Value and Conclusion

  • The Cooler Master TD500 Mesh has an MSRP of US$100 excl. taxes.
  • Beautiful "sliced" glass side panel
  • Well-designed front for a cohesive overall look and feel
  • Three fans included in the front
  • Simple RGB controller included
  • Three 120 mm fans included
  • Can hold all the usual components of a potent mainstream rig
  • Clean interior because of well-placed openings and grommets
  • Great zip-tie hooks make for clean cable routing behind the scenes
  • Tool-less 3.5" drive installation
  • Can hold 360 radiators in the front and top
  • Magnetic dust filter in the top
  • Available in black or white
  • Not enough mounting hardware to take advantage of all four 2.5" spots
  • Underside dust filter not easily removable
  • Pretty loud under load
  • RGB control with supplied hardware a bit weird
  • Glass side panel has visible mounting screws
The Cooler Master Masterbox TD500 Mesh does not set out to reinvent the wheel when it comes to function. Squarely aimed at the magic $100 mark, it aims to offer good airflow with the full metal front and three pre-installed fans with built-in RGB elements in their hubs. You will get a controller to drive that so long as you make sure to buy the right variant as Cooler Master also offers the TD500 Mesh without that additional piece of hardware. The same mentality applies to the inside. It is simple but really functional, resulting in a really clean build both visibly and behind the motherboard tray. The Masterbox TD500 Mesh can also hold four hard drives, which is enough for the vast majority of users, but I can't get over the fact that a little extra mounting hardware would have organically expanded that to a respectable six.

That said, the three fans in the front don't make for a quiet system, but result in great temperatures under load. However, thanks to the included 3-pin splitter cable, you can easily adjust that curve in your BIOS to find that perfect setup for your specific hardware. The other main driving point is looks. Cooler Master managed to design a really appealing mass-market chassis by combining the mesh front, it on its own not being something new, with their sliced glass panel, which is pretty unique.
