NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090 Founders Edition Hands On, Taken Apart

At the 2025 International CES, we went hands on with the new NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090 Founders Edition "Blackwell" graphics card. This thing is huge—longer and taller than the RTX 4090 FE, and yet just 2 slots thick. This is because NVIDIA's designers have figured out that the heat dissipation area of the heatsink lost to thinning the card can be recovered by stretching it in other directions. The card retains the essential aesthetic of Founders Edition cards from the past two generations going back to the RTX 30-series, but changes the concept of the dual-axial flow-through.

While past generations used an intake fan on one side, blowing onto the PCB, and another fan at the tail end of the backplate pull air through the heatsink and out the back, the RTX 5090 FE has two large fans, both of which blow cold air through the heatsink, and out the back of the card. The PCB is located in the center of the card, and relies on a set of breakout PCBs for host interface and display outputs.

And The Witcher IV will feature the latest RTX-powered technologies. Additionally, DOOM: The Dark Ages will include immersive path-traced effects. Alan Wake 2 is upgrading its already-incredible engine with our new NVIDIA RTX Mega Geometry technology, in addition to DLSS 4. And Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is adding support for DLSS Multi Frame Generation and Ray Reconstruction, with support for our new RTX Hair technology coming in a future update. For games that haven't updated yet to the latest DLSS models and features, NVIDIA app will enable support through a new DLSS Override feature.

ZOTAC Shows Full GeForce RTX 50 Series Lineup at CES 2025, Updating the Design and Bringing New Features

ZOTAC unveiled its full lineup of NVIDIA GeForce RTX 50 series graphics cards at CES 2025, including the full the new AMP Extreme INFINITY models and the whole new SOLID series of graphics cards. According to ZOTAC, the SOLID series uses cooling technologies derived from the flagship model and represents a high-performance graphics card in a minimalist package. As far as we understood, the SOLID series is meant to be the working horse of Zotac graphics card lineup, offering both performance and durability, while the AMP Extreme INFINITY will be the flagship series with all the bells and whistles. Currently, ZOTAC will offer GeForce RTX 5090, 5080, and 5070 Ti will be offered in the AMP Extreme INFINITY series and SOLID models, while the 5070 products will be offered only in SOLID series.

ZOTAC also turned a new page when it comes to design, breaking away from the traditional design of the graphics card by going for elegance and simplicity, making them more suitable for current trend of "sleek, designer-like premium PCs". With the AMP Extreme INFINITY series, ZOTAC is implementing a die-cast metal backplate with flow-through air channels, Infinity Mirror, and SPECTRA 2.0 ARGB lighting. Both the AMP Extreme INFINITY and the SOLID series will now have rounded corners, as these both look better and take up less space, which could be important to system integrators.

ADATA Cases, Power Supplies, and Cooling Products at 2025 International CES

ADATA tends to save the year's biggest product launches for Computex, but brought a fairly big selection of its latest case, power, and cooling products to the 2025 International CES. Let's begin with power, and the company showed us its new super-compact XPG Pymcore Platinum PSUs. These may look like SFX-L PSUs, but are actually ATX, with a very low depth, and yet full modular cabling. The 120 mm fan cooling the thing is pushed to the very edges of the fan intake. These PSUs meet ATX 3.1 and PCIe 5.1 CEM standards, in fact exceeding them with 235% excursions for 100 µs. As the name suggests, this PSU offers 80 Plus Platinum switching efficiency.

The XPG Starfighter case is one of ADATA's first cases built on the Exoskeleton design language, where the outer body of the case is what provides structural support for the case, rather than an inner chassis. The cuboidal case features a chimney design, where air is drawn at the base, and vented from the top, with all the hot components along the way, and the graphics card installed along its height. At the top is a large 160 mm fan that pulls air. The case supports a Mini-ITX motherboard, and an SFX power supply. ADATA says that the case should support the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090. The demo build at ADATA's booth featured a Palit RTX 4080 SUPER GamingPro, which is a fairly large card.

The TechPowerUp team has sifted through many of MSI's latest and greatest, but also noticed an intriguing set of placards positioned next to the tech firm's vast selection of physical products. The "exclusive" information at hand points to two in-progress GeForce RTX 5090 models—informally named as "Lightning" Special Editions. Company representatives have revealed that the engineering team is concocting a purpose-made PCB design for the two upcoming cards. This board supposedly sports enough differences to distinguish itself from NVIDIA's reference layout (as seen on their Founder's Edition)—industry experts reckon that the majority of AIBs will be utilizing Team Green's standard GeForce RTX 5090 PCB.

The printed graphic indicates that MSI's mysterious liquid cooled Special Edition GeForce RTX 32G will arrive with the "ultimate all-in-one (AIO) water cooling solution"—referred to as their "HydroCool System." A twin STORMFORCE fan configuration is teased alongside advanced airflow channels and a next-gen dual 120 mm AIO liquid cooling system. Custom-engineered water channels are advertised as being capable of flowing "directly through" the card's onboard memory. Dual front intakes and exhausts are said to assist greatly in cooling this Special Edition model, as well as neighboring PC components. At the 2025 International CES, we went hands on with some of the first Schenker XMG enthusiast notebooks that feature a next-generation NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090 Laptop GPU. These include the Schenker Key 18 PRO, and the XMG Neo 16. The Key 18 Pro is a massive portable workstation featuring an 18-inch 16:10 display with either 2560 x 1600 or 3840 x 2400 pixels resolution, with either 500 nits or 400 nits brightness, respectively. The notebook is powered by an Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX processor (8P+16E, 36 MB cache), with four DDR5 SODIMM slots that you can add up to 192 GB of memory to. The star attraction of course is its NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090 Laptop GPU, which is configured with 24 GB of video memory, and 175 W of power. A large 98 Wh battery powers the beast.

Meanwhile, the XMG Neo 16, as its name suggests, has a 16-inch display. This is 16:10, with 2560 x 1600 resolution, comes with 300 Hz refresh rate, and 1000 nits brightness. You get the same combination of a Core Ultra 9 275HX processor and GeForce RTX 5090 Laptop GPU, with the GPU getting 175 W of power. There are two DDR5 CSODIMM slots (SODIMMs with CKD). The company also showed off two of its key innovations that power the two notebooks, its mainboard with a proprietary bridge connector between the motherboard and discrete GPU board; and its two new cooling solutions.

Release dates for other models, including the flagship RTX 5090, have not yet been confirmed. The RTX 5090 is currently the only card in the RTX 50 series planned to use the GB202 GPU. Pricing information and additional specifications are expected to be revealed during the upcoming announcement.

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090 Features 575 W TDP, RTX 5080 Carries 360 W TDP

According to two of the most accurate leakers, kopite7kimi and hongxing2020, NVIDIA's GeForce RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 will feature 575 W and 360 W TDP, respectively. Previously, rumors have pointed out that these GPU SKUs carry 600 W and 400 W TGPs, which translates into total graphics power, meaning that an entire GPU with its RAM and everything else draws a certain amount of power. However, TDP (thermal design power) is a more specific value attributed to the GPU die or the specific SKU in question. According to the latest leaks, 575 Watts are dedicated to the GB202-300-A1 GPU die in the GeForce RTX 5090, while 25 Watts are for GDDR7 memory and other components on the PCB.

For the RTX 5080, the GB203-400-A1 chip is supposedly drawing 360 Watts of power alone, while 40 Watts are set aside for GDDR7 memory and other components in the PC. The lower-end RTX 5080 uses more power than the RTX 5090 because its GDDR7 memory modules reportedly run at 30 Gbps, while the RTX 5090 uses GDDR7 memory modules with 28 Gbps speeds. Indeed, the RTX 5090 uses more modules or higher capacity modules, but the first-generation GDDR7 memory could require more power to reach the 30 Gbps threshold. Hence, more power is set aside for that. In future GDDR7 iterations, more speed could be easily achieved without much more power.

Glimpse of NVIDIA GeForce RTX 50 Series "Blackwell" Founders Edition GPU Appears

NVIDIA uploaded a new video on its GeForce YouTube channel called "GeForce LAN 50 Missions and Rewards" that not only features the objective of its upcoming LAN party but also a teaser of one of the GeForce RTX 50 series "Blackwell" GPUs. Pictured below, NVIDIA purposely left it extremely dark to hide as much information as possible. However, we uncovered what was hiding in the dark PC enclosure thanks to some image processing. From the picture alone, we cannot determine what possible SKU this would represent. Potential candidates include the GeForce RTX 5090 or 5080, which are rumored to appear first at the CES launch event, with NVIDIA's CEO Jensen Huang taking the stage and unveiling details about the new GPU generation.

In regards to the design itself, the GPU features a two-fan configuration, meaning that the founder's edition has undergone a redesign from the traditional push/pull cooler design. If this is only a render, time will tell. However, we look forward to seeing more leaks, details, and hints just like NVIDIA left.

NVIDIA Plans GeForce RTX 5080 "Blackwell" Availability on January 21, Right After CES Announcement

Hong Kong tech media HKEPC report indicates that NVIDIA's GeForce RTX 5080 graphics card will launch on January 21, 2025. The release follows a planned announcement event on January 6, where CEO Jensen Huang will present the new "Blackwell" architecture. Anticipated specifications based on prior rumors point to RTX 5080 using GB203-400-A1 chip, containing 10,752 CUDA cores across 84 SM. The card maintains 16 GB of memory but upgrades to GDDR7 technology running at 30 Gbps, while other cards in the series are expected to use 28 Gbps memory. The graphics card is manufactured using TSMC's 4NP 4 nm node. This improvement in manufacturing technology, combined with architectural changes, accounts for most of the expected performance gains, as the raw CUDA core count only increased by 10% over the RTX 4080. NVIDIA is also introducing larger segmentation between its Blackwell SKUs, as the RTX 5090 has nearly double CUDA cores and double GDDR7 memory capacity.

NVIDIA is organizing a GeForce LAN event two days before the announcement, marking the return of this gathering after 13 years, so the timing is interesting. NVIDIA wants to capture gamer's hearts with 50 hours of non-stop gameplay. Potential RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 Pricing in China Leaks

What we've all been waiting for, might just have appeared and what we're talking about is of course the pricing of NVIDIA's upcoming graphics cards. @wxnod has posted a single screenshot on X/Twitter of what could be the MSRP of the RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 in China. The MSRP of the RTX 4080 was 9,499 RMB and the RTX 5080 appears to be not that much higher, at 9,999 RMB, but this still equates to about US$1,370, although do note that there's 13 percent sales tax/VAT in China.

Now as for the RTX 5090, things won't be as rosy. The RTX 4090 had an MSRP of 12,999 RMB in China and the RTX 5090 comes in at an insane 18,999 RMB or US$2,600. That's a price hike of a not insignificant 46 percent over the RTX 4090 and this might make it the most expensive consumer graphics card ever released. We'd suggest taking these prices with a helping of NaCl just to be on the safe side. The cards are expected to be available some time in January according to the screenshot.

Update 15:34 UTC: A second picture was posted in the same thread on X/Twitter that shows the expected launch months of the lower-tier RTX 5000-series cards as well and it appears to be taken from a video.
