A Look Inside

The OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) of the AX600-88FE is Fortron Sparkle (FSP).

The first stage of transient (EMI) filtering starts at the AC receptacle with 1X and 2Y capacitors. The second stage is on the main PCB (Printed Circuit Board) and consists of three coils, 2X and 2Y caps. Unfortunately there is no MOV (Metal Oxide Varistor), a component that protects the PSU from spikes coming from the power grid. FSP has the bad habit to often omit MOVs from their designs.

There are three (!) rectifying bridges (GBU1006) which are not attached to any heatsink. Moving forward to the Active PFC (APFC) we find two MOSFETs and the boost diode. The main capacitor (470 µF, 420V) is provided from Matsushita (Panasonic) and is rated up to 105°C. The main switchers use the double forward topology. As PFC/PWM controller the omni present Champion CM6802 is used.

In the secondary stage we have group regulation. So there are only two coils, one for +12V/5V and one for 3.3V. For the generation of +12V output there are four 40S45CT SBRs (Schottky Barrier Rectifiers). For 5V we have a pair of SBR30S30CT and for 3.3V a pair of SBR30U30CT. The secondary is populated mainly by Teapo electrolytic caps (labeled at 105°C) and we also found a lonely CapXon cap. The protections are handled by a PS223 IC (Integrated Circuit).

Soldering quality on the main PCB is average and in some areas even below that.

The fan (PLA12025B12M-2) is provided by Power Logic and it's a simple two ball bearing one and not an FDP (Fluid Dynamic Bearing) as Amacrox states.
