The be quiet! Light Base 900 DX is probably the first case series that really manages to set itself apart from the sea of traditional enclosures out there. That is not to say that their existing case line-up falls short - they tend to be good enclosures as well. But, it is clear that be quiet! is boldly trying to carve out a bit more of a product identity with the Light Base line. Clocking in at $190 for the white and $180 for the black variant, we feel the price is justified. While not a steal, it also doesn't feel wrong either.

That said, other DX variants from be quiet!, like the Shadow Base 800 DX and the Pure Base 500 DX, do come with fans so it is a bit of a departure that this DX variant doesn't include any. It would have been welcome to have one color matched, non-RGB in the rear at the very least, and while we don't put too much weight into it, would have also helped without out of the box thermals. Especially as the top / bottom panels focus on design vs. airflow.

The fact that you can set the system up in three different ways and each of them feeling as if the case was made for it without any compromises is quite the USP, but you do have to be careful not to twist those feet the wrong way. The clear visual highlight of the be quiet! Light Base 900 DX is the massive 172 LED ARGB strip that wraps the three sides beautifully. It is actually quite cool to see four LED strips bouncing seamlessly around the corners of the case thanks to the short, white interconnect cables. This visual component really does put a bit more focus on putting the case down on its side.

The interior of the be quiet! Light Base 900 DX is mostly well-designed and engineered. The focus on all white, from the grommets to the wiring and even white PCBs are very nice details. On top of that, being able to rotate the expansion slots could be a fun way to show off your GPU when the case its on its side. be quiet! also manages to provide a good mix of zip tie hooks and Velcro strips for very good cable management, where the only weak point is in the area above the PSU. be quiet! could really have added two simple, color-matched grommets here as well.

Visually speaking the biggest issues are small details. From the lack of zip tie hooks on the cooling mounting brackets to the lack of those grommets or at least an opening to cable manage wires from ceiling mounted cooling and the unique looking grommets with large flaps. Functionally, everything works well, but it would have been nice to have that second 3.5" drive out-of-the-box, as a single storage bay feels inadequate for a case of this size.

In the end, we can absolutely recommend the be quiet! Light Base 900 DX. It provides plenty of unique aspects, looks gorgeous when turned on and manages to impress with its three layout possibilities that all feel equally useful.
