A Closer Look
The Crucial Ballistix Gaming Memory sticks feature a stamped heat spreader that maintains a minimalist profile without sacrificing any detail.
My Crucial Ballistix Gaming Memory sample has a deep black powder-coated aluminium heatsink; the kit is also available in white and red.
"Ballistix" is printed in white on the side of each stick. The specification sticker sits in the center of one side, and "Crucial by Micron" on the other. The top of each stick also has "Ballistix" printed in white.
The specifications on the Crucial Ballistix Gaming Memory are a 3200 MHz XMP profile at 16-18-18-36 and 1.35 V, which is decent and achievable on almost any system.
Naturally, this spec of Crucial Ballistix Gaming Memory stick is double-sided.
Crucial is, unsurprisingly, using Micron ICs. Specifically, this spec of the Crucial Ballistix Gaming Memory uses Micron E-die, which should be good for overclocking.
I like to weigh a stick from each kit I get as the difference in mass can be pretty drastic between kits. Mass is not the best indicator of cooling efficiency because material can matter, and of course, heat dissipation is reliant on surface area, not volume or mass. That said, it is still interesting to compare.
The Crucial Ballistix Gaming Memory comes in at 37.83 g on my scale. For height, the Crucial Ballistix Gaming Memory comes in at just over 39.25 mm with my calipers, nicely below the average 45–50 mm range.
