compromise one between 1080p and 4K when it comes to graphics muscle requirements, and should thus make the 144 Hz refresh rates actually attainable in most scenarios (something that just wouldn't happen in a 4K screen).

One of the things about this monitor, however, is the inclusion of an "HDRi" badge, which simply denotes the usage of some of BenQ's proprietary technologies - Visual Edge, Black eQualizer and Color Vibrance - essentially auto-adjustable screen brightness, some sort of proprietary implementation of dynamic contrast, and automatic color balance adjustments. The EX2780Q includes a remote control that allows on-the-fly changes on some of the settings; and I/O is taken care of by 2x HDMI 2.0, 1x DisplayPort, 1x USB-C, and a headphone port. The sound system in this monitor has been upgraded compared to others - it offers a built-in 2.1 setup of treVolo speakers (2x2 watts + 5 watts subwoofer). Pricing stands at $599.

ViewSonic announced new additions to the ELITE gaming portfolio. The company is expanding its gaming line-up with the ELITE XG27 gaming monitor series, XG05 gaming monitor series, ELITE Ally monitor control peripheral, and two new software applications. The new gaming products and software provide the ultimate experience for multifaceted gamers while fulfilling a variety of setups and lifestyles.

AOC has partnered with Studio F.A. Porsche to bring a duo of monitors to market, bridging the gap between AOC's expertise and Porsche's design capabilities. The partnership has resulted in two monitors: the U32U1, which features a large, 31.5" diagonal, and the Q27T1, which sees a smaller 27" footprint. The change in size brings a change in resolution as well, with the U32U1 featuring a 4K resolution, while its 27" sibling does with a QHD resolution (2560 x 1440). AOC today introduced what might be one of the most compelling arguments for a monitor upgrade I've ever seen in their CQ32G1 monitor. This seemingly checks all the boxes for either an AMD or NVIDIA (now that G-Sync has been opened up to FreeSync) users. The 31,5" VA, 1700R curved panel promises better image quality and color accuracy than a TN alternative, while the 2560 x 1440 resolution means there are a number of graphics cards that can run the latest games with above 60 FPS performance - and is a sweetspot resolution for those delicious, if rare, RTX effects. The 1 ms response time and 144 Hz refresh rate guarantee that users who want an even more fluid feel and pack serious graphics cards can do so on the cheap as well.

Sadly, the monitor doesn't support HDR content (maximum 300 cd/m² brightness), but for the price, I'd say users can't really complain about that. There's a 3000:1 static contrast ratio and 124% sRGB coverage; there are some AOC-exclusive technologies (such as Flicker-Free technology, LowBlue Mode, grey level control with AOC's Game Color, and AOC Dial). Image input is taken care of by 1x HDMI 2.0, 1x HDMI 1.4, and 1x DisplayPort 1.2. Cut corners include ergonomic capabilities (the stand only tilts (-4° ~ +21.5°).

LG has announced another bang-for-buck entry in their monitor line-up, which is usually one of the best in the specs-pricing department. For the modest amount of $349, the 32QK500-W is a 31,5" affair with a QHD (2560*1440) resolution, which supports AMD's FreeSync technology for synchronized refresh rates and greater fluidity in gaming. There's an 8-bit + FRC IPS panel, with a minimum 250 cd/m² brightness (300 typical), which isn't much, but should be enough to be used in a not-too-bright room.

Of course, some of the panel's specifications do point towards the cost-cutting that needed to be done in order to get it to this price-point; the brightness isn't anything to go by (not even close), the FreeSync support tops out at a maximum of 75 Hz, and the 8 ms response time is enough for casual gaming, but not for cutthroat competitive gaming. Some LG technologies such as Black Stabilizer, Crosshairs, and Reading Mode are available. Output connectors stand at 2x HDMI, 1x DisplayPort, and 1x MiniDP, with an additional headphone jack. The monitor is VESA wall-mountable.

Samsung Electronics unveiled its new CJG5 curved gaming monitor at Gamescom 2018, held from August 21 to 25. Samsung is exhibiting its advanced gaming monitor line-up equipped with super ultra-wide CHG90 experience zone under the theme, "Wider View. Winning Play." Held in Cologne, Germany, Gamescom is one of the world's largest gaming trade shows that attracted more than 350 thousand visitors from more than 50 countries, last year alone.

Display specialist AOC announces the Q3279VWFD8, a sibling to the 31.5" Q3279VWF, a superb allrounder from the well-received 79 series, which debuted last autumn and received huge appraisal for its extraordinary price/performance ratio. The new monitor, Q3279VWFD8 uses a different panel type - IPS - rather than the VA panel used in its older brother and boasts a wider colour gamut for increased colour accuracy and therefore more vivid, natural and eye-catching imagery. The Q3279VWFD8's 31.5" IPS panel offers a highly detailed QHD resolution (2560x1440 pixels), 5 ms GtG response time, AMD FreeSync support and 75 Hz refresh rate. Aimed at particularly budget conscious home power users, internet cafés and everyone who is after jaw-dropping specs without breaking the bank are going to be well-served with the Q3279VWFD8.

German site Prad.de reports that sources close to monitor panel manufacturers told them that the production cost of a 27" 4K 3840x2160 panel is lower or at least equal to that of a 27" 2560x1440 QHD panel. This drives monitor manufacturers to use 4K panels in monitors that are specified as QHD - when panel supply is low, or monitor demand is high.

The sources did not mention any specific monitor manufacturer or model, but it's highly probable that some 1440p monitors in the hands of customers today use a 4K panel. Obviously you're not gonna get 4K resolution when paying for a QHD monitor. Rather the panel firmware is configured to report its maximum capability as 1440p, and internally scale the input signal accordingly, which may result in reduced image quality.

The emerging importance of USB-C

Philips today launched their newest QHD (2560 x 1440) monitor, the 272B8QJEB. It's a pretty run-of-the-mill affair, with an IPS panel, and support for low blue light and flicker-free technologies. When it comes to gaming, this monitor won't offer much: its 5 ms grey-to-grey response time, lack of any variable refresh rate technology make sure of that. Even in the luminance department this monitor fails to impress: the rated 250 nits don't set world on fire. Where this monitor might come in handy, though, is for professional environments, as it sports a true 10-bit panel with 12-bit source support.

This might be a good alternative for work environments, as it's expected it will go on sale for a relatively competitive pricing, as is the usual Philips way of doing things. There's support for 90 degree pivot, height, and tilt adjustments, and connectivity options are set at 1x VGA, 1x DVI (Dual-Link); 1x DisplayPort 1.2; and 1x HDMI 1.4. There's also a USB hub with 2x USB 3.0 ports (one of which supports Quick-charge functionality) and 2x USB 2.0 ports, with some audio inputs and outputs also thrown in for good measure.

AOC has been making waves with the overall quality and value proposition of each new line of monitors they launch - from the premium to the more budget-conscious offerings. Now, they're introducing a whole new line of monitors that leaves their gaming roots behind in favor of more professional-centric features.

The series will cover the 21.5"-27" range, and panel types will vary between TN and IPS panels according to diagonal and pricing. Starting in the 21.5", the AOC 22P1D is equipped with a 21.5 "TN panel with 1080 screen resolution.
