Overclocking

In 2D mode the Radeon X1900 XT 256 MB will run at 500 MHz core and 600 MHz memory, with reduced voltages. Once you start a full-screen 3D application, the nominal clocks of 621 MHz / 720 MHz are set. At the same time the 3D voltages are set which are 1.425V VGPU, 1.840 V MVDDC & MVDDQ and 1.486 V VDDCI.

We used ATITool to manually find the maximum core and memory clocks of our cards. Please not that the "Find Max" feature of ATITool does not work, because when setting clocks with ATITool, all X1000 series crash when the clocks are changed under 3D load.

A maximum overclock of 675 MHz (8.6%) on the GPU and 774 MHz (7.5%) on the memory is nothing spectacular. It's still nice to get free performance.

You can also see in the screenshot that the GPU temperature is at 90°C when overclocked. This is definitely below the maximum operating temperature of 120°C, but the fan is running quite fast to get rid of the heat. An aftermarket cooler is a good investment if you are looking into overclocking.
