Administration Settings

Once you have finished the quick start guide, you can take a look at its administration settings, and they include a couple pretty interesting options. We are going to mention all of them in the following paragraphs.


The general settings allow you to change the default HTTP/HTTPS ports, set the language of the ADM, and configure an auto log-out timer.


Among the most important settings are the network ones. Here, you can set the server name to identify the NAS to the network, the default gateway, the IPs of each LAN port, create a link aggregation interface, and finally, if you have attached the optional Wi-Fi dongle to the NAS, set its properties through the corresponding tab.


Date, time, and time zone settings can be set here.


The hardware option has many interesting things to configure, like the front LED indicators, which can be turned off completely and the ability to adjust their brightness. You can also enable/disable the system buzzer for various events, disable the reset button on the back of the NAS, set the disk hibernation time, enable EuP mode, set the fan speed, and write a personalized text message to be displayed on its LCD screen. We also found the fact that the local temperature can be displayed on the LCD screen very interesting. The LCD screen of the NAS may be of no interest to the administrator/ its users in a business environment, but it is, nonetheless, nice to have all these options available.


This NAS can, like all advanced NAS servers, send various notifications to the administrator through different means to report its state or of important events.


The ADM includes a firewall and a network defender application, which can effectively protect the NAS from network attacks.


The ADM has a live update feature you should enable if you want to be informed of new updates.


You can enable the network recycle bin for extra protection against accidental data loss.


Many energy saving options can be found here. The Wake-On-Lan (WOL) feature can't be enabled if you have the EuP option enabled.


All advanced network features of the NAS can be set through this option. With an Asustor ID, you can easily access the NAS from everywhere, while the EZ-router setup helps you in setting your router up to allow access to the NAS from other networks. You must have an UPnP compatible router for this feature to work properly. Finally, the DDNS option informs you once the WAN IP of the router, through which you can access the NAS from a remote location, has been changed, and it will, of course, provides you the new WAN IP after a change has been made.


This option should be used carefully since it defaults the NAS and because all of the stored data on its installed disks and your settings will be lost after system initialization.


You must obtain an Asustor ID - they are free - in order to access some of the NAS server's advanced features, like cloud connect or its application download services.

Additional ADM Features

Now that we have explained all crucial administrative settings, let's take a look at other interesting features of the ADM operating system.


The system information application provides useful information about the NAS's hardware and the network it belongs to. It also dsiplays information about online users and provides a useful log feature.

The Dr. Asustor app scans the NAS for possible problems and suggests appropriate solutions.


The activity monitor shows the utilization levels of the NAS's CPU cores, memory, and network ports. It also provides the usage level of all disks and lists all running processes. We should add that CPU and RAM utilization remained at low levels throughout heavy data transfers, which shows that the installed memory and the dual core ATOM processor (four cores with hyper-threading) easily cope with any task.
