A Closer Look

The Colorful iGame DDR4 3200 8 GB has a pretty basic overall shape with a largely rectangular heat spreader. The complex lines of the stick are created through a combination of stamped details and a precise paint job.

The Colorful iGame DDR4 3200 8 GB is mostly black and has bright red accents along its top edge, within the stamped grooves on the top left and two horizontal stampings on the right. The center of the stick is dominated by a white "iGame" with an iGame logo, and the red paint is applied cleanly and precisely, lending the Colorful iGame DDR4 3200 8 GB an automotive vibe.

The back of the Colorful iGame DDR4 3200 8 GB is identical except for the "iGame" in the center not having a logo, and of course, the spec sticker in the bottom left. Here, too, timing and voltage information is absent. While only a small gripe for OEMs or consumers who purchase online as they will have easy access to the information, it could be a critical omission for those who find this kit on a store shelf.

The specs on the Colorful iGame DDR4 3200 8 GB are solid, if not extreme. 3200 MHz CAS 16 is a pretty good middle ground for price/performance right now as going with higher frequency or tighter timings nets continuously diminishing returns in most applications from this point onward.

"iGame" is printed on each side of the stick, with the front also including the stylized iGame logo. Additionally, "iGame" is printed across the top center of the RGB light bar.

The heat spreader is a standard aluminium stamping held to the PCB with adhesive. As you would expect, these are single-sided. There is some separation of the thermal pad from the memory IC on the far right. At first, I thought this was due to a warp in the heat spreader, but it is in fact due to the stamping on that section of the heat spreader. The concave stamp impression pulls the thermal pad away from the IC.

This is of little consequence as it had no impact on stability in either of the sticks I tested. It would only become a risk when pushing extreme voltages through the kit, which is somewhat outside the intended use case of the Colorful iGame DDR4 3200 8 GB. However, even though largely cosmetic, it is still a flaw I would like to see Colorful avoid in future products.

The full PCB marking is obscured by the heat spreader, and only the first few characters can be made out. The only other marking is a tiny "8" along the opposite edge, implying an 8-layer PCB.

As always, though it has proven to have no correlation to performance, I like to weigh each stick I get. The Colorful iGame DDR4 3200 8 GB comes in at just shy of 51 grams, which is on the lighter side of what I have seen. On my calipers, the kit comes in at almost 49 mm, which is in line with most other kits.
