Value and Conclusion

  • Great looks with a few very nice details
  • Solid materials and well constructed
  • Plenty of space
  • Pushes lots of air - 2x 200 mm
  • Top fan may be replaced by 120 mm units - great for radiators
  • Screw-less system for optical drives
  • Simple but well constructed hard drive trays
  • Front covers can easily be removed
  • Great cable routing possibilites
  • Thumb screws for mainboard expansion slots
  • Extra expansion slot for further expandability
  • Side window can hold two 120 mm fans or one large 200 mm one
  • Great packaging
  • Fairly heavy
  • Fans are quite loud
  • Plenty of openings means that the noise of internal parts may be a problem
The Cooler Master HAF 922 is not only smaller and thus more portable than the bigger 932, but it also improves things on many fronts. The case has the same, great and detailed exterior design and even manages to change some of the slightly boring aspects to the better. The interior of the case also leaves a more refined impression. Cooler Master has kept the front area similar, with easy to remove front drive bay covers, the push locking system and the simple but effective hard drive trays. The rear however has definitive improvements with a more elaborate PSU bay, solid and simple thumb screws instead of a flimsy plastic locking mechanism and brighter LEDs in the front fan.
On the downside, a few aspects were still not addressed. It would have been great to see some sort of fan controller to keep the noise of the large cooling fans to a minimum and maybe some sort of thin Plexiglas cover on the side to reduce the dust buildup and overall sound stage some more. Nonetheless, if you must ask: Yes the HAF 922 is a definite improvement over the HAF 932 and thus deserves the Editor's Choice Award.
