Nintendo's Switch 2 2025 Launch Plan Will Not Extend to Central American and Caribbean Markets

Throughout April, Nintendo has navigated choppy waters—not long after the much-anticipated Switch 2 hybrid console's big presentation. Potential customers in the US and Canada experienced an unfortunate delay of pre-order programs—thankfully resolved, as of late last week. The Japanese multinational gaming giant has raised Switch 2 accessory prices—in reaction to "Tariffgate"—but their core next-gen hardware will sell at originally intended levels (hopefully). Despite the company being a global force, a couple of Nintendo's regional distribution networks lack clout. Yesterday, a worrying news report emerged from Costa Rica. Teletica's article outlined a complete absence of Switch 2 and related products across Central American and Caribbean markets. According to insider sources, details were confirmed during: "a private meeting between Nintendo executives and official distributors in the region on Tuesday night (April 29)...The Japanese company announced that there will be no official distribution of consoles, games, or peripherals in these markets throughout 2025." This revelation adds insult to already prominent injuries—even in better-established South American market territories, gamers have voiced concerns about the spotty supply of first-gen Switch products.

8BitDo Introduces New Retro R8 Mouse Model: "NES-inspired" N Edition

Late last November, 8BitDo announced the transparent "classic Xbox-inspired" Retro 87 mechanical keyboard and a matching Retro R8 wireless mouse. The brand tends to borrow visual language from much older hardware—mostly from the 1980s and 1990s—but Microsoft's debut home console effort (in Halo 2 Collector's Edition form) stimulated 8BitDo's design team. As of last week, the manufacturer has opened up pre-orders for another Retro R8 mouse model. The "N Edition" variant will be deployed with identical internals—as seen within its translucent forebear; namely Pixart's PAW 3395 optical sensor and Kailh's Sword GM X micro switches—but it features a familiar off-white/multi-gray tones/red button aesthetic. 8BitDo's product page does not mention Nintendo's Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) by name, but promotional imagery showcases a return to truly retro pastures. The Retro R8 N Edition SKU is also marketed as a "perfect companion" to the brand's first attempt at making a mechanical keyboard: the Retro 87. 8BitDo's official webstore advertises a May 22 launch for their Retro R8 N Edition wireless mouse—the pre-order price is $49.99 (+ shipping fee).

AMD Radeon RX 9070 GRE Gets Early May Launch Date, Official Specifications

AMD has officially announced the AMD Radeon RX 9070 GRE, the China-exclusive high-end RDNA 4 gaming GPU, along with a May 8 pre-order date. As with previous iterations of AMD's GRE GPUs, the RX 9070 GRE is a trimmed-back version of the higher-tier models, with both less VRAM and fewer compute units than its other RDNA 4 counterparts. Along with the official announcement and the May 8 release date, at least one pre-order retail listing has been spotted online, with retail prices coming in at 4499 CNY ($617 converted). The retail unit in question is an ASUS tri-fan card, so it comes in slightly above the claimed 4199 CNY MSRP.

According to the specifications released by AMD, the RX 9070 GRE features 12 GB of GDDR6 on a 192-bit bus with up to 432 GB/s bandwidth. Instead of the 56 compute units found in the Radeon RX 9070, the 9070 GRE has 48 CUs, which should make it a fair bit slower than the 9070 and 9070 XT. However, the GPU boost frequency has been bumped up to 2,790 MHz on the 9070 GRE, from 2,520 MHz on the RX 9070. AMD claims the new GPU is 6% faster than the RX 7900 GRE in "more than 30 games." The RX 9070 GRE also features a standard 2×8-pin power connector, so no need to worry about melting 12VHPWR cables. Much like the other RDNA 4 GPUs, the RX 9070 GRE has launched without a first-party reference design, meaning it may become difficult to find MSRP variants of the 9070 GRE.

The once infamous Devon Butler has his perspective of the sport turned upside down, opening up a spot for Callie's break into F1.

It's unclear when Ghost of Yōtei will expand to PC and other console gaming platforms, but speculation suggests that 2027 is the earliest we will see a cross-platform launch for the Ghost of Tsushima sequel. Previous reports also indicated that there will be a Ghost of Tsushima expanded universe, with possible TV and movie spin-offs on the cards.

EA Sports Dives Deep into F1 25's Revamped My Team & Driver Career Modes

Introducing My Team 2.0: as mentioned as part of our Reveal, My Team is having its biggest overhaul since it was introduced in F1 2020. If you've played My Team in one of our previous F1 games, you'll be familiar with taking on the role of driver/owner, a single character that not only runs the day-to-day activities behind the scenes, but also jumps into the cockpit for the on-track action. For F1 25 however, we're shaking things up, as My Team 2.0 sees you take on a more authentic, management-focused role in that of a team owner.

In addition to handling day-to-day running of the critical facilities that make an F1 team tick such as Engineering, Personnel and Corporate, you'll be responsible for recruiting and managing a pair of drivers to represent your team. Then, during race weekends, you'll be given the choice as to which driver you'd like to take to the track. By managing the competing concerns of two drivers instead of just a single teammate, you'll discover what kind of owner you'd like to be. We believe this refreshed approach allows you to craft a My Team story that's unique to you, unlocking new avenues of decision-making for you to explore.

Nintendo Confirms Delay of Switch 2 Pre-orders in Canada, June 5 Launch Remains Unchanged

Not too long after delivering its in-depth Switch 2 showcase, Nintendo of America and retail partners postponed pre-launch reservations for the forthcoming hybrid gaming console. An official announcement stated: "pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 in the U.S. will not start April 9, 2025 in order to assess the potential impact of tariffs and evolving market conditions. Nintendo will update timing at a later date. The launch date of June 5, 2025 is unchanged." The vast majority of industry watchdogs reckon that company will be assessing an adjustment of launch day product MSRPs. Last week's North American presentation outlined price points of $449.99 and $499.99; for a standard package and a Mario Kart World Pack (respectively). Theorized adjustments could extend to physical copies of games, as well as accessories; e.g. the Switch 2 Pro Controller.

Gamers further north—in the neighboring nation of Canada—were relieved about last week's alert being non-applicable to their market region. Up until yesterday, pre-orders were on track at CA$629.99 (base console) and CA$699.99 (with Mario Kart World). Unfortunately, the House of Mario's Canuck branch has confirmed that recent events have had a knock-on effect for local customers. As disclosed in a statement to MobileSyrup, Nintendo of Canada explained: "pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 in Canada will not start on April 9, 2025 in order to align with the timing of pre-orders to be determined in the U.S....Nintendo will provide updated information at a later date. The launch date of June 5, 2025 is unchanged." MobileSyrup's report was updated yesterday evening; with links to social media bulletins posted by the regional arms of Walmart and GameStop. Both retail outlets repeated Nintendo of Canada's disappointing message.

Nintendo Cancels Switch 2 Pre-orders in the US

According to Gamespot, Nintendo has cancelled pre-orders of the Switch 2 in the US due to the recently announced tariffs by the US government. The company has issued a statement to the publication that reads "Pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 in the U.S. will not start April 9, 2025 in order to assess the potential impact of tariffs and evolving market conditions. Nintendo will update timing at a later date. The launch date of June 5, 2025 is unchanged." This suggests that the Switch 2 will still reach US shores, but the question is if the pricing will remain as announced.

Besides affecting end customers, this is likely to affect all of Nintendo's US retail partners, since retail chains such as Best Buy, Target and Walmart have been preparing to start accepting pre-orders for the new handheld console on the 9th of April. Nintendo's statement doesn't really give away any details, but it suggests that the company is re-evaluating its MSRP, as Japan was hit with a 24 percent tariff by the US. If the tariff was to be handed straight over to the end consumers, this could mean the Switch 2 will retail for closer to US$560 than the promised US$450, which would make it prohibitively expensive for many potential buyers. Hopefully Nintendo will figure out what it'll do quickly and keep its fanbase update with what it'll do in plenty of time ahead of the launch in June.

Acer Radeon RX 9070 XT OC SKU Prices Revealed in UK, Pre-orders Start at £750

Just over two weeks ago, Acer unveiled its brand-new Predator BiFrost and Nitro Radeon RX 9070 Series graphics cards. Despite being a late contributor to AMD's opening salvo of RDNA 4, the Taiwanese manufacturer made a big impression with its reveal of four premium specced models. In particular, Acer's Predator BiFrost Radeon RX 9070 OC 16 GB and Nitro Radeon RX 9070 XT OC 16 GB SKUs will be joining an elite group of custom options that boast 3100 MHz boost clocks. Mid-March press material did not provide any insight into launch pricing—weeks later, Overclockers UK has opened up pre-orders for the four Predator BiFrost and Nitro RX 9070 XT and RX 9070 cards. Just prior to RDNA 4 launch time, Overclockers UK (OcUK) received plenty of press attention—in particular, their building of a sizable cube out of an impressive quantity of Sapphire PULSE Radeon RX 9070 XT retail stock.

The British retailer seemed confident with its pre-kickoff accumulation of various AIB models, but demand quickly outstripped supply on day one. Unfortunately, OcUK has implemented dreaded price hikes across its Radeon RX 9070 Series product listings. Looking at Acer's main competition in the premium custom Radeon RX 9070 XT tier, OcUK has jacked up prices by £20 to £30 (approx.). ASRock's Radeon RX 9070 XT Taichi OC model—one of the elite 3.1 GHz boosters—launched at £700 (including VAT, shipping fee is extra), but was adjusted up to £728.99 (~$943 USD) at some point last month. The British store's pre-order price for the "cheaper" Nitro Radeon RX 9070 XT OC SKU is £749.99 (inc. VAT), while the flagship Predator BiFrost costs £779.99 (inc. VAT) for reservation. GIGABYTE's (almost) £800 AORUS RX 9070 XT ELITE model is the only other 3.1 GHz boost-capable option sitting above the £750 mark. Looking at "on paper" information (e.g. aluminium backplates, state-of-the-art cooling, etc.)—Acer's two headliners are impressive offerings, but rival cards already exist with similar credentials at "lower prices." Historically, TechPowerUp's resident GPU reviewer—W1zzard—has not received any graphics card samples from the manufacturer. Perhaps this drought will end in the near future...

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090 Laptops Launched on Very Last Day of Q1'25, Reports Suggest Limited Availability

NVIDIA and its laptop/notebook manufacturing partners have just about managed a very last minute launch of GeForce RTX 5090 Mobile, RTX 5080 Mobile, RTX 5070 Ti Mobile GPU-powered devices at retail. According to the latest reports, yesterday's—March 31—small trickle out of high-end portable "Blackwell" hardware qualified as a launch within the first quarter of 2025. Due to Team Green's GeForce RTX 50 series being affected by ROPs anomalies—across desktop and mobile platforms—involved firms anticipated deliveries being delayed into April. As stated early last month, unnamed industry sources divulged details about official instructions: "manufacturers (must) inspect already-produced notebooks with new mobile GeForce RTX 5000 graphics chips." Going further back in time, supply chain moles predicted that the entire product stack—starting at the top with GeForce RTX 5090 M, going down to RTX 5070 M—would be subject to postponements.

PC gaming hardware watchdogs noticed a very limited supply of GeForce RTX 5090 Mobile-based laptops on "day one," at least in North America. VideoCardz spent some time combing through Newegg listings, after hearing about the Q1 launch via official social media announcements. The likes of ASUS, GIGABYTE, HP, Lenovo, MSI and Razer opened up direct pre-orders on February 25, but yesterday's embargo lift seemed to extend to general retails outlets. VideoCardz noted that the cheapest—at $4299—GeForce RTX 5090 Laptop options were already sold out. MSI's North American store lists an "out of stock" Titan 18 HX Dragon Edition Norse Myth 18-inch model with an eye-watering price tag of $6199.99. Additionally, the publication pointed out the best GeForce RTX 5080 Laptop starting price: $2499.99. GeForce RTX 5070 Ti Laptops start at $1899.99 on Newegg, but RTX 5070 Mobile-based options seemed to be absent. The online retailer's stock notification system predicts late April or early May replenishments of higher-end stock.

GMKtec EVO-X2 Pre-orders Begin April 7, $2000+ Price Tag Revealed for Ryzen AI "Strix Halo" APU-powered Mini PC

Over the past weekend, GMKtec's Weibo channel announced that pre-orders for its recently unveiled EVO-X2 mini PC model will start on April 7 (through JD.com), for customers located in China. Almost two weeks ago, the manufacturer boasted about its brand-new offering being the "world's first AI mini PC" equipped with AMD's Ryzen AI "Strix Halo" Max+ 395 APU. Extra international attention was gained, due to Lisa Su's autographing of a showcased unit during proceedings at the 2025 AI PC Innovation Summit (held on March 18, in Beijing). Pricing and availability were not mentioned during this press event, but GMKtec's Saturday (March 29) bulletin has revealed a (roughly) $2067 USD price point for the EVO-X2 launch model.

The manufacturer's blog entry stated that the: "EVO-X2 AI supercomputing host is coming, 128 GB + 2 TB priced at 14999 yuan, pricing reconstructs the desktop computing power boundary! Equipped with AMD Ryzen AI Max+ 395 flagship processor, 16-core 32-thread architecture with 5.1 GHz acceleration frequency, combined with 128 GB LPDDR5X memory and 2 TB high-speed storage, it can realize local deployment of 70 billion parameter large models, and AI performance exceeds NVIDIA's GeForce RTX 5090D graphics card." This potent compact AI-crunching solution is tempered by GMKtec's "innovative" Arctic Ocean cooling system. They advertise this design as using: "dual-turbofans and VC heat sinks to achieve silent heat dissipation at a peak power consumption of 140 W. The body adopts a recycled aluminium suspension design, equipped with HDMI, DP and USB4 interfaces, and supports Wi-Fi 6 + 2.5G network access." The brand has not yet announced an international release, but their EVO-X2 mini PC could face serious competition. Late last month, Framework debuted its Desktop product range—consisting of configurable 4.5L Mini-ITX systems—with a top-end Ryzen AI Max+ 395 (128 GB) model starting at $1999.

With this new collection, players can relive the challenge of GRADIUS while paying homage to the origins of one of gaming's most famous secrets.
