Super Talent Launches TeraDrive CT Series SSDs

Super Talent Technology, a leading manufacturer of Flash storage solutions and DRAM memory modules, today announced immediate availability of the new TeraDrive CT SSD, which uses the SandForce 1222 SSD processor to deliver astounding performance in laptops and desktops.

The new TeraDrive CT has a standard SATA-II 3Gbps interface. It delivers sequential read and write speeds up to 285 and 275 MB/sec respectively. Built-in Garbage Collection and TRIM support ensure sustainable performance over the life of the drive, without degradation.

G.Skill Displays Phoenix Pro Series SSDs

G.Skill displayed its Phoenix Pro series solid state drives (SSDs), while up the transfer rates slightly from its TRIM-supportive predecessor, the Phoenix. Making use of the SandForce SF-1200 processor, the Phoenix Pro features a custom firmware that makes the drive even speedier than most of the SandForce-driven SSDs in the market. Available in 60 GB, 120 GB, and 240 GB variants, the drives feature transfer rates of 285 MB/s (read) and 275 MB/s (write), and 4K writing performance of over 50,000 IOPS. It has the SATA 3 Gb/s interface, and supports the TRIM feature.

OCZ Technology Ready with SandForce Driven RevoDrive PCI-Express SSD

OCZ Technology is ready with a new PCI-Express SSD that harnesses the power of SandForce SSD processors. Called the RevoDrive, the drive's design is based around placing two SF-1200 driven SSDs onto an addon card, connected to a RAID controller, which connects to the system bus over PCI-Express x4. The internal RAID 0 volume can stay abstract to the host. It is expected to be bootable.

The drive makes use of Multi Level Cell (MLC) NAND flash chips, and can churn out transfer rates of 540 MB/s read and 490 MB/s write. It will be available in capacities of 120 GB and 240 GB, which will be priced at around 433€ and 757€, respectively. Although SandForce driven SSDs are popular for their high-performance and TRIM support on Windows 7, when working in RAID, the TRIM feature is said to not work in RAID. This means that the RevoDrive is as good as any two SSDs in RAID 0.

Corsair Launches 60GB, 120GB, and 240GB Force Series Solid-State Drives

New Intel Chipset Drivers Bring TRIM Support for RAID Setups

The TRIM feature introduced by the newest generation of operating systems makes solid state drives more efficient with write performance. However, it does not work when RAID arrays are built with SSDs, until now. The latest version (9.6.0.1014) of Intel Rapid Storage Technology driver enables TRIM for each of the SSDs that are part of a RAID volume, of all RAID types, with the exception for RAID 5. The software can be downloaded from here.

Introduced with Microsoft's Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 R2, and with Linux 2.6.33, TRIM is a feature which uses system idle time to physically erase deleted data, since unlike with magnetic hard drives, data can't be simply overwritten on areas with deleted data. Deleted data must be erased before a NAND flash device can store fresh data in its place, and this causes additional write-cycles on setups without TRIM support. TRIM erases deleted data whenever feasible so that lesser number of write cycles are spent when there's data to be actually written in its place, increasing performance.

G.Skill Shows off SandForce-powered Phoenix Series SSDs

G.Skill showed off its newest line of solid state drives under the Phoenix series, at CeBIT. The SSDs come in capacities of 50 GB, 100 GB, and 200 GB, and in the 2.5" form-factor with SATA 3 Gb/s interface. Its USP is the SandForce SF-1200 SSD controller. With its MLC NAND chips, the controller can churn out transfer speeds of 200 MB/s read, and 141 MB/s write. When used with Windows 7 operating system, the SSDs offer TRIM support, a feature which uses idle time to erase deleted data which could otherwise consume many write cycles, also working towards reducing data fragmentation. The company will release these drives to the market soon.

WD Announces New High Speed Solid State Drives

Corsair Launches Reactor and Nova Series Solid-State Drives

Buffalo Ready with New SHD-NSUH Series SATA SSDs

Buffalo is ready with a new SSD lineup which it plans to release a few models of before 2010. The Buffalo SHD-NSUH series 2.5" SATA/USB SSDs come equipped with multi-level cell (MLC) NAND flash memory, 64 MB of cache memory, and support for Windows 7 TRIM feature. The drives will support SATA 3 Gb/s and USB 2.0 interfaces. In SATA mode, the drives will offer transfer speeds of up to 186.6 MB/s. These drives will be available in four models based on the capacities: 32 GB, 64 GB, 128 GB, and 256 GB, which will be priced at US $253, $369, $637, and $1,161, respectively. Corsair Releases Firmware with TRIM Support for its Performance Series SSDs

Corsair, a worldwide leader in high-performance computer and flash memory products, today announced that it has released firmware with TRIM support and a firmware update tool for its award-winning Performance Series P64, P128 and P256 solid-state drives.
