SXFI App

The SXFI App is used to configure and update the Creative SXFI Trio in-ear headphones. You have to install it if you plan to use the Super X-Fi headphone holography technology because the app is actually essential in configuring it. The general idea behind this technology is to create the feeling of being surrounded by speakers. You have to use the app to create a map of your head—scan both ears, as well as your face.

You'll need a friend or a family member to help you with this step of the process. After head-mapping is done, Creative creates your personal "audio map" and applies it to the headphones. I'll get to the acoustic characteristics of the Super X-Fi technology on the next page of this review.

The SXFI App also has some other useful features. You can use it to upgrade the firmware, play audio files stored on your smartphone, or play around in a 10-band equalizer in order to alter the acoustic characteristics of the headphones. There are two sliders, Bass and Treble, for a quick adjustment of the low and high frequencies (± 9 dB). There is also the possibility of "drawing" the frequency curve in order to fine-tune the desired parts of the frequency spectrum. Creative also offers several factory sound profiles: Cinema, Classical, Flat, Game, and Pop. I suggest sticking with the Flat profile and potentially only thickening the bass a bit (I wouldn't go over +2 dB).
