Value and Conclusion

  • The Foxconn Netbox costs €169.90 in the Caseking shop and is also available in white. Add another €40 for 2 GB memory and €40 more for a modern 2.5 inch SATA II drive and you can expect to pay around 249.90 EUR for a complete system. Foxconn also offers a matching external DVD drive for 59.90 EUR and a remote control for 24.90 EUR.
  • Intel Atom 330 processor
  • Separate standby button
  • Plenty of USB connectivity
  • Internal fan adequately quiet - better than any Xbox 360 or Playstation 3 any way you look at it.
  • Great mix of connectivity
  • VESA mountable
  • Card reader
  • Easy assembly
  • Good customization options
  • Fitting USB optical drive and remote control available
  • Available in black or white
  • Can get rather noisy under load
  • No pre-installed OS option and lack of ODD may make the inital setup a bit of a pain
  • Fingerprint magnet
  • No way to secure it so it cannot be stolen
The Foxconn NT-330I Netbox is an impressive device, as it combines a very small foot print, extremely compact dimensions and a long list of useful features. Because this is an OEM device, intended for resellers to fill with memory and storage to create a line-up, the unit comes as a barebone out of the box. While this is usually a bad thing, as the base price of such a bare system is usually much higher than going for the full package, this is not the case with the Foxconn Netbox. If you were to fill the unit with 2 GB of memory and a 250 GB hard drive, you will end up investing a very reasonable 250 Euros. On top of that, one is able to enjoy all the benefits of the NVIDIA ION platform: the low power consumption, full HD capability and the usually silent operation. Foxconn has even gone further and included small, functional tidbits like the separate standby button. Being an OEM product you have the full choice to buy what fits your needs. If you need an optical drive for your DVD collection - there is one for the Nebox. Want to sit on the couch and use a remote control? there is one available as well. Sure, it would have been great to have the remote included as part of the package from the start but that would have just limited the possible uses of the Netbox as resellers would not want to pay the price premium if they wanted to push the compact unit as an office computer for example.
So, the Foxconn NT-330I Netbox scores big with taking the very capable Intel Atom + NVIDIA ION platform, allowing you to customize the storage and memory options without having to pay a price premium and manages to stuff it all in a very sleek, extremely compact and sexy package - what's not to love!
