MSI rolled out its third mobile workstation after the GT series and WS series, the WT series. Styled much like MSI's Gaming series notebooks, the WT series comes in four models, the WT70-20K, the WT70-20L, the WT60-20K 3K IPS, and the WT60-20J. The WT70 duo feature 17.3-inch full-HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) displays, while the WT60 ones feature 15.6-inch displays. A stand-out here is the WT60-20K 3K IPS, which features a 15.6-inch 3K (2880 x 1620 pixels) IPS display. The WT60-20J, on the other hand, features full-HD. All four feature bodies that are clearly inspired from the Gaming series notebooks, featuring illuminated keyboards.

All four models offer 4th generation Intel Core i7 "Haswell" processors, up to 32 GB (four DDR3 SO-DIMM slots) of memory, NVIDIA Quadro K3100M graphics with 4 GB memory on the WT70-20K and WT60-20K 3K IPS; Quadro K4100M graphics with 4 GB memory on the WT70-20L, and Quadro K2100M graphics with 2 GB memory on the WT60-20J. All four offer MSI SuperRAID SSD combinations of 3x 64 GB and 3x 128 GB, and storage HDD options of 750 GB and 1 TB. All four also offer Killer K2000 NIC (which can be used by Qualcomm drivers), and 802.11 ac WLAN. Measuring 428 x 288 x 55 mm (WxHxD), the WT70-20K and WT70-20L weigh 3.9 kg; the WT60-20K 3K IPS and WT60-20J measure 395 mm x 267mm x 55 mm, weighing 3.5 kg.

At a conference in early June, AMD accidentally disclosed its upcoming FirePro W8100 professional graphics card, ahead of its launch. A cut-down of the FirePro W9100, the W8100 is based on the 28 nm "Hawaii" silicon, that's binned for higher durability. It features 2,560 GCN2 stream processors, 160 TMUs, 64 ROPs, and a 512-bit wide GDDR5 memory interface, holding 8 GB of memory. Compare those to the 2,816 SPs and 16 GB memory of the W9100. The core on the W8100 is clocked at 825 MHz, at which, it puts out single-precision floating point performance of 4.2 TFLOP/s. The dual-slot card is built on a red PCB that's unlike anything AMD built Radeon brand cards out of. It draws power from two 6-pin PCIe power connectors, is shorter in length than the consumer R9 290 reference board, and features a back-plate, to cool memory chips on the reverse side of the PCB. The card supports DirectX 11.2, OpenGL 4.4, and Mantle. It will likely be positioned against NVIDIA's Quadro K5000, at the US $2,500 range. It will also be one of the GPU options in Dell's Precision T7800 workstations.

Last week we had reported that Dell is working on a new power-packed mobile workstation dubbed the Precision M3800. At SIGGRAPH, Dell will take the wraps off their next-generation portable workstation. On their corporate blog, the company confirmed much of the rumored specifications which include:

• 16GB RAM
• QHD+ (3,200 x 1,800) multi-touch display
• 1TB HDD, or 512GB SSD

Despite being loaded to the brim, the Dell Precision M3800 will compress everything into a 0.7" thick body, which weighs in at 4.5 pounds. There's still no word on the pricing, but that should slip out soon. Whatever it'll be, it sure won't be cheap.

NVIDIA may decisively hold on to the single-GPU performance lead, with its GeForce GTX Titan graphics card, but at roughly $1000, it could attract a very small market. Similar in specifications to the fabled Quadro K6000, the new SKU could feature 13 out of 15 streaming multiprocessors on the GK110 silicon, working out to 2,496 CUDA cores, 208 texture memory units, a 320-bit wide GDDR5 memory interface holding 5 GB of memory, and 40 ROPs. Given that there's a deep ravine between the ~$450 GeForce GTX 680 and ~$1000 GTX Titan, NVIDIA could pick a price-point in the middle. The report claims the new SKU could launch some time between July and August, 2013.

The configuration could be just about enough for 1 TFLOP/s double-precision floating-point performance, and could hence offer an upgrade over Fermi-based Quadro 6000.
