Download Assistant & Center

Installing the Download Assistant application on a client PC will allow you to interact with Download Center through any Windows or Mac system. Download Center also gives users the ability to pick the content they want to download from a torrent before a download starts. This application also includes a customizable download schedule, the Smart Download function, which allows users to automatically add download tasks for torrents placed into the Smart Download folder. We should stress that you must have Download Center installed on the NAS for Download Assistant to work.


Download Center allows the NAS instead of a computer to handle download jobs. It supports torrent searches and HTTP, FTP, and BitTorrent downloads, and automated downloads through RSS feeds.

Surveillance Center

Surveillance Center is Asustor's surveillance solution. Asustor is currently the only company providing four free camera channels out of the box, as all other companies only provide users with one free license. Surveillance Center features a web-based interface you can use to manage multiple IP cameras. It supports recording via a schedule, motion, or alarm triggers and has a notification system that alerts user(s) of various events.


Surveillance Center currently supports over 100 different camera types. According to Asustor, and we have to take their word for it since we don't have any IP cameras, a user can easily install a new camera in under thirty seconds. The intuitive interface allows users to view and record from up to four live feeds at once, playing back previously recorded material and taking snapshots while controlling pan, tilt, and zoom.

UPnP Media Server

This application transforms your NAS into a multimedia streaming server. Combine it with UPnP- or DLNA-compatible devices to browse and stream multimedia content stored on the NAS. This is a really interesting feature since most TVs now-a-days support DLNA.

iTunes Server

iTunes Server allows users to stream media content on their NAS or any iTunes client on their network. This application also supports AirPlay and iOS Remote paring.

FTP Explorer

A NAS server is expected to have an FTP server application, but the FTP client application is rather uncommon on a NAS. One available application in APP Central is FTP Explorer which, according to Asustor, is the first FTP client in the world designed exclusively for use on a NAS. This application allows users to connect and browse any FTP site from within the ADM UI, offering a nice file-management interface for drag-and-drop file transfers, with full resume functionality. Administrators/users can also use the FTP site-management function to store and manage information on all their favorite FTP sites.

SoundsGood

At the time of review, SoundsGood was still in beta, so you will only find it in the Beta Applications directory. App Central's search function didn't return any hits, so it actually doesn't search through its beta applications, but there are so very few of them that it won't matter much.
