A Closer Look - Outside
The Aerocool GT-S Black Edition is quite the large chassis. While its overall design does seem to be inspired by a sports car, there are a lot of plastic elements. There is also plenty of metal mesh present in the front, though I would have liked to see some sort of metal-looking finish on the rest—even if it were just plastic made to look like metal.
A few spots within the case are red, when viewed from the outside. The spring-loaded front covers and those in the rear utilize red plastic parts. A large window on the main side panel also reveals a red interior to go with the rest of the chassis. While this combination does look great, some may wonder why Aerocool then decided to dub this case "Black Edition". Their nomenclature is simply due to the fact that this chassis is available in black (and red) or white (and blue). Lastly, the other side panel is completely solid and does not feature any design elements at all.
Taking a closer look at the front, the bottom half holds a metal mesh grill with the GT-S and small Aerocool logo. Four embedded red LEDs in the front will also light up when the system is turned on. The top half is filled with five 5.25" expansion slots. Each individual cover can easily be removed by squeezing the red parts together.
Turning our focus to the rear of the GT-S Black Edition, the bottom holds the PSU bay. It comes with two sets of mounting holes, giving you the flexibility of installing the power supply with the fan facing up or down. Above that are the ten motherboard-expansion slot, which allows the chassis to easily swallow a full XL-ATX motherboard. You will find a 140 mm exhaust fan with red blades in the very top, and four rubberized openings there allow you to route water-cooling tubes out the back of the chassis.
The I/O of the GT-S Black Edition can be found in the top panel of the chassis. It consists of two USB 2.0 and two USB 3.0 plugs, and the traditional pair of audio I/O. Aerocool has also included a fan controller in the left edge of the top. The large power and reset buttons can be found on the opposite side. While these are great, I am worried about someone pressing the reset button by mistake while the PC is up and running, as it is quite big.
Most of the top panel is taken up by an air vent which, while adding to the overall look of the case, seems a bit restrictive in terms of air flow.
Tipping the GT-S Black Edition on its side, there is a removable dust filter for the PSU bay, which can simply be pulled out the back of the chassis for cleaning. The fan mount on the floor of the chassis also comes with a dust filter, but this one is installed within the interior of the chassis.
