1MORE's Triple Driver Over-Ear proves that 1MORE is a serious contender in the midrange headphone market across form factors. The Triple Driver Over-Ear sounds great and looks the part. Since 1MORE chose the over-ear form factor, the Triple Driver Over-Ear is well-suited for both use at home and on the go. Noise attenuation is pretty good for a set of headphones that seal against the ear; no one will be able to hear what you are listening too, and they do manage to keep out a fair bit of unwanted noise. As a set of over-ears for commuting, these definitely fit the bill for me as a good compromise between size, sound quality, and durability. The cable is one of the more durable ones we have come across and user replaceable, which is a huge plus.
Category-wise, 1MORE calls this pair of headphones over-ear, but the Triple Driver Over-Ear could be called a big on-ear; one thing it is not is an around-ear. It seems there is much confusion as even bigger brands beyond 1MORE have a lot of inconsistencies in their naming.
Sound-quality-wise, the Triple Driver Over-Ear does well across the board. The tuning of the headphones is done in a way that makes most material sound interesting, irrelevant of the mastering quality. This does, however, come at a cost. The top end is a little hot, which can be a little fatiguing on masterings intended for flatter-sounding headphones. Bass is also pushed forward in the mix, but not overly so. The Triple Driver Over-Ear sounds great considering it is a closed-back portable-ish design. The only way to get better sound quality in this price range is to skip on to open-back headphones, which are perhaps more limited in their use.
1MORE's design choices for the Triple Driver Over-Ear are probably divisive. Personally, I think the slightly hard-looking design is pretty good, but for more conservative people, it might be a bit over the top. The important bits are designed well, and the Triple Driver Over-Ear is quite comfortable despite being closed back.
