The Package

Since the AIAIAI TMA-2 headphones are shipped as a collection of four custom-picked parts, the box is by no means ordinary. On the front, you'll find the company logo and four lines of text which spell out "TMA-2 Modular Headphone System". The rear of the box explains the modular concept in greater detail.

Inside, you'll find four bags containing your chosen headband, ear cushions, speaker drivers, and cable. Everything is clearly labeled and neatly organized, making it easy to start the assembly process.

Assembly

First, take out the headband. The headband has a plug on each side. This is where you'll connect the speaker drivers.

Next, unpack the speaker drivers and attach one to either end of the headband by firmly connecting them to the plugs until you hear a distinctive "click". You don't have to worry about which speaker driver attaches to which side, or the possibility of turning them upside down because the speaker drivers are perfectly round and have 3.5-mm ports on both sides.

It's time to put on the ear cushions. This is yet another simple task—the cushions have four plastic pins, which have to be aligned with the holes on the speaker drivers. The cushions also have two cutouts for 3.5-mm ports, making them impossible to orient incorrectly.

The last step of this simple process is to connect the cable. The AIAIAI TMA-2 lets you connect it to whichever side you find more convenient.

Congratulations, you've just assembled your first pair of headphones! If you didn't make any mistakes when connecting the cables, you should hear whatever you play back as soon as you plug them into a sound source.
