Packaging

Cougar ships the MX500 in a plain brown cardboard box with an image of the chassis itself in gray print on the front and a detailed description of its features on the back. Both side panels cover the specifications and come with another view of the case. Two carrying holes there also help in lugging the chassis around.


Two fairly solid Styrofoam spacers hold the chassis in place and protect it from falling damage, while a plastic bag has been applied to keep scratches and fingerprints away.

You will receive a manual, some rubber grommets, and a bag of all-black screws. There are three 2.5'' hard-drive trays and a fan filter. The filter has, interestingly enough, not been applied to cover its appropriately sized opening in the side panel straight out of the box, but we will figure the reason to that out soon enough.
