Before I start, I am a sucker for TKL, 60% and even 40% keyboards. I have many of each and like to make my own also, so I am always excited to get off-the-shelf products like these through the post. The Cooler Master MasterKeys Pro S RGB is an excellent example of a TKL keyboard. It has all the functions you would expect as well as some you don't usually get. This does come at a price, however; $140 is a lot of money. However, it is always worth noting that the price of a TKL keyboard is always going to be similar to that of a fully sized board as you are essentially paying for the same components with the only real difference being the size of the PCB and fewer switches. The other components stay very much the same.
The keyboard's build quality is as good as I have come to expect from Cooler Master - I have used the Rapid-I and NovaTouch and both surprised me with their quality also. There is no flex or cheap feel to either of those boards, and the MasterKeys follows suit. Its simple design is appealing, especially when combined with the very bright LEDs of the Cherry MX switches. The keycaps are of good quality, and the font used is very clear and easy to read. Due to the standard Cherry cross-shaped stem, the keycaps can be swapped easily also. It is nice that the cable is micro USB as this means that you can switch it out for a different color to match your theme or get a shorter or longer one depending on your situation. It is a little annoying that the cable that is included has a right-angled plug, though, as it can make it a little tricky to get cable management down correctly.
Using the keyboard was a pleasure, but recording macros was somewhat tricky - not being able to see what you are typing in via the software is also somewhat annoying. With the keyboard market being such a lucrative product category and with multiple strong competitors around, I would have expected a comprehensive software suite to compliment what is essentially a very good keyboard. If the software included were more substantial, I would have given this keyboard our Editor's Choice award for certain.
Ok, it is a little expensive, but the quality is superb, its on-the-fly options are great, the colors are vivid, and the lighting options are plentiful. It also takes far less room on your desk than a standard-sized keyboard and is small enough to fit into a laptop bag without causing any issues. If you are on the market for a TKL board that can do pretty much anything you want on the fly, I certainly do recommend it. I will be holding on to this one for my portable keyboard collection, that much is for certain.
