MSI Shows Off GeForce RTX 4060 Gaming X and Ventus 2X Graphics Cards

MSI at the 2023 Computex showed off its upcoming GeForce RTX 4060 Gaming X graphics card. The RTX 4060 is already announced, which is why the company is putting the cards up for display. The RTX 4060 Gaming X debuts an all new compact generation Gaming X Twin Frozr 9 cooling solution, along with TorX Fan 5.0. The RTX 4060 has a TGP of just 109 W, which makes the cooler look plenty for the job. The RTX 4060 Ventus 2X is the company's cost-effective RTX 4060 custom design, and from the looks of it, the card's cooler uses an aluminium monoblock heatsink that's ventilated by a pair of TorX 4.0 fans. Again, plenty for this TGP class. You also get idle fan-stop.

MSI Radeon RX 5700 XT EVOKE Graphics Card Teased

Ahead of its launch, TechPowerUp scored an exclusive picture of MSI's premium custom-design Radeon RX 5700 XT graphics card, the RX 5700 XT EVOKE. The EVOKE is a completely new card design and brand-extension making its debut with the RX 5700-series. MSI drew some visual cues from the NVIDIA TITAN RTX, as the card features a solid metal cooler shroud holding a pair of 90 mm fans, with a champagne gold finish and diamond-cut edges. The shroud binds seamlessly with the matching metal back-plate. Underneath it, MSI appears to be using a similar aluminium fin-stack heatsink to its Twin Frozr VII cooling solution, which uses four 6 mm-thick copper heat pipes t, and a single fin-stack that spans the entire length of the card.

It's not just the heatsink, even the two fans are similar 90 mm TorX spinners. The card offers idle fan-stop, a must-have especially for this GPU. Interestingly, underneath this custom cooling solution, our sources tell us that MSI is using AMD's reference-design PCB for the RX 5700-series, which draws power from a combination of 8-pin and 6-pin PCIe power connectors. In terms of monitor connectivity, the card has three DisplayPort outputs and one HDMI port. It remains to be seen what factory-overclocked speeds MSI offers for these cards. The card should hit the shelves on August 15, our review sample is already on its way.

Update: MSI distributed one image each to several websites. In addition to ours, we collected four more so far (IgorsLab, Guru3D, TweakTown, WCCFTech).

Update Aug 15th: Our review of the MSI Radeon RX 5700 XT Evoke is live now.

MSI Upcoming RTX 2070 Series Leaks, Twin Frozr is Back

After the launch of the RTX 2080 and RTX 2080 Ti, hardware makers are getting close to the launch of their RTX 2070 graphics cards. MSI will be indeed one of them, and some leaked information in VideoCardz allows us to discover three variants of the RTX 2070 GAMING series. We will have the top of the line GAMING Z, and then the GAMING X and just GAMING 8G models. All of them will feature MSI's popular Twin Frozr 7 cooling solution, but instead of getting a black and red theme these new cards will have a black and silver finish.
The information is in fact available from MSI website, and there we can find also information about all the models available with this GPU. The lowest price one will be GeForce RTX 2070 AERO 8G and could be a good option to those who are looking to water cool their cards in the future. MSI GeForce RTX 2070 ARMOR 8G OC will have two TORX FAN 2.0 (there's also a non-OC version) , while MSI GeForce RTX 2070 DUKE will go a little further with three of those TORX Fans 2.0.

MSI To Launch GTX 1080 Ti Lightning Z, USB Type-C 1080 Ti Gaming X at Computex

MSI is set to make a debut of their top-tier, latest-generation graphics card under the Lightning branding, the GTX 1080 Ti Lightning Z, at this year's Computex. The new Lightning Z makes use of three TorX 2.0 (the same the company uses on its TWIN FROZR VI cooling solutions) fans, though the tripled configuration is set to use the TriFrozr moniker. This generation of the Lightning line of graphics cards sheds its iconic yellow streaks, however, in favor a RGB-capable LED lighting which supports MSI's own Mystic Light. This graphics card also makes use of MSI's Military Class 4 components.

The next MSI graphics card, however, promises to be the most interesting product. Even though MSI's Gaming X lines of graphics cards and Twin Frozr VI coolers are already well-known, those are not the highlights of the 1080 Ti Gaming X the company will be presenting at Computex. Rather, it's its adoption of a USB Type-C connector that's worth talking. This is something that is long overdue, with some monitors already offering this choice of interface, which promises to be the end-all be-all of display protocols, since it can leverage DisplayPort, Thunderbolt and HDMI. Let's see if this move by MSI sets off a trend. We suppose it will, considering how the industry works

Hybrid Frozr is a throwback to 2008 when MSI was the first to market high-end, zero noise graphics cards thanks to fans that stop spinning in low-temperature situations. Additionally, you will find Independent Fan Control on certain models which allows fans to spin independently of one-another based on component temperature below the fans.

MSI Holding Off on GTX 980 Lightning, in Anticipation of Bigger Chip

MSI is reportedly holding off on launching an overclocking-grade GeForce GTX 980 graphics card that you can ride into record-setting competitions, based on its coveted OC Series Lightning brand. The company probably wants to avoid a repeat of last year, when launch of its GeForce GTX 780 Lightning graphics card was closely trailed by NVIDIA's launch of the inherently faster GeForce GTX 780 Ti, and resulting price-cuts for the GTX 780, throwing MSI's inventories in jeopardy. The year before that, MSI launched the Radeon HD 7970 Lightning just weeks before AMD launched the faster HD 7970 GHz Edition.

MSI could stick to selling its Gaming Series GTX 980, equipped with the new Twin Frozr V cooling solution, even offering factory-overclocked variants of the card. This also leads one to wonder if NVIDIA has a third, high-end graphics card based on the GM204 silicon, on the 'cards,' one with higher clock speeds, or a higher temperature-based clock speed throttle, which is currently at a hair-trigger 80°C on the GTX 980.
