Cooler Master Sentinel III Review

Value & Conclusion

  • The Cooler Master Sentinel III sells for $59.99.
  • Great right-handed palm-grip ergonomics
  • OLED screen that provides information and some functionality without needing the driver
  • Acceleration-free optical sensor
  • In-depth sensor options
  • Good button positioning
  • Heavy for a wired mouse
  • Badly accessible weight compartment
  • RGB lighting is not very visible when using the mouse
  • Glossy plastic surface attracts finger prints and scratches
The Sentinel III is a solid mouse. Its main buttons are light and responsive, and the others are a mixed match, but none are really bad. Cooler Master has completely tuned the Sentinel III for a right-handed palm grip. As a result, it is very comfortable when palm-gripped, but awkward to claw, and it is obviously not for left-handed people. It's a little heavy than I'd like, but the adjustable weight system does not completely upset its balance and feels like those on other mice.

I wish the mouse wheel would glow significantly brighter, and the LEDs used in the rear should run cooler. Right now, their heat output is noticeable during prolonged gaming session. The AVAGO SDNS sensor offers reliable, acceleration-free tracking on almost all matte surfaces. Cooler Master's software provides a large number of sensor-tuning options, more than you can find on most other manufacturers.

There are other mice at the same price point as the Sentinel III that offer the same sensor, same button configuration, and RGB lighting. So in the end, what sets the Cooler Master Sentinel III apart is its shape, size, software, and OLED screen on top.
