Efficiency

Using the results we gathered so far, we plotted a chart showing the PSU's efficiency at low loads and loads from 10 to 110 percent of its maximum-rated capacity.




Efficiency at very light loads, two percent, is low, and the same goes for efficiency at light loads, which range from 20 to 80 W. In the 40–100 W range, things are better, and performance is about the same in the 20%–100% load range.

10%–110% Load Testing

These tests reveal the PSU's load regulation and efficiency levels under high ambient temperatures. They also show how the fan-speed profile behaves under tough operating conditions.

I would like to see higher PF readings, especially since the APFC converter is controlled by a digital circuit.

Light Load Testing

In the following tests, we measure the PSU's efficiency at loads significantly lower than ten percent of its maximum capacity (the lowest load the 80 PLUS standard measures). This is important for representing when a PC is idle with its power-saving features turned on.

The power supply operates in passive mode at light loads if semi-passive mode is enabled.

Ultra-light Load Testing

The applied load in this test is only 10 W for PSUs with 500 W or lower capacity. For stronger PSUs, we dial in 2% of the maximum-rated-capacity. We only run this test with 115 V input.

This platform is not optimized for high efficiency at light loads. However, as it uses digital controllers, this issue might be easy to fix.

Vampire power is low, which helps the 5VSB rail's efficiency at such incredibly light loads.
